I was kinda disappointed in the sales of Eve’s album…I was expecting it chart at least 25 on the Billboards with 15-20,000 units. SWV’s new album was released on an indie label E1 and it sold 18,000 the first week and charted at 25, and keep in mind they been gone 15 years. Don’t be hard on Eve’s sales because this project was released on Eve’s independent label and she had to pay for all the promotional stuff herself which is not easy to do without a major label support. The other problem is she waited too long to promote the record & took a week off for that Gumball event which affected the album as well. Same thing happened to LL Cool J’s new album was released on a indie label E1 with no music video support for two of its singles and charted at 23 with 14,000 units sold with no promotion, but at least he is touring now to support the project and Eve should do the same thing. 8,500 is not great but sales can always go up. The good thing about being on an independent label is that you’re not being being told what to do like a major label does, indie labels you get more freedom & control of what you want to do. Major labels look at Indie labels because majors always look to sign indie artists to major labels or sometimes they can buy their contracts out. Plus if your album tanks then you will not be required to buy back all the money that you owe to the label like majors.
