Fans sweet on a certain Willow Smith have been invited to the treat that is her latest offering ‘Sugar & Spice’.
Smith, best known for her upbeat singles ‘Fireball’ and ‘Whip My Hair’, has whipped up quite the chatter about ‘Sugar’ as it, despite what its title may suggest, isn’t exactly the bubblegum pop fans have come to know of the self-proclaimed ’21st Century Girl’.
Ringing in an impressive vocal display, ‘Sugar’ certainly showcases a maturity in the growing songstress. But, is its subject matter too mature? You tell us:
“Inject my soul with darkness…”
“I write circles in the sky while I’m drowning”…
Wow! It’s hard not to be impressed with this, even if the subject matter is arguably inappropriate for the young singer. Quite reminiscent of her famous mother Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s music, this Radiohead sampled song also boasts hints of Rihanna‘s ‘Diamonds’ in its delivery. If this tune will be on the tracklist of her ill-fated Roc Nation debut ‘Knees & Elbows’, is now unknown.
What is known is that this ‘Fireball’ is certainly a ball of talent. We, and the emo kids of the world, look forward to more. Drake probably loves this.
Your thoughts?

nobody is buying Willow Smith right now…the content and her age don’t work…stick to “whip my hair” or wait until you’re 16 to slay

WOW WOW WOW I LOVE this, it is so different, go WILLOW.
I also like that she is obtaining her own identity, the Rihanna 2.0 look wasn’t working for her. GOOD JOB WILLOW.
I only wish she could leave Roc Nation, they’re clueless and are not doing her any favors.

Sad that some of you grown ass people are dissing a 12 year old. She has years to get there. Those Smiths are just epic.

Wow, I forgot about Willow! It’s nice to hear such artistic grow. I like the fact that she wants to take her music in a totally different direction from the type of song she had a hit with (for the sake of being a “real artist” ). Is this track everything it should be? … Tbh, it’s not, but it’s getting there. It’s so close! In a few years she might be someone to watch out for though!

Mama Jada said she aint releasing her album. That Jay wants her to drop singles and grow more. I agree she’s still young. No need to drop an album now do the singles every once in awhile. She’s cute and has a hell of a voice .

I feel like Jada is living her dreams through this little girl. I wouldn’t be surprised if she wrote this song, and styled her. Jada is such a weirdo. Willow, herself said that she wanted to be a normal damn child.

Willow must have been bought up with the most diverse music ever , her mother being a heavy metal rock artist and father a rapper, it’s incredible that at 12 she is producing such mature work, there is no rush for her to be out there, she can release a few singles every now and then until she’s 15 – 16 and then enter the world as one of the most solid youngsters in the music business
This is a greeat track she does try to hard to be alittle older than her years which is natural for any young artist, yet for her to write and produce music like this is genius, wait til shes 15 – 16 she will be oustanding

Well…very deep introspective lyrics and mellow tempos for a 12 year old. The girl is pretty mature for her age. Just hopin she doesn’t become too self destructive with her dark twists these days.

too young, too much.
I feel so sorry for the hard-working artists out there who dedicate their lives to writing music and mastering instruments and barely being able to afford food, while spoilt overpaid brats like willow can get other people to write songs for her and she goes home to a mansion.

She sounds solid vocally, but damn these lyrics are wayyy too dark for a 12 year old. They’re borderline laughable, not even dashboard confessionals could get this emo. And that ending? cmon maaaaan
