From The Vault: Whitney Houston – ‘Run To You’

Published: Sunday 10th Feb 2013 by Joe

February 11th 2012

Sadly, this date will stay a crucial one, not only for the music industry alone but the world at large. For, that fateful day last February saw the silencing of iconic songbird Whitney Houston – aged just 48.

Although it is still incredibly difficult to come to terms with the tragic loss, we dedicate this week’s From The Vault to the most impressive vocalist in recent memory and arguably of all-time.

The haunting ‘Run To You’ from 1992’s monumental ‘Bodyguard OST’ is a vocal tour de force and stands as an ever-enduring  masterpiece as well as a masterclass for any and every singer that followed. Its accompanying video beams iconic shots of an angelic Houston “running to us” in an immaculate setting – shots, in light of recent events, make for emotional viewing.

As words could not describe the immensity of her talent and statistics could not measure the enormity of reach, we figured it be best to let the music speak for itself.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston, we thank you for sharing your God-given talent with us. You will forever be The Voice. Rest In Peace.

      First, you pathetic for trying to turn this into some sort of stan war. No one but Whitney can do herself justice.

  2. YES February 10, 2013

    i love whitney and i love this song, but she angers me somewhat.

    I feel she had such incredible talent but squandered it and I know drugs arent something you can take lightly but she never really hit her peak again after ‘the bodyguard’ and I will always love you. That was her greatest moment and she never tried to top it.

    I mean….she followed up with ‘the preachers wife’. cmon now!

  3. JUELZ February 10, 2013

    I absolutely adore this song!!!

    “Run to You, I Have Nothing, Didnt We Almost Have It All, I Will Always Love you and You Give Good Love”, in my opinion, are five hardest songs to sing in Pop music.

    R.I.P WHITNEY!!!

    • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 10, 2013

      No, they aren’t the hardest to sing. Its impossible to imitate her passion, interpretation, conviction and dedication.

      • JUELZ February 10, 2013

    Is it possible to feel that its not true? I cannot believe its been a year since she departed from this Earth.

    The Bodyguard era is one of the most iconic eras of all time for both male and females. What makes this soundtrack one of the best isn’t because of the vocal technique of the songs nor is it because of the composition or lyrics of these songs, its her delivery and interpretation.

    Whitney’s interpretation, delivery, and arrangements of any song is unchallenged by any other vocalist in history (other than maybe Aretha or Stevie Wonder). There is a reason why Whitney’s “The Voice” and not say Mariah or Celine because of her sheer power to turn any song (whether written by her or not) into her own song. She has the unique ability to make you FEEL these songs no matter how cheesy they are (IWALY).

    Herr enidition of the Star spangled banner is still imitated by many to this day! Her delivery of a simple song into an epic performance still has its impacts today 22+ years later. We are STILL talking about it. One of Whitney’s performance’s shits on some people’s careers.

    • JUELZ February 10, 2013

      WOW.

      Can you believe the amount of ‘dislikes’ you are recieving for speaking in positivity of Whitney?

      What is wrong with people? …On this site in particular?

      *Sigh*

      • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 10, 2013

        They can’t handle Whitney or her talent.

    • JOHNVIDAL February 10, 2013

      Amazing comment! Totally agree. It´s the truth. I often refer to Whitney as the best LIVE vocalist ever. And it´s for that reason (it´s her delivery, well among other things) only that you said it with the right words, my English is not competent enough. Yaaaaaassss to your comment. She is just epic and legendary. Turned everything into gold and emotion

      • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 10, 2013

        You said it perfectly enough lol.

        “Turned everything into gold and emotion” Simply and perfectly put. Her voice remains unchallenged and so does she, most people fail to understand the true power of Whitney. Nothing could’ve stopped her you know, only she was able to stop herself.

  10. JOHNVIDAL February 10, 2013

    Complete slayage. It doesn´t get any better than this. The Voice. There´s a reason The Bodyguard era is the biggest era for a female singer in pop music history
    For the people talking about peaks… are you serious? The amazing thing is that she reached The Bodyguard era after several years of impressive success since the 80´s. For any other artist the peak would have been her first two albums, she broke many true records with those ones and her popularity and reputation was bigger than almost anybody else in the 80´s already. So to become bigger than that in 1992-1994 with the Bodyguard era is just… ICON. That´s the moment when someone really becomes an icon/ legend or whatever you want to put it and on a worldwide scale. Not seen anybody after 2000 reaching that status. I´m serious. These kids don´t know what they are talking about

    • JUELZ February 10, 2013

      @John…

      And this comment, truest in all forms, received so many dislikes because…?

      • Floridaevans February 10, 2013

        This comment is spot on!

        Nothing but +s are acceptable. Otherwise, you’re dealing with delusions, denials, and a sheer lack of knowledge of pop music history.

  11. Music Soul Harmony February 10, 2013

    One of the best voices in pop music. I love this song. So much passion and power in her voice. RIP WH.

  12. ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 10, 2013

    I cannot believe that on a post that is dedicated to celebrate the one and only Nippy on her 1st anniversary of passion, people are still spreading ignorance.

    What’s the point of trolling on a post to celebrate someone’s life?

    Whitney =/= Mariah
    Whitney =/= Christina 😆 😆 😆
    Whitney =/= Celine
    Whitney =/= Jennifer Hudson

    The disrespect to Whitney.
