Powerful… It amazes me how candid Brandy is when she discusses her fears and insecurities. Besides her talent, that’s what I love about her. I saw her in ’06/’07 in Atlanta and I remember feeling like she loss her spark. It was all in her eyes. You ever see someone that was great that just didn’t believe it. Brandy’s face always tells on her. She was doing a show and also signing autographs afterwards. I wanted to find the words to tell her that she’s still a beast and that everything she’s accomplished during her career was truly enough! That’s all I wanted to say, but when I really like certain people it never comes out the way I want. I was approaching her doing too much, trying to be to smooth … Brandy noticed me though. I said hi to her and her mom (sitting beside her) and then echoed everyone that came before me: Brandy I love you! Your amazing! Sounding simple as hell … It was the most typical shit you can blurt out. I left feeling like I didn’t do my job! Bran doesn’t know how Icon she is and how she changed music for me!
I actually thought to myself that Bran would never get to that place of understanding how significant her place in history is as one of the modern mainstream superstars (you know, after the 80′s barrier breakers). I’m pleased with this Two Eleven era (and it has nothing to do with sales or hits). I’m happy because Brandy received so much love that was overdue and she’s continuing on with her legacy of almost 2 decades after finding a way to reinvent herself. She’s still relevant and that’s all that people who were great need to strive for!

Because she was one of the first black teen pop stars to have such a big brand. She had a big impact on pop culture in the 90s. She was one of R&B’s leading ladies among Aaliyah and Monica. That surely should count for something.
Sure, she doesn’t have the same commercial success from then but you have people praising and mentioning her musical and vocal abilities post Full Moon, so that keeps her relevant. She’s been in this business for almost 20 years, and she’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Every artist has peaks and valleys in their careers, no one stays on top forever. Declines are inevitable, and you don’t have to be an industry heavy-weight to have longevity.

Her first two albums sells 4+ & 5 million in the U.S. alone, she plays the lead in the most watched made for TV movie (cast as the first African American Cinderella), wins over 100 industry awards, responsible for a record-breaking single (Boy Is Mine) that slayed for 13 weeks (with only 7 songs in the history of music recording staying on top longer), joins a block busted horror film chain (I Now What You Did Last Summer), has a sitcom series built around her that aired for 6 seasons, had dolls made in her image, numerous endorsements deals (from Cover girl to Guess) and performed everywhere (Billboard, MTV, American Music Awards, Emmys, Divas Live – when it was important, etc ), wins a Grammy … and this is moderate? Whether you like Bran or not, she was the first modern day diva’s to have it like that and be that “it” girl. Everyone knew Bran and moderate was not a part of the vocabulary when it comes to discussing her.

That’s not 4-5 million on one go around … That’s 4 million plus AND then 5 million (plus) in the U.S. alone (with her first two albums). I’m not sure why Toni Braxton was mentioned, but she was amazing as well (in fact her and Bran’s worldwide sells for both their first 2 projects were very similar).
There were a few artist that may have snagged a sitcom during the 90′s ( or ’00′s even), but that doesn’t mean that each one of them were as successful as Brandy with her series. Moesha went on to become one of the greatest hit shows over the course of the network’s entire run.
