Watch: Toni Braxton Officially Announces Retirement

Published: Saturday 9th Feb 2013 by Rashad

‘Unbreak My Heart’ hitmaker Toni Braxton is certain to leave a trail of broken hearts with official news of her departure from the music scene.

Indeed, a 20+ year career that’s seen her atop many-a-chart with industry award decoration to match is coming to an end per her announcement on ‘Wendy’ this week.

The past few days have seen her tease the idea, but now  you can watch as Braxton breaks the news (and reasons behind it) below:

Start at 2:05

While we are eased with news that the songstress will still be touring and sharing those oft-praised contralto vocals, we can’t help but be disappointed at the thought of no new releases from her.

Here’s hoping the “love affair” between Toni and music reignites in the coming year and things turn around.  Otherwise, we’ll definitely still be here at TGJ HQ rocking out to her greatest hits….*presses PLAY on ‘Seven Whole Days’*

I wish she wouldn’t leave! I love her and her music so much! She along with other artists like Brandy & Mary J. Blige are what R&B is really about!

As much as it pains me to say this but i love toni’s voice BUT she is very arrogant and to much of a diva… god dont like ugly! some of these b****** need to humble themselves ,also i believe that female artist in the music industry have an expiration date, after 35 or 40 years old nobody is checkin for them anymore, people want the younger and more original artist.. just my opinion.

    • Stacey Robinson February 9, 2013

Even though it your opinion you sound like a delusional fool. I am glad you said God don’t like ugly because you need to get yourself together before you criticize others. BTW you should have said you are not checking for 35 or 40 years old singers, but a lot of others are, because we are not here for popularity but quality and uniqueness which Toni brings to the industry.

If people still want younger why did a Madonna preformance still outdo a “younger” at the superbowl

If you’re a recording artist and you don’t feel anything for the songs you hear from other artists, make the kind of music that YOU love. It doesn’t do any good to blame other people for not loving a gift that’s inside yourself.

    • janet1814 February 9, 2013

Couldn’t agree more. That’s what Brandy did!

    • Stacey Robinson February 9, 2013

She is not blaming others, she said in an interview she is not feeling it right at this moment and she tries listening to others and she is still not feeling it. I give her some time, because she is truly gifted and does sings from the heart.

Yeah like any of these new or this generations artist
From the years 2000-2013 are nothing but carbon copys of the real
Authentic originals from the years 1950’s-2000’s where at that time
Music, Voice, and Raw Entertainment really mattered it’s sad now days
With today’s you can actually count on your fingers who can sang, Entertainment,or do both. It’s very sad how music just sunk so low in today’s generation.

Now another topic Toni could also be retire not just because of the music industry
But for her on going health issues as well, dealing with Lupus ETC.

      Great comment

  8. NEW KID IN HERE February 9, 2013

Wow!!! My mom loved this women when I was a kid, lol I have home videos of mom singing her trcks 2 mi!!.. Then I grew up n my friendz n I were obsessed with Libra from trippin to please, loved em all!!

But I don’t expect my lil sister to follow suit, there are rihannas, katys, adeles ect for her to like so it makes sense for tony to retire even though she looks n sound younger than the kids on top of the charts rigth now!!

    @ Vanny,

Original? Did you just say the younger artists are more original?

Anyway, i am preparing myself for Christina to announce her retirement from recording. I had such high hopes for her this time around but once again she fell off and she has herself to blame. It seems her personal life is far more important to her these days than givong her fans what they want. She has lost a great deal of her fanbase in the recent years and at this point its going to.take God himself to revive her career and me as a fan.

“It seems her personal life is far more important to her these days than givong her fans what they want.”

AS IT SHOULD BE. Wouldn’t you rather Christina have a happy, healthy, personal life and relations that commercial success?

I know I’d rather all my faves be happy and never make music again instead of making music when they are unhappy and no longer in passion for it (i.e. Xtina’s situation).

  10. Cookie – Rihanna – Toni Braxton February 9, 2013

    She’ll be back, no worries!

  11. REALTALKBSWALK February 9, 2013

Damn shes been struggling, she worn the red of the bottoms of her shoes

    • Dana February 9, 2013

You clearly don’t or have never owned a pair. Walk on the road for a few meters and the red comes off.

  12. Maestro J February 9, 2013

I think Toni is retiring because if she signs to a label they’re going to expect her to tour extensively. She won’t be able to sell albums without touring. Touring causes her Lupus to flare. So I believe its safe to say she’s thinking about her health. Because if its simply song choices I’ll write her whole next album and gurantee her at least 1 more #1 hit.

  13. Peter G February 9, 2013

She really f***** up her face! Anyway Mariah should be next

    • Peter G February 9, 2013

      Jk!

    • ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 9, 2013

She’s isn’t going to stop until she feels she’s done with music (which she isn’t going to feel for a long time because music is her passion and salvation), but nice try 🙄

Ageism is never okay. SMH the problems people have.

  14. ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 9, 2013

Whatever makes Toni happy, makes me happy as well. I hope she regains her passion for her craft again but until then she can do her thing and venture out and explore her other interests. She may never gain that passion back but I think its the best choice for her as of right now because there is nothing worse that an artits still making music when they don’t have any passion for it.

I’ll support you Toni in whatever you do. ♥ Plus we’ll be okay, I mean this woman gave us Secrets, Heat, Pulse, Libra, and Toni Braxton. She’ll forever have a place in music for her contribution and her haunting voice.

  15. Sterling Infinity February 9, 2013

I’m praying 4 her. She is a true musician!

  16. irateninja February 9, 2013

No Toni!!! I’ve been listening to Toni since i was a kid! My mom had the Secrets album and everything! Well i love you and wish you the best of luck, But just know some of your songs have helped me through bad situations and cheered me up!!!! and a lot of your songs will play at my wedding if i ever get married! :*

    XoXO
    A Huge Fan!!!

  17. Glicious February 10, 2013

Ugh the haters! Have we not learned anything about appreciating the few talents we have left!?! Half of y’all before Whitney died was saying she’s a washed up crack head but then turn around like she’s the greatest voice of all time lmao! We still need the Tonis and Mariah’s ….cause we stuck with Cassie’s and Rihanna’s …. That ain’t no real music!!!!!

  18. antertain February 10, 2013

She has a great body of work so its all good.
2bad she didn’t maximize the coins she should of had.

    Still beautiful looks

  19. the face of baby February 12, 2013

since there are 10 zillion singers too many around already, why is this news? It’s like saying there will now be slightly less sand at the beach.
