Keyshia Cole: ‘No More Singles From ‘Woman To Woman’

Keyshia Cole: No More Singles From Woman To Woman

Despite being well on its way to reaching Gold Certification, it seems the plug has been pulled on Keyshia Cole‘s latest LP ‘Woman To Woman‘.

Yes, despite selling more units at a faster rate than any other female R&B release in 2012, the ‘Trust & Believe‘ singer has revealed that there will be no more singles from the album.

Find out why below…

However, perhaps in realizing her mistake, she then implemented a little damage control with the below:

Screen Shot 2013 01 22 at 10.17.32 Keyshia Cole: No More Singles From Woman To Woman

What’s unfortunate about Keyshia’s Tweets, even when her ‘clarification’ is taken into account, is that they undermine the support her fans have shown her week on week on the Billboard 200.

For, while it may not be obvious to all, ‘Woman To Woman’ is what some might call a slow burner. The kind of LP, that starts off modestly but sells enough units each week to guarantee it doesn’t go down as a commercial failure.

It’s for this reason that her comments will confuse many of her fans, who in their support for her will be aware that stand as one of the only fan bases to support their ‘fave’ with their mouths and money, while other support groups are guilty of doing one but not the other.

Let’s just hope these Tweets haven’t burnt her chances of going Gold, and the loyalty that has ensured she sells more than 90% of the ‘R&B girls’, even on her worst day.

Your thoughts?

You can count on 1 hand how many Hip-Hop/Soul/R&B albums went GOLD last year, however the amount of Pop/Country albums that went PLATINUM is endless

Thats not true. Country is probably the ONLY genre that sells very well when it comes to albums, pop music can’t compete. The only reason why pop is popular in the charts is because that genre sell more SINGLES.
Most big names is pop like Ke$ha, Flo-rida, Bruno Mars, etc, don’t sell well once the album drops.

      • It has nothing to do with being broke. It’s like why buy the album when you can download it for free? I’m guilty. I have to REALLY like an artist to purchase the album.

  • HER ATTITUDE HAS ALWAYS BEEN TERRIBLE!!! That’s why she can’t keep a friend and for many years couldn’t keep a man. Poor Boobie took so much shyt from her on that show it’s ridiculous. I met her after being a huge fan. She was rude dry. And walked off while I was speaking . Monica came out right behind her hugged fans took pics signed autographs it was then I realized the difference between and artist and a star

    Stupid girl!
Before she said that everyone thought the album was doing well because of that sales article they put on here last week. She’s the typical example of when keeping it real goes wrong. I genuinely thought the album was killing it because of tgj’s article but now everyone has clocked that its underperforming.

Can’t get over how ungrateful she is to her fans too. Brandy and Kelly wish they sell like she is and she’s out her complaning. FOH.

TGJ’s thread had me believing miss bitch was slaying when they broke her sales down and showed how she was almost at Gold but this has pissed me all the way off.

How do you say your album is flopping in public when you’re the ONLY one besides B and Mary that can still sell, I’m really over her for this.

HER ATTITUDE IS REALLY SHITTY. THAT WAS CLEAR ON THE SHOW. SHE THINKS THAT HER LAST ALBUM DIDN’T SELL BECAUSE SHE WAS MAKING “HAPPY MUSIC” BUT NO BOTH THESE ALBUMS AREN’T SELLING WELL BECAUSE HER ATTITUDE SUCKS AND THE PRODUCTION ISN’T FRESH ON THESE ALBUMS. SHE DOGGED THE HELL OUTTA BOOBIE ON THE SHOW. I FELT SO BAD FOR HIM. HE WAS LAYING UP WITH A BUSTED ANKLE AND ALL SHE KEPT TALKING ABOUT WAS NEEDING TO FINISH HER ALBUM -_- SMH AT WHAT POINT DO YOU BECOME A LOVING WIFE? A GRATEFUL HUMBLE ARTIST? UNTIL SHE BECOMES ONE, HER MUSIC WILL CONTINUE TO FLOP.

Not sure who said or started what.

My only concern is WHY don’t some of these artists take their careers fully into their own hands? I get tired of the”Record company didn’t support my album.” etc. If I was worth the good couple million some of these artists are do you think I’d let some label prevent me from making a video?

Put down $100k, get some extras, a studio, and a film school graduate and make some vids for the singles/songs from your album. Ciara’s done it, LeToya’s done it, I believe Kelly too (she needs a jump start though). In fact, MJ PAID for the Thriller video himself and imagine what his career, the industry, dance and music videos would be like if he’d have said “the label don’t wanna fund my new short film.” (Epic had already paid $250k for the Billie Jean vid, they REFUSED to pay out more when Thriller had already become the world’s biggest seller).

Stars, get inspired! Stop actin’ like you broke! I’m talkin’ to you, Brandy too, who obviously thought “Put It Down” meant her promotional efforts.

You always have insightful perspectives with COMMON SENSE LOL

    • Matthew, you are on point here!

I am also getting sick and tired of these artists waiting for a label to make their albums sell. If you really want success, make it happen!

As for Brandy, as much as I love her I have to call her out. For the life of me I can’t understand where her business sense is. I mean after all these years in the industry you would think she knows how to keep a project alive and yet she’s just standing by watching her album sales slide when she has a good product on her hands. PROMOTE THAT SH!T!!!

If you have the money (like Brandy clearly does), finance your own video if the label won’t. Most rappers are releasing 2-3 singles at a time- why aren’t these r&b artists doing the same thing?

I may not be big fan of Beyonce but that girl’s hustle is like no other’s. She’s not on top just because of her talent but because she has work ethic and she is a smart business woman.

And this is why once again she is about to dominate r&b while everybody else is on the sidelines wishing they had a career like hers. SMDH!

      • Not everyone wants to spend their hard earned money on something their label is contractually bound to do! Keyshia has a family ! When Ciara did it for Fantasy Ride, she was a 23 y.o multi millionaire w/ no responsibilities ! She could afford it !

THAT’S BECAUSE BRANDY IS ACCUSTOMED TO LETTING THE LABEL RUN HER CAREER. BRANDY ISN’T RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF HER SUCCESS. PEOPLE WROTE HER SONGS AND THE LABEL HANDLED THE BUSINESS ASPECT. THIS IS WHY SHE HAS NO BUSINESS ACUMEN. SHE’S A PUPPET IF YOU WILL. SAD TO SAY BUT SHE IS.

    • No Keyshia doesn’t have that kind of money…I wasn’t referring to her. I’m talking about the ones who can afford to do it.

Keyshia does have control over her image tho and she needs to work on being a little more positive. I fell in love with her voice the first time I heard “I Changed My Mind” and bought her debut album the first day it came out. But slowly her attitude has turned me off somehow. IJS.

      • I’m sure Keyshia Cole has millions of dollars. She has had two successful reality series, 3 platinum selling albums (though ‘A Different Me’ never received certification) She should have about 6-7mil in the bank bc most of her production is done in house , she doesn’t have an expensive team, musically

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! THESE R&B CATS ARE LAZYYYYYY! THEN WANT TO SAY THEY’RE NOT SELLING BECAUSE R&B IS DEAD! IF THEY WOULD GET OFF OF THEIR ASSES AND TWITTER TO PROMOTE AND MAKE QUALITY MUSIC, IT’D SELL. ADORN IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF QUALITY PRODUCT BECAUSE SONICALLY, IT’S FLAWLESS. I GET SICK AND TIRED OF THE SAME CHURCHY BEATS BEING USED ON TRACKS AND THESE ARTISTS COVER THE SAME SUBJECT MATTER. COUPLE THAT WITH THE LACK OF PROMOTION/VIDEOS AND YOU’VE GOT YOURSELF A FLOP.

This album is selling better than Calling all Hearts has. Keyshia should be more thankful that in an era dominated by dance pop music that her album full of 100% R&B music by a black woman, her album is selling quite well.

Keyshia i love u dear but there are far more classier ways to get attention and people talking about you than trying to create this kind of gossip and drama.

  • I don’t get the point of this post. Did she shade her fans or truthfully state label policy about how they treat certain artists & their albums? I am a fan who bought the album the day it dropped and other KeyCole fans did as well. Others wait on the sidelines till they hear enough tracks for free on youtube then may decide to buy it later. If she had the $$ she could finance a video herself but who knows if that would help sales.

For the past 5 – 6 years, labels have been cutting r&b artists’ budgets and most of them only get to release 2 tracks per album which is why their 1st week sales are so important. Anyone who truly likes r&b know that WOMAN TO WOMAN is one of the best r&b albums released in 2012. Isn’t this how Monica’s STILL STANDING album was treated? That album had way more than 2 great singles but that’s all the label would support.

I’m too old to “stan” for anybody – I love KeyCole’s music so I support her by buying cd’s & going to her shows. I don’t get these random comments about her rude attitude – PLENTY of folks in the entertainment biz are rude and arrogant as hell! If her contemporaries were also judged just by their attitude – Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Mary J Blige, Usher and many others would have no career.

I don’t care to be her friend nor do I care to comment about her marriage or personal life – if I ever encountered Key I’d probably just say “I’m a fan, keep doing great music” and keep it moving. I would advise her to stay the hell off Twitter unless she’s promoting a project or let her PR person handle it because situations like this can become too messy because people can interpret comments however they like and make something out of nothing.

  • She needs to order “Get It Right” to radio immediately! That song has been a favorite for people since they first heard it from the studio when she was on U-Stream recording it. “Woman To Woman” with Ashanti is a great single as well. She should also push “Stubborn” because of it’s crossover appeal and “Wonderland” with Elijah Blake since people seem to be loving him right now. It could do some really big things on the R&B charts and eventually crack the Hot 100. This album is a great R&B album and it’s got many a single choice. She needs to humble her attitude and make sure she corrects the mistakes made with ‘Calling All Hearts’ such as failing to release “So Impossible”. With the right exposure, this record could be an award winning success. It’s got the critical acclaim and great material, now it just needs the push and some touring.

  • Beyoncé has been widely praised for her beautiful rendition of the national anthem at Monday’s presidential inauguration.

But even after seeing her triumphantly pull her earpiece out as she belted out the words, buzz is now bubbling up that the superstar wasn’t singing it live.

TheTimes of London is reporting that a spokeswoman for the Marine Corps Band says it is standard procedure to record a backing track and that Beyoncé decided soon before stepping to the microphone to use it.

UPDATE, 5:28 p.m. ET: The U.S. Marine Corps is backing off earlier statements that Beyoncé lip-synced the national anthem, the Associated Press reports.

According to a statement, the band did not play live, however, Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Gregory Wolf tells AP no one in the band is in a position to know whether Beyonce’s vocal performance was live or pre-recorded.

UPDATE, 1 p.m. ET: Master Sgt. Kristin DuBois, spokeswoman for the President’s Own United States Marine Band, confirms to USA TODAY’s Maria Puente that Beyoncé was lip-syncing.

It’s standard operating procedure for musicians to pre-record crucial music such as Hail to the Chief and The Star-Spangled Banner. “You can’t have a presidential inauguration and not have Hail to the Chief and Star-Spangled Banner,” she says.

And it’s not unprecedented to use the pre-recorded track, as Yo-Yo Ma did last time, classical instruments being delicate in cold weather. But the band performed live for the entire ceremony, except for Beyoncé.

DuBois says they were “surprised” to be given instructions during the ceremonies that they were to stand and pretend to play their instruments during the national anthem, and they “don’t know” why that decision was made. Or even who made it. Probably Beyoncé. “It’s not what we would have chosen, but we were instructed to do it so we did.”‘

As for Beyoncé, “we all know she has the pipes,” she said. “It wasn’t because she can’t sing it or because the band can’t play it, because we can. … We performed live, as we have for every inauguration since 1801.”

She said that every four years somebody wants to write a story about “was it live or was it Memorex?”

She also says Kelly Clarkson sang live, and that the band’s staff arranger wrote the special arrangement of My Country, ‘Tis of Thee that she used.

If anyone can handle brutal playing conditions, the band can, she says. “This group of people are such pros, they can make it work no matter what. They are so accustomed to playing under any condition.”

Washingtonian.com posed the question, too: “Did Beyoncé Lip-Sync the Star-Spangled Banner?”

Washingtonian’s Sophie Gilbert writes, “To press seated just below the podium, in front of the ‘President’s Own’ Marine Corps Band, it was evident that the band wasn’t actually playing during the song — even though band director Colonel Michael J. Colburn was conducting energetically and the band members mimicked blowing into their instruments.”

And offering more possible evidence, Gilbert notes that “the day before the ceremony, Beyoncé posted pictures to her Instagram account that appeared to show her in a recording studio. In one, she holds a copy of the sheet music to The Star Spangled Banner in front of a microphone attached to a recording device, and in another she sits in front of recording equipment while members of the Marine Corps Band stand clutching sheet music behind her.”

Indeed, Beyoncé did share those photos on her website.
