Justin Timberlake has developed quite the knack for exceeding expectations.
Dominating headlines in the last week by way of sales predictions generated by new album ‘The 20/20 Experience’, the ‘Black Snake Moan‘ actor is set to be the center of all attention next week then these sales finally roll through.
Sales, that are now predicted to be closer to the 900,000 units sold spot.

Set to swipe the highest selling debut week spot from Mumford And Son’s ‘Babel (621,000 units)’, ’20/20′ is now on course to move between 850,000- 900,000 copies, according to our friends over at Hits Daily Double.
In doing so, he will nab the fifth highest debut digits of the decade and give SONY Music their fourth record breaking first week number since 2010, no doubt marking a proud moment for the thriving label.

Now, was it Justin Timberlake’s race alone that got him this feat-of course not (look at Robin Thicke)- but did it give him an advantage over his competition- yes the f*** it did. That advantage coupled with his hard work and clever marketing produced these sales. Trust, had any other RnB artist released the same catalogue as Justin, they wouldn’t have sold a 1/4th of these #’s, and that speaks volumes.
While it’s true that if a black artist put out this average swagger jackin’ s*** they wouldn’t sell anywhere near those numbers, Justin’s success this time around is due to three key factors:
1) Justin has a solid fan base that stuck with him since his N’Sync days.
2) Justin is in his 30’s now so he really can’t afford to be doing teeny bopper pop. This album gives the appearance of growth and maturity and the fans are eating it up.
3) It’s been a long time since his last album came out so people have been anticipating his return. Justin is benefiting from the pent up demand.
I predict he wont have any breakout hits with this album and his sales are just a flash in the pan. Within a few months no one will care and the people who bought his album wont even play it any more.

Trust me, I’m far from pressed. I’m not that much of a fan of Usher’s so you don’t have to steer me. I would say that I like Usher’s music just as much as I do JT’s. Still, it has nothing to do with my opinions (which isn’t coming from an emotional place). It’s just simple observation. Besides, if I’d had to choose I’d pick being pressed over delusional any day (if you want to ignore certain factors, you have every right to, but you would actually be the latter).
Sales doesn’t make an artist better than others, don’t worry about that, honestly i could care less about how many records has my fav. sold (Madonna), i don’t care at all, what i care about her is her artistry and her performances, it has always been about the music for me, nothign else. Yes, making great music takes precedence over everything (sales, awards, critical acclaim). I was the first to say that this album won’t match the sales of FutureSex…this is more a US thing, ww people are more interesting in Dance-Pop music and that’s another reason why Lady Gaga’s Born this Way is considered a flop, that album is Dance-Pop + she’s a bigger star than Justin and still a new artist, Justin comeback after 7 years and this kind of sales are impressive, that’s huge.
I just think this is too much. The album is great, at least part of it, but not to the point it deserves to do 900,000 copies. 500,000 would have been amazing and more reasonable imo. Specially when I see many outstanding albums flopping everywhere

I’m tired of seeing Usher’s name brought up on every article about Justin Timberlake. One has nothing to do with the other. Point blank: JT has a better, more effective team than Usher. Whose music you think is better, who you think is more talent or deserving, is conjecture and totally irrelevant. The bottom line is that JT played the hell out of his hand and is reaping the benefit. Usher and his team fumbled, made mistakes and were lazy, and as a result he saw poor numbers.
Sure, things like race play a factor — but guess what, the world isn’t more racist today than it was in 2000-2006, when Usher was outselling JT. And as far as black people not supporting their artist goes, that’s a bunch of bull too. Did all the black people who made it their business to buy My Way/8701/Confessions 10-15 years ago suddenly die off? I don’t think so. Because guess what, I have all three of those CDs, but don’t have Raymond vs. Raymond or Looking 4 Myself. Why, you ask? Because frankly I didn’t want them. Usher’s music isn’t as good as it used to be, IMO, and so he’s not compelling me to buy it anymore. It’s really that simple. I don’t want “Scream” or “Climax.” I’m totally disinterested in Usher’s attempts at R&B and Electro/Dance fusion; and as long as he continues to do that, I’ll continue to not buy his music. But, hey, it’s not just about me…maybe others could have appreciated it more, if he bothered to promote as hard as he used to. I think some of these veteran acts think that because they’ve paid their dues and made their mark that they shouldn’t have to break their backs promoting like they did while they were coming up.
Don’t get pissed at JT’s continuing success because Usher’s music has become unmotivating and because his team are acting like amateurs when it comes to promoting him. The same goes for all the acts who’re struggling in today’s market. You better lace up your boots, be prepared to work and hire a media shark with enough pull to barter, kiss ass, manipulate, and/or threaten on your behalf.
The whole race card is ridiculous when all the best selling artists apart from Taylor, pink, Justin, Adele and 1D are BLACK or brown Beyonce , Rihanna, Alicia, Nicki, Bruno ,Will.i.am, Jay Z, Drake and more the race card is a joke. Sales-wise, Rihanna, Nicki & Beyonce are pretty average compared to the other people you named.
Usher DID stick to his R&B roots with his follow-up album, “Here I Stand,” which didn’t do NEARLY as well as “Confessions” (sold 2 million+). That album was filled with mostly boring love music dedicated to his wife & kids…..and the fans were NOT here for it (later causing him to DIVORCE his wife smh). It was also slammed by the critics for being “too safe,” and “not innovative enough”. Soooooooooo what did yall expect him to do? He always stuck with his R&B roots, but added a trendy pop sound to it. It’s like he’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t.
His next album “Raymond vs. Raymond” produced two of my fave Usher songs… “There Goes My Baby”(CLASSIC) and “OMG”…but that album ALSO underperformed (selling only 1.3 million).
Hopefully his next album will be more organic & classic Usher-esque. He’s one of the best male vocalists out there right now, so I’m here for it….
Well Here I Stand sold more than Looking 4 Myself. What did he get out of going the “trendy” route. That just made things worse. HIS underperformed because it was boring, and not as ear popping as the albums before it. The solution wasn’t to go pop, it was to create a better R&B album.
Well he did get one of the biggest singles of his career…. “OMG”. And like I said…Usher NEVER went straight pop like Ne-Yo. He released a few pop songs here and there, but his albums were mainly R&B with some pop undertones. Just not so much the sultry R&B that we came to love him for….
And yes, like I previously stated….I hope and PRAY that his next album takes us back to the OLD Usher.

Beyonce’s recent music (from her last album, and apparently this upcoming one) sounds like s*** because she’s alienated most of the songwriters and producers out there, and they won’t give her their best work anymore.
Beyonce doesn’t write or produce songs. She’s notorious for strong-arming songwriters/producers into sharing their credits/royalties with her. This happens a lot in the industry. What makes beyonce worst than any other entertainer who does this is that beyonce (rather than keeping her mouth shut and collecting the royalty checks) will do interviews and lie/brag that she conceived of/created the song all alone. It’s bad enough to give up major portions of your royalties to some celebrity who did no work on the song. It’s even worse to have that celeb publicly pretend that you weren’t even involved in creating the song you wrote/produced.
The songwriters/producers just got tired of her. They’ll still work with her/sell her their music to her (a sell is a sell; a job is a job), but they save their best work for other people. Why give beyonce the best song you ever wrote, take a pittance in royalties, and have her lie about the credits in interviews? Instead, you can give bey some s*** song you didn’t think that you’d ever sell to anyone, and if her fan base makes it a hit, that’s gravy. If not…you didn’t think you’d ever sell the song anyway. You can save your best work for someone with the sense not to try and screw you over.

His promotion was PERFECT for 2013. People have a short attention span now, so stuff really needs to move quickly when it comes to releasing singles and videos (especially releasing the second single early for buzz, then releasing the video on the album drop date).
Combine that with the surprise feature of Jay-Z and the fact that no one even knew the album was coming (which generated a lot of instant buzz) then you have a hit. He probably didnt spend too much on production of the album too since he worked only with Timbo (Tim probably will make his money on the back end after sales)…he probably put all his label money into promoting . He’s a smart businessman when it comes to how an album should be handled. People really need to take notes on what was done with this project, then maybe everyone could sell a little more…

Takes a half dozen listens before it begins to sound “OK”. This cd is better for cabaret/jazz club crowd not billboard top 100 pop. The video with Jay Z is better than the track itself.
