  Chart Check: Rihanna Rises With Pour It Up

As far as singles go, very few can say they get better treatment than those belonging to ‘Thug In My Life‘ singer Rihanna.

Indeed, as her track record on Billboard’s Hot 100 can vouch for, her ability to pick a cut, record it and then force feed it to the masses has ensured favorable chart positions for even her lesser known material in recent years. A testament to the strength of her installed audience.

Now find out why her hold over the casual listener has her new single, ‘Pour It Up‘, rising on the ‘Hot 100′ below…

Without a supporting music video or a single televised performance, ‘Up‘ backflipped 20 spots up the chart in a single week and now holds the #76 spot, just two weeks after becoming available for purchase.

Meanwhile, on a digital tip, the club anthem resides at #51 on iTunes USA and if succeeds in ascending on the charts next week as much as it did this week, is the only Urban jam likely to snatch the R&B/Hip Hop songs top spot from its predecessor, ‘Diamonds‘.

Fans can look forward to a visual for the song in the coming weeks, likely to coincide with Riri’s forthcoming Grammy 2013 stint where she is reportedly planning to perform the UK Top 5 hit ‘Stay‘. All this, before she kicks off her ‘Diamonds World Tour’ at Buffalo’s First Niagara Center on March 8th.

    I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!

    I’m staying in Miami at the moment and yesterday I went to this club called ‘Spritzer’ and DAMN – I felt to knock the D.J the fuck out because of the number of times her BLASTED this tune. LMAO.

    But it’s all good, still LOVE it though.

We’ve heard no fresh material from the likes of Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Katy Perry, and the only new full-length albums our divas have presented us with have been from P!nk and Christina Aguilera, both of whom might want to start considering retirement.

Our “Good Girl Gone Bad” Rihanna has just released Unapologetic, her seventh full-length album in seven years, and it’s sure to have you saying, “Where have you been all my life?” Even Rihanna bashers are likely to concede, “I hate that I love you so.” In fact, after you listen to this album, you will probably find love in a hopeless place, where you’ll request that Unapologetic is put “Pon de Replay,” as if Rihanna were the “Only Girl (In The World)” making music.

        Switching gears back to Rihanna, we don’t want our puniness to mislead you. Unapologetic isn’t RiRi’s best album yet, as it’s hard to compete with feats such as 2007′s Good Girl Gone Bad and 2010′s Loud. That being said, the album does put its recent competition to utter shame.

        Coming from the gal who says “Sticks and stones may break my bones / But chains and whips excite me,” you shouldn’t be surprised that Unapologetic‘s strongest song is also its most controversial. “Nobody’s Business” which features none other than the most hated man in recent history, Chris Brown is an upbeat, Jackson 5-esque duet. It’s a declaration of mutual devotion “you’ll always be my baby” as well as a plea to leave the two alone. Regardless of your feelings on their recent rekindling, “Nobody’s Business” is an undeniable hit.

        Other strong songs off Unapologetic include “Jump,” a sexy party anthem that borrows its chorus from Ginuwine’s “Pony” and actually does it justice, as well as “Numb,” another jam for a night out, which features Eminem in their first collaboration since “Love the Way You Lie.” Also, though ballads have never been Rihanna’s strengths, Unapologetic does have a couple of solid ones. The album’s first single “Diamonds,” which Rihanna recently performed on SNL, is a beautifully melancholy song (arguably about an upper-induced escape from reality), for instance.

        Now let’s examine Rihanna’s recent competition. “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” is P!nk’s strongest song off fall’s The Truth About Love, and its screechy chorus makes it almost unbearable to listen to. Similarly, Christina Aguilera’s “Your Body,” off of the recent Lotus, might seem fun at first, but its repetitious shouting is too overpowering to handle.

        Rihanna simply astounding that Rihanna has never taken a break in the seven years she’s hit the scene, but has never managed to become overexposed! I am one of her biggest fan from her first time on the scene, but then that Chris Brown fiasco happened and it’s never been the same. Hopefully we can count on some strong singles to follow Diamonds which will hopefully follow “Talk That Talk.” Rihanna is the diva to end all divas! Honestly it’s become a race in terms of pop diva’s , Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Ke$ha, Adele, Taylor are all fighting for that number one spot and I look forward to see who claws her way to the top, Or find Britney Spears already standing there Holding things Down!!!

      on collaborating with Britney Spears I asked my fans last week who they wanted me to collaborate with, and Britney was one of the most popular names. It’s very strange because Britney never does features. It was really amazing that she really wanted to be part of this song. She really liked the song to begin with, but it was a different story when she had to sing it, and she really wanted to be a part of it. So it made it really, really special, because you never see two pop female artists doing songs together any more. Just call us ‘R&B’.

        Back in February, Rihanna released her second fragrance “Rebelle” which was the follow up to her debut scent “Reb’l Fleur”. Since then, the bottle has been sold almost 4 million times in the UK, beating all of its celebrity competitors such a Britney Spears “Midnight Fantasy” and Jennifer Lopez’s “Nude”. In fact, it’s done so well it’s officially the fastest selling celebrity perfume of all time in UK history! With that being said, Reb’l Fleur is still my favourite.

Similarly, at the MTV VMA’s she collected the “Video of the Year” moonman for “We Found Love”, which is one award myself and fellow fans had been wanting her to win for ages.

        In support of her newest album “Unapologetic”, Rihanna decided to take 150 lucky fans and journalists on her private jet, on a one-week 777 world tour, hitting the likes of everywhere from London to New York. Unfortunately, I wasn’t on the plane, and the majority of the media who were decided it wasn’t enough simply being on the same plane and complained about being tired and not being given “access” to Rihanna whilst on the jet. I wonder if they’d like to be badgered with numerous interviews and questions after performing a 2 hour show, each night, for a week – in completely different countries? Didn’t think so.

      Rihanna is embracing her island roots on the reggae-infused Loud track “Man Down.”

      On it, she sings about shooting a man over police sirens and instrumentation ready-made for Bob Marley. She was really proud the song made the final cut for her album, which dropped this week.

      ‘Man Down’ Has ‘A Lot Of Swagger’
      ‘Man Down’ is gangsta! It comes from me trying to achieve that vibe,” she stated . “I’m super inspired by reggae music [and it] has been a part of me since I was born, and I grew up listening to it. I grew up loving it. My favorite artists are all reggae artists.”

      Rihanna is from Barbados, so delving into reggae culture is a natural fit for the pop songstress. “I live that culture,” she added. “I never get tired of it. I can listen to reggae music all day long, and it was exciting for me to take this on as my own and do a song like this, especially with the lyrics being like that.”

      On the track, Rihanna sings, “Oh, mama/ I just shot a man down/ In Central Station/ In front of a big ol’ crowd,” her singing voice fully embracing her accent. She later sings, “I am a criminal/ Man down/ Tell the judge to please give me minimal.”

      “The special thing in that song is the fact that it’s a female singing those lyrics, then you have that reggae thing and the chant; the overall energy in that song is so gangsta,” she said. “It’s got a lot of swagger. I really enjoy it.”

    What a fucking joke…Thumb me down all you want. The day that rihanna’s reign took place music died. Now don’t get me wrong a couple of her songs are fire. Mainly from the GGGB era. Other than that she is trash. When she tours this time she won’t even surpass what she did with the loud tour. I don’t like oldyonce like that but at least the bitch can sing and dance.       on Chris Brown It’s incredible to see how he pulled out of it the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know? I really like the music he’s putting out. I’m a fan of his stuff. I’ve always been a fan. Obviously, I had some resentment toward him for a while, for obvious reasons. But I’ve put that behind me. It was taking up too much of my time. It was too much anger. I’m really excited to see the breakthrough he’s had in his career. I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have. (2011).

If I had to examine her evolution through time, I think she reinvented her clothing style and music with success every single time.         on recording music with Chris Brown in 2012 I reached out to him about doing ‘Birthday Cake’ because that’s the only person that really – it made sense to do the record. Just as a musician – despite everything else – that was going to be the person. You know I thought about rappers, and I’ve done that so many times, and the hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown. So I wanted him on the track, and then in turn he was like ‘Why don’t you do the remix to my track?’ and it was a trade off. We did two records. One for my fans. One for his fans, and that way our fans can come together. There shouldn’t be a divide. You know? It’s music, and it’s innocent.

        on her weight loss in 2012 The Five Factor Diet has gone straight out the window ever since I went on tour. I mean, It’s difficult to have any kind of routine when your schedule is that crazy. So I really have no idea how I’m continuously losing weight.     RIHANNA will unveil her River Island collection with a catwalk show during London Fashion Week. The invite-only event will be held on Saturday February 16.

    “Launching at London Fashion Week is a dream come true for me,” said Rihanna. ” I have wanted to design my own collection for a long time and to present my collection for River Island alongside all of the other great design talent at LFW is a real privilege. I can’t wait to see the reaction from my fans and the fashion press!”

    The much-anticipated collaboration of clothing and accessories will launch internationally in River Island stores and online on Tuesday March 5, and will be stocked at Opening Ceremony in the US and Japan.

    “We are very excited to present our Rihanna for River Island collection at London Fashion Week,” said Ben Lewis, River Island’s chief executive. “This is the perfect platform to showcase Rihanna’s design talent and ambition.”
