Let’s face it…
The turn of the century has unfortunately been accompanied by an under-appreciation of true vocalists. Veritably, it has been clear to see that as production technology has increased its ability, inversely, quality vocal performances have decreased.
Turn on the radio today and you will be assaulted by an abundance of autotune, so much so one may question if he/she is listening to real people or The Transformers…
*Voting closes Monday, January 14th at 11:59pm CST*
However, there are a select few who have remained faithful to vocal integrity and, in turn, have been awarded the title ‘Vocal Bible’. The title, a pedestal of sorts, implies that a vocalist has become the standard by which others do or should follow. Often attributed to the Whitney Houstons, Barbra Streisands, and Mariah Careys of music history, these ladies have undeniably defined an era’s singing style that few could contest.
This generation, on the other hand (presumably due to the dearth of deserving divas), has seen more debate (and loose usage) regarding such titling. So, we leave it to you – That Grape Juice Faithful – to tell us:
Considering only artists who are under 40, who is this generation’s VB?

I picked no one because there is no Whitney or Aretha of this generation. A true vocalist is someone who effortlessly can hit amazing notes with a huge range and I have not seen that since Whitney’s good days (Bodyguard soundtrack era and before). Monica, Christina Aguilera, and Ledisi can sing but their styles are not good enough to be studied. Beyonce can carry a good tune but is no true vocalist. Alicia Keys being on the list is just a joke (ie she cannot sing). The only artist that I see that could possibly fit the question is Jill Scott but she is not on the list!!!

The Mariah x Whitney formula is finished – the girls who can sing like them are just that – mariah/whitney clones not original and they dont stand out.

Brandy has pretty much birthed this current music industry, those younger and older than her. Lets be all the way real.
Here’s an example: Chris Brown learned a lot of his technique including his runs from Brandy. Justin Bieber learned his style of runs from Chris who learned from Brandy.
Indi.Arie credited Brandy for inspiring so many singers from this generation including herself. She is quoted as saying “we hear so many people singing and we’re like that’s a Brandy run, that’s a Brandy run, that’s a Brandy Vocal stack.”
Who does vocal stacks like Brandy??? She invented the vocal stack many try but none come close to her.

Leona Lewis, Beyonce
they are the only ones who I believe genuinely give people goosebumps when they sing live and hit the notes exactly as they do on they’re digital songs,
Leona’s live performances are unparalleled by anyone, she sings Whitney songs better than Whitney did. Look at her performance of IWALY on UK XF.
Beyonce’s Love On Top at the VMA’s was captivating.
Xtina had it but her recent performances have been shockingly awful.

THIS SITE JUST DOES NOT KNOW TALENT.
All those singers are Pop singers tho???????
There are plenty of “VOCAL BIBLES” in genres other than fucking Pop music.
What about Rock, Jazz, Folk, Blues, New-Age and World music?
The last time I checked, JAZZ singer “Georgia Brown” has been called the VOICE of this generation by numerous critics!!!
Whatever, so much my ECLECTIC music tastes. And the best LIVE singer in Pop music right now would have to be Beyonce or Christina Aguilera.

Beyonce is obviously a good singer but Brandy has always been my favorite. Her tone and agile runs and lower register is just beautiful and everything. Christina has power but her voice always seems forced and choked out. She puts too many runs unnecessarily. She really isn’t a skilled singer to me like ppl hype her to be but she does have talent. Whitney MC obviously had some of the best powerhouse vocals back in the day. But no one can deny Whitney’s clarity and vocal precision in her belts which is why I’ve always loved her the best. I liked MC for artistic expression in her singing but her airy head singing could be overwhelming and draining at times but boy could she finish a song with a good climax. Anyway, I go with brandy. But lots of these singers have their own expressive and special tones that make them good. I like beyonce’s voice for her technique and being able to hit notes while dancing. That’s a talent u can’t deny either.

Silly poll. People on this website tend to equate screaming with vocal talent. A true vocalist doesn’t need dramatics to get their points across. ALMOST everyone in the poll is unique, vocally in their own right.
Adele – Beautiful voice, but tends to get boring after a while.
Alicia Keys – She has never been an amazing vocalist to me. She strains a lot and tends to go off key. Her songwriting and artistry is what sets her apart from the crowd.
Beyonce – Say what you want about Bey, but she is one of the best vocalists of our time. Take away the wind machine, flashy outfits and dramatics and you still have an AMAZING technical singer. Perfect pitch.
Brandy – Love, love, LOVE Brandy’s voice. Her control is sick, her runs are divine, her tone is ice cold and her harmonies are fucking hypnotizing. Extremely underrated.
Christina Aguilera – I’ve never been a fan of her voice. She tries too hard for me. Next.
Fantasia – Vocal BEAST! I will admit that her screaming can be a bit much sometimes, but she KNOWS her voice. She is the one and only TRUE soul singer of this generation, and she WILL be a legend. Not to mention the sick shit can she do with her voice. Her runs, scats, intonation, growls, improvisation….takes me to church everytime and I’m not a religious person!
Jennifer Hudson – Meh. When she’s not hitting those loud notes, she’s a pretty boring singer. No charisma, nothing interesting about her voice. She sounds like Sister Mable from the Baptist Church down the street.
Ledisi – OMG! I loooove this womans voice. She’s another singer with crazy control. Perfect pitch.
Jazmine Sullivan – WHAT??? Another jewel who’s on her way to becoming a legend. Her vocals are dope. The raspiness, the runs, the scats…..eargasms!
Lady Gaga – Good singer.
Kelly Clarkson – Great singer. I remember her saying that she got a lot of her vocal influence from the black church, and you can tell. I loved her on American Idol.
Jojo – Another vocal beast. I love how dark & husky her voice has gotten over the years.
But we all know that Brandy was originally hailed the “vocal bible,” by people in the industry…..sooooo………

CHRISTINA DOESN T NEED TO SCREAM ALL THE TIME WHEN SHE IS SOFT SHE WON.
This why BRANDY is the vocal bible. she has the control of her voice her tone is cray cray. she doesn’t have the range or the powerfull voice that B and christina has BUT she has the skill to touch directly your soul. Like BANG!!!! and its more powerfull than anything. PERIOD.
BEYONCE need to find the nuances in her voice because of her trained for me it too technical and less emotion. and i agree again B is one a the greatest singer of his generation and EVERYBODY KNOW THAT SHE WILL BE ACCLAIM THIS WAY at least.

King Beyoncé is the best. She has got the best technique. She’s the only bitch that can dance and sing at the same time.
XLtina Aguilera isn’t great. She doesn’t have a good technique and most of time she just screams and sound off key. She doesn’t have any control of her voice. If she keeps forcing her throat like she uses to, she won’t have any voice.

Well…seeing as Adele released Skyfall for the James Bond soundtrack in October of 2012 (which, last time I checked was within the past year…) that charted within the top ten of virtually ever major chart in the world and has been nominated for an Academy Award. Regardless, she is clearly relevant and her success with 21 is unparalleled in this “generation” she is very much a part of. Thank you and goodnight.

My fave: Christina is the powerhouse, unfortunately she has a bad reputation of using her voice the wrong way technically… so many great moments.
Beyonce is great as well… I can’t say she is a powerhouse, but she has great tone and control…she oversings just as much as the rest, but I enjoy her.
Brandy…what can you say? She has a great tone and knows how to use her voice.
There’s a few others on the list who I enjoy as well….but I wouldn’t say anyone is really trying to follow in their footsteps, vocally!

The Title Vocal Bible was exclusively given to Brandy after the release of her Full Moon Album as recognition for her outstanding vocals on the aforementined album why you would use vocal bible to ask who should be called that is beyond me its like asking who is the real Sasha Fierce? when we all know thats Beyonce Vocal Bible is Brandy full stop its her title after all! rather ask who is the greatest vocalist of all time?

Please tell them! There would be no “vocal bible” title had it not been for Brandy, so why Sam is taking her title and handing it out to the undeserving is beyond me. And for Christina Aguilera to have the most votes is a joke. Name an artist or writer or producer who references Aguilera as an example for vocal skill and technique…we can’t because they don’t reference her.
Brandy had an album out when Christina was still on the Mickey Mouse club, matter of fact she learned her runs from Brandy! This pole is a joke. Must be a bunch of Aguilera Stan’s mad that her album is not doing well (granted the album is amazing).

Agreed, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga are great performers but I’d only call them good singers rather than great ones. However, their ability to sing live and dance takes them a notch above most other artists – in pop particularly just being a good singer is not enough. They are both technically good and that is what counts – use the voice you have well and not the one you wish you had ;o)

Beyonce
And I will break it down
Beyonce is a vocalist and understands her voice probably better than any other Popstar out today. Also Christina could have been my number one but she over-sings alot and also uses the wrong technique, Beyonce over-sings alot to but at least she uses proper technique. Also her voice get better with each release and can give you live vocal showing that is perfect and on key.
However she has a mediocre tone at best………….She doesn’t have the natural great voice like a CA or even Leona Lewis and the songs that she choices to sing does not really show the real greatness that her voice is.Quite frankly the only thing B does not have with her voice is a whistle register.

Beyonce’s voice is the most versatile. period. she can sing whatever she wants. Brandy’s voice is top notch, perfect controll, unique in that… but it’s like, always in the same register… I would definittly nominate her as a voice in the same league as whitney and Mariah in terms of it’s one of a kind register.
Still, Beyonce wins this. Christina lost her’s and Kelly Clarkson’s voice is not as versatile as Beyonce’s. My humble opinion, good poll tgj.

Obviously the biggest name there is her and Adele so she probably will be the one to rep for this generation mostly but that doesnt make her better than some of the other ladies on that list.

There Are alot of things to consider when calling someone a “Vocal Bible”
These Qualities to me are
Knowing your keys
being able to work with what you got(vocally)
Live expression
singing at the drop of a hat
compliment the lyrics melody,
also being able to ride a beat
Let Your mouth be an Instrument
With that being said the only person i know that can be considered a vocal bible is … BRANDY.
It’s not about being a Diva Or a Powerhouse vocalist It’s about knowing how to use your voice.
Not singing because you pretty or you sung in church and can yell.

I voted that this generation has no Vocal Bible (whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean). There are good singers out there but they don’t compare to the greats of old. Christina could have been the voice of this generation as she has a fantastic voice but she doesn’t know how to use it properly and is constantly shrieking, oversinging and straining – not surprised her voice doesn’t sound as good as it used to. Adele is a fantastic soul singer but I find her a bit samey after a while, I will say she is the best for expressing emotion but her voice doesn’t really do it for me on a personal level. Alicia Keys is another good singer, as is Kelly Clarkson, but neither of them are great singers. I’m not familiar enough with the other names on the list to comment, people keep on mentioning this Brandy but the only place I’ve ever heard her name is on this blog – assume she is American rather than international (I’m UK)?

I would say Beyonce would be more this generations best female PERFORMER because she is so multi faceted. When you think of the voice or a vocal bible its people that only use their voice like Mariah and Whitney. In which Adele or Leona Lewis would fit more. But Beyonce would be this generations ultimate female performer.

Oh, I hate this post with a passion! … but both my girls are in this, so I’m going to just say my piece.
I selected both my B’s! … Why?
Brandy simply has such a masterful tone and technique. Her voice is so unique and charismatic. I also hear a vulnerability that I don’t feel as much when anyone else sings (other than maybe Janet). I don’t know why, but Brandy’s music just seems like it touches me the most (in such a personal way).
Beyonce has power , control and sheer confidence. There also a reason why people use words like perfection when describing Bey. It’s like her vocals have the classic styling of great singers in the past, but it’s an added agility and packed in passion that I feel reminds me of no other singer! I personally need a singer to be bold the way B is! I love that she has such a big voice, but it’s skilled. Bey also does it for me live (more so than any other singer, after Whitney).
So for me Brandy is who slays on my ipod and Bey slays on the stage. I need both of that in my life, so there is no clear winner.
I also don’t intermix titles Bran (is the VB) and King works perfectly fine for Bey!

Well Christina has always strained. She pushes her larynx up instead of having it neutral which causes a “try-hard” sound instead of a relaxed, free one. That’s y shes not the voice to me. Just an overrated singer. So it’s not something new. She’s been doing that for years which is why her performances have been poor year days. People that understand about vocals know what I mean.
As for Adele: okay I get the nice husky tone she has is classy and pleasing to masses. But voice of our generation? She’s good but not that good. I put her in the same vocal boat as gaga. Good singers but also can be boring sometimes…

I hate when people say that Vocalist are the only real artist because they only used their voices to gain legendary status.Do you know that with that comment you are dis-crediting my all time fav Michael Jackson,so because she did not rely on his voice alone, but use his ability to dance and entertain and his catchy music he is not a real artist. Seriously, don’t get me wrong I like vocalist and people that use their voices only but I rather and will always choose a entertainer over a voclaist.S

A lot of you people don’t really get it.
That Grape Drink, y’all are a mess for this.
The title was specifically coined for BRANDY NORWOOD.
No one else, just the facts. People just have to do their homework.
Being a vocal bible doesn’t have anything to do with having a big, LOUD voice, or being a powerhouse…It’s not about being the best ‘entertainer’, it’s NOT about singing and dancing at the same time, it’s NOT about being a diva…
It’s about a singer who has honed their skills by practicing and perfecting their craft…It’s about a singer who knows how to use their voice effectively to its potential. It’s about exploring various nuances with their voices.
It really doesn’t MATTER who wins this “fan voted poll” for vocal bible of our generation. The fact remains that the title was originally and initially coined for recognizing BRANDY’S vocal prowess.
Like I said before. Do your homework!

I’m sorry Adele is so over rated. SHe can definitely sing but she ain’t no big vocalist in my opinion.
Jennifer Hudson has a nice voice but I wouldn’t give her the title either.
Leona Lewis is AMAZING but she copies Mariah too much. ** Looks at ‘Spirit’s album cover then looks at Mariah’s debut album cover**
It’s between CHRISTINA AGUILERA and BEYONCE. Not a fan of either but IMO they have really amazing voices. I would probably give the title to Beyonce because Christina tends to over sing sometimes which can make her performances a bit unbareable.
I must say that if Beyonce and Christina were both put on stage in THEIR PRIMES, Christina would DEFINITELY slay beyonce. But I still prefer Beyonce’s voice because she doesn’t STRAIN as much as Christina. And I also think because did a much better job with with ‘at last’.

I’m quite surprised by your post, but I agree (or at least see you point) with everything that you’ve stated. I think Adele is a solid vocalist, but she’s overrated. Some people are swayed by her success and might be giving her more credit than she deserves.
It’s also a fair estimation done between Bey and Christina. I’d love to have seen the old Christina join DC and Celine Dion for that stellar performance of “Emotions”. That would have been the perfect song to compare vocals between them.

I would not call Brandy a vocal bible because she does not have the biggest range what makes her voice so good is her tone and her runs but that is about that.
The only thing Adele really has is unique tone and emotion.
You can’t say Adele is the voice of a geneartion she does not have the years in the business to cement that position and just because her albums do great and she only uses her voice so she can’t be a vocal bible.
A vocal bible is a person that can do it all or nearly close to all.
And that is Beyonce.
The only real artist I would say is vocal bible is MARIAH CAREY because she does it all(agility, whistle, control, power, range, technique).Yes they are things she does better than other vocally but she still has it all.The only one coming close to that vocally for this generation is Beyonce.

Truth be told, that was a nickname for HER that didn’t even originate with the fans! It came from someone who actually had the honor of working with her. Like I said, and I’ll say it again: DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

I think of a “Vocal Bible” as someone who impacts the way other singers perform for decades to come. Think Whitney in the 80s-90s. She made an impact on female singers that still holds today – belting, precise enunciation, perfectly sustained final notes.
Beyonce is the most culturally significant artist of the past 10 years, but her singing style isn’t influential in the way Whitney’s was.
My vote is that there is no “Vocal Bible” right now.

The comments just show that people lack musical knowledge, diversity and an array of artists. The fact that people say that Beyonce is any kinda of vocal anything after the scream/shoutfest that was love on top i have no idea. Actually, the 4 album was just a bunch of (some) decent songs that some chick with a distinctly average but controlled voice shouting over it.
People have also mentioned Leona Lewis who is technically very good but vocally void of any emotion and dull as dishwater, so as far as i’m concerned she’s lost half of the battle.
Jennifer Hudson, although she has emotion and soul, everything is the same volume, pitch and range ….
Amy, Adele although great singers/artists primarily they mimic/put on a voice to sing as apposed to having a natural singing voice, the same as Joss Stone is also a very good singer.
I’m surprised that no-one has mentioned Lauryn Hill or Lalah Hathaway, Michael Speaks (check out i specialize remix) There are so many established and underrated singers that get dont get shine due to the media saturating the market with the “usual”
Oh, people also need to read what the whistle note is, there are people on here that say their favourite artists do but but they dont.

This post is just a mess. Vocal Bible is Brandy‘s title. Sure alot of the ladies mentioned can sing great but having a unique tone that is unmistakable is very important. Sure Beyonce isn‘t the greatest vocalist but she is phenomenal with the voice she has. What sets her apart is her ability to keep pitch perfect vocals while dancing just as hard on stage. That is something non of the others listed could ever do.

To be honest i dont think that Beyonce sings live at her concerts. An example, when she fell down the stairs she got up so quick and continued singing and i think this was due to a pre recorded track. No one would’ve been mad at Beyonce for taking time out to compose and catch her breath after such a spectacular fall, but she continued as if she was afraid to be found out. I’m not saying that Beyonce doesn’t scream and shout…. i’m sorry, i meant sing live, but with the dancing all the time i’m not convinced.

Then youve never been to a real Beyonce concert then. You sitting your ass on youtube doesnt count as you witnessing her live. Ive been to every tour and she most certainly sings live. The problem with you and most people is that its so hard ofr u to believe that someone can jut be that good at what they do. Its so hard for you to believe someone can actually sound amazing despite what physical circumstance are going on, i.e. dancing, falling or what hae you. Thats why Beyonce is the Beyonce she is. She has that God-given talent which makes her apart from the rest. Michael had his God-given talent, Whitney had hers, Beyonce has hers. People act like Gpod stopped giving out out-of-this-world talents after Mariah Carey. Like he just said, “Ok Im done, thats the last one.” NO.. each generation will have that one that is able to just blow us away. Beyonce, among maybe one or two more, have that.

If this was the year 2005 or 2006 around the time Bey was finishing up her work with Destiny’s child and building her solo career, I would say Beyonce. The way she sang with such a great mixture of soul and elegance on the Destiny Fulfilled album was amazing. She had so much control in her voice and you could distinguish the dynamics in her voice. Her voice on the Destiny Fulfilled and lovin It Tour was outstanding. I love Beyonce and I love her latest album, 4, but she does oversing in her music now. She doesnt sing in a way that builds up to a climax. I love her performances and her runs. She still sings with soul but in terms of vocally, I wouldnt call her the vocal bible now. I love Brandy’s harmonies and she has so much control n her voice. There was a time when she sang too soft but now her voice is really rich and her tone is the business. Her voice has grown so much and I love to hear her voice when I watch her live performances.

I have heard many so called non-singers perform a song with such feeling that the so-called vocalists can’t convey.

^ So true, people often only factor in the range a singer has. I don’t think people that overlook Brandy’s skill notice all of her abilities. Brandy’s versatility (‘Sweet Nothing’s') , harmonies( ‘A Capella Something’s Missing’), vocal swiftness ( ‘Thought You Said’ – Diddy FT Brandy), Edge ( ‘List’), Runs (‘Another Day in Paradise’ FT Ray J), vocal tones/texture ( ‘Hardly Breathing’) precision (‘ Locked in love’) is outstanding. She masters everything in the singers’ guide from A – Z. That’s what it’s really about if your judging!

I don’t even know what a “Vocal Bible” is supposed to mean. I’ve heard Brandy referred to that. Seems like she’s the only one who has been really labeled with that specific title (sort of like how MJB gets called the Queen of Hip Hop Soul.) So whatever, let her have it then. But truth be told, I have never been especially enthralled with Brandy’s singing. I find her voice raspy, choppy, mumbly, too low, and when she does go higher she strains. There’s just not a lot of clarity with her and I also don’t always hear a lot of confidence in her singing. She seemed more vocally confident on her first album, but from her second album on up she’s been hit or miss.
A better question here would be who is the biggest vocal inspiration of this “generation.”
In my opinion to be in the league of a Celine, Patti, Whitney, Aretha…you need to have a CLEAR voice…you need to have CONTROL…you need to have RANGE…you need to have a certain amount of BASS and BROADNESS…of course, you need to be able to blow the roof off the joint when need be (but also you have to be able to sing as effectively calmly too)…you need to have ORIGINALITY and DISTINCTIVENESS so that people will know YOUR voice when they hear it…and finally you need to have had enough commercial success for masses of people to hail your voice as something incredible, for it to be considered iconic and to obviously inspire others (including wannabes and copycats.)
I don’t know who the “vocal inspiration” of this generation is. There are some good singers out, but truth be told I don’t see many of today’s “generation” singers as being vocally iconic and influential. Too many of the “good” singers today IMO are too overwhelmed by their idols (Christina, Jennifer, Leona) to the point where they fail at originality because they spend their entire career trying to BE them. Then you have people who start off with “just ok” or “just slightly above average” voices, who with time may get significantly better…but still never quite ascend to the top level of absolute vocal perfection or iconicness (Beyonce).
The sad thing is that the “generation” of industry moguls and music fans don’t appreciate superior vocalists, because all they want are cheesy pop songs that they can fist pump and queen out too…and so any idiot plucked off the streets who can’t sing a lick, but can be marketed through image and manipulation (Britney, Rihanna, Katy, Kesha) wind up becoming the defining acts of the day.

What? Brandy has strained ONCE in her whole career. This is during her song “Like this” where she loses tonal quality which honestly doesn’t mean that someone’s straining; it’s one of the three indicators that that a singer MIGHT be straining, but other than that, she belts from the mask, so she can’t strain. Brandy’s vocal type is a Lyric Coloratura Contralto or as some people like to say “Low Mezzo-Soprano”. Also, Brandy’s voice is resonant throughout her resgisters. Not a single note as of 2013 is not “in check”. Brandy was slaying vocally since she was 12 and if you watch her performance of Respect on the TV show thea, you’ll probably cry yourself to sleep thinking about that run she did during the end. Have several seats.

Ok so being as neutral as I can it goes
*) I love me some Brandy. True she has an incredible voice and has recorded some classic CD’s. However lately Brandy has been slacking. 2/11 was a fail with me because it lack substince and the individuality that I have seen her deliver. Her vocals are becoming too drowned puting her in the catergory with the less talented. like Kelley Rowland we know the ower is there but we can’t see it unless you show it.
*) Monica Her vocals gives me chill literally everytime I listen. However she can be a bit much some times with her runs. Still no denying this girl’s God Given Talent.
*) Bey I dont care what you say this girl has it all. A very nice voice with looks and entertainment too match. She may be a theif but you can’t say she doesn’t bring life to those songs and she hasn’t forgot her R&B roots. However her voice is very much learned sometimes lacking emotion.
*) Christina Awesome voice incredible voice….but she went off track somewhere after stripped. Now when you see her sometimes looking for her voice is like looking for her slimmer frame(Sorry True)
*) Jojo Lovely incredible voice. I don’t relly have anything negatives for jojo. She has a amazing voice.
*) Tamar had to insert her. A true Diva in every sense of the word. Incredible voice that Supercedes her sis Toni.
*)Tiffany Evans Vocalist in every sense of the word. A true force to be reckoned with. So underated. Vocals looks and has been taught some foot works from dance princess Ciara
Honarable mention: Deborah Cox Tamia Melania Fiona Chrisette Michele
The Best 3 from bottom to the top
3) Monica- vocal index a voice that is truly getting better with times. Her runs maybe over the top but are just right
2) Beyonce The Girl has it. If you wanna study growth look at her over the years love Monica and Brandy but this girl is the vocal index you can learn from because her voice was learned.
1) Tiffany Evans – may catch some slack but if promoted right she has got skills to take over. Barely 20. Catch her in the video below killing Beyonce Halo at age 18. Had to.

While I agree with people, Christina may have the best range and vocal capability.. I have to also consider consistency. Beyonce has a very nice range, and she may not be Whitney or Mariah, but essentially EVERYTIME Beyonce hits a stage its consistant she’s always on key, she always finds interesting runs and harmonies to add to the live experience. I have never once saw a Beyonce live performance that made me cringe or doubt the voice I heard on the cd. To put it simply, Christina (J. Hud & Fantasia included) may have the capability, but Beyonce has the follow though. I’d rather know I’m going to listen to a great performance, than be concerned that it might be a miss.

Chris Brown is this generations male vocal bible. His runs are ridiculous (Brandy taught him everything) and his voice has depth, range and versatility. He can sing really high and sometimes sound like a female, and then he goes super low and sexy. He can sing a European dance song, switch over to buble gum pop, turn around and sing the hook from an hip hop sing and then bounce onto an R&B ballad.
Having said that, will somone please post the video of India.Arie giving Brandy her props during an album release party? That will answer as to who the VB is.

My personal choice would have been Christina Aguilera but her live singing has not been it in recent few years so she fell down my list
. Consistency is important to me so top 5 are.
1: Brandy (has she ever flopped ? Not large range but slays)
2: Beyonce (very very consistent)
3: Pink (versatile)
4: Yolanda Adams (never fails for the lord)
5: Monica (Whitney tribute promoted her up my list plus poised with presence)
Leona should be on the list but her songs (well poor single choices) have made people sleep on her actual vocal talent and technique

Christina’s talent is unmatched for sure. She has the versatility, the power, and can riff and run in a matter of seconds. She makes good music. However, the timing, with the release of videos and songs isn’t on point. I think she needs to change management to savage her career and not have a lot of freedom to get back on top.

She is a certified flop who has overstayed her welcome hence 3 back to back flop eras. Beyonce would slay her vocally live like monica does everytime. Just like christina who isnt even in full voice would. Jazmine would the last goes on. Every era you all act like she is this respected vet and in reality she really hasnt mattered since 2002. Thats 13 years ago. Stop living in the past. The only way 2/11 will see gold is if someone drops their copy in a jewlery distribution center and it fell into a pot of it.

Why is Chistina up here? Her technique is horrible. Great styling and sound, which I enjoy, but it’s not healthy. I like candy that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. I thought that vocal bibles are supposed to have remarkable healthy technique. Putting pressure on your vocal chords to change your sound is not healthy technique and let’s not get started on her frequent strain. The only people who should be on this list are Brandy, Monica and Beyonce, especially Brandy. Monica less than the other two, but definitely a candidate. What makes it so sad, is that if Christina actually took some vocal lessons, worked hard and sang in her REAL voice, she’d SLAY both Beyonce and Brandy and this is coming from a beyhive and a star.

Why are so many people throwing around the word “pitchy” when referring to certain singers? Do you know what that means? It means they are either singing sharp or flat. According to you they do this a lot…I honestly can’t say I have heard any of these singers sing off pitch. Maybe I haven’t listened to them as often as some.

Really TGJ………….Brandy—the control this women has with her voice and the way she does things with it is….. amazing!!!!! she knows how to stay within her limits and gives you every emotion.. even when she is giving u a snippit of someone’s song, she puts her own spin on it……LOVE HER
beyonce– is the ultimate performer (that’s all) as a singer she is okay. now that she is opening up more i am starting to become a fan.
jennifer hudson–like someone stated early in this post….she can sing, but after a while she becomes boring and she sings like any other church singer.
Fantasia–the things she does with her voice are amazing but when she starts to do all that howling i feel like i need to start running (in fear)
that is all….everyone have a great day

OK, I’m going through this list and 2 people that are mentioned frequently are 2 people I don’t think can sing that well. Christina and Beyonce. Vocally those two are average at best.

Go to youtube and search……..BEYONCE sweet dreams medley or resentment I AM… YOURS (intimate performance),or glastonbury,in fact ANY B performance of ms.Knowles, and you will witness the king (yeah that’s right its not queen B anymore, its king B of music OK).I like sweet dreams medley coz she displays a lot of vocal stunts there it just made me buy the I am… Yours and I am… World tour,a night with beyonce, and roseland DVD/CD sets and the I am… Yours and all 1+1 performances prove why she is THE vocal bible.Anybody who denies this fact is just in denial,as for brandy…she would be numba 2,she definitely can sing but her range does not match beyonce’s,as for christina she has range but her technique does not qualify as anything that is supposed to be followed by ANYONE,vocal fries are just not good she is overdoing it and it all collectively sounds like a lot of noise,BUT I still love her albums (studio) work so I would place her on third place, and monica can sing but she has nothing distinct…unlike the other 3 I’ve listed she has no signature singing style.Under 40 men I would go for Trey Songz the man can sing, besides his music being repetitive and oversexualised,he has range, unique technique and if you are not musically deaf, you’ll realise that he is not anything like Rkelly OK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Search unplugged performance and download READY TO MAKE LOVE,soothing vibrato oh just the voice makes you fall in love,he is the vocal bible .next #2 is MARIO yep that RnB singer he is not doing as well as he should be for some reason but guy can sing, just search for any of his music And I tie him to usher (climax performance).#3 miguel now I don’t even need to explain anything about him its just…. Obvious he deserves a run for the title.remember these are popular singers I’m talking about….otherwise if we go really technical you wouldn’t recognise some of the singer and I wonder are MAXWELL and josh groban under 40? If they are they qualify.ne-yo…average……chris brown…no no no (only studio I love his music and of cause my idol rihanna ims still comin 2 ya).I know one day ill name rihanna the best singer in the world and MEAN IT.She has potential and she is vocally improving rapidly and occasionally but she has the most distinct voice and tone + accent from ANY singer in the world,(no rita is not caribean she is british albanian she won’t sound like rihanna OK).so for 2013…female VB-BEYONCE and male VB-TREY SONGZ. IN the future female VB-RIHANNA and male-we’ll just see.keep in mind being an artist is not having the biggest voice,it’s having A voice and finding an artistic, distinct and creative way of using it. #done

I’ve seen those and she is not a great vocalist, but a mediocre singer. She is average at best.

Honestly, I dont know why Brandy was ever given that title. She does have incredible runs and an impeccable unique tone, but that is about it. I really havent gotten into Brandy’s vocals until Two Eleven. She is amazing live as well in the studio but “Vocal bible”? i just dont see it. I hate to compare, and as debatable as it is, i think Beyonce would be more suited for that title if anything. Sure she might “scream” a note here or there, as most “listeners” claim, but if you really dissect her voice, its really perfect in a sense. Her tone, her range, and most importantly her control, something alot of vocalists this generation seem to lack. And with each project/album , she seems to learn and try new things with her voice and she shows growth consistently. From Dangerously In Love, to Listen, to Halo, to I Care. You can see and hear how much her voice has developed. Especially in I Care, those acrobatics she does with the guitar is something not many people have heard or can do. This is far from a Bey stan just defending her because Im a stan. This is a stan validating why I am a stan of Beyonces. And this is also a music listener recognizing great vocals when I hear them.

BullshYYYT! Brandy would totally sing the fuck out of all of Beyonce’s song! And sound way better and draw and audience in to the lyrics! Beyonce is a great entertainer as well not taking anything from her! But don’t try and take away from what Brandy has shown the industry as a child sanging with the Best of them……”Missing You” the Set it Off soundtrack……Brandy is just getting back on the scene with support and a great team now, and making her own choices, be sure to tune into BET Feb 13, I heard she was the best Perfomance of the night!!!!!Brandy is the vocal bible true the term is because her vocals are studied. I know I sing and I don’t like to scream and make stupid sounds! I like for my tone to be good and my runs to be clean! I learned that from Brandy and Luther! Brandy is it…. & while I am her why is Christina in the led, she screams like she’s caught in a hurricane or tornado…….
