Ciara’s ‘Body Party’ Heads To Chart Glory / Moves 20,000 Units In A Week

Published: Wednesday 29th May 2013 by David

After spending the last few years being overlooked by the casual listener, it seems Contemporary R&B is finally reaping the fruits of its Frank Ocean fueled labor.

For, thanks to the public’s renewed interest in the genre and a well executed push by her label ‘EPIC‘, Ciara‘s ‘Body Party‘ has found itself on its way to the chart heavens…selling 20,000 units in the last week.

In the last week, the R&B slow jam moved an impressive 20,479 units digitally pushing its combined sales to 142,422.

Outselling Alicia Keys‘Girl On Fire’ and Kelly Clarkson‘s ‘People Like Us‘ in the last seven days, the song’s meteoric digital rise sees it soar on the back of paid for downloads, and not free streams-which now count to overall chart positions.

The best about it’s ascent? The fact that it’s being generated by casual listeners and not die hard Ciara or R&B fans.

For, as stats pulled on a number of contemporaries prove, R&B singles targeted at R&B audiences alone never fare as well as ‘Party‘ has, and that the genre can only really soar when its promo is tailored for a wider audience.

Congratulations Cici!

Frank Ocean had NOTHING to do with the uprising of RnB. HEll, RnB aint back. Its still a mess. S*** music wont help the genre return to its former glory

    • eqvilim May 29, 2013

#PREACH. It is sad when the only music making any waves these days are COPIED (I don’t even say sampled, as they are stealing full instrumentals, lyrics and choruses now) from hit singles. Chris brown stole swv’s sound for a hit single, ciara is doing it, so many do it now a days, and besides rihanna/beyonce/adelle, that is really the only way most of them are charting.

Please don’t say besides Beyoncé, when u thow she’s one of the entertainment business biggest thiefs.

This statement alone: “the song’s meteoric digital rise”…
Are u serious? I´m glad for her and I congratulate her and her fans on TGJ if these sales are better than her previous singles. I really do. But how can you write a post like this as if this were total slayage (comparing it to Girl on Fire??? released like 9 months ago? lol) and then you write some other biased posts making it seem like some other artists singles are being outsold by your faves when they are selling way more than them?

    • FAF May 29, 2013

Girl on fire isn’t R&B it was a hip hop song

y’all need to learn your genres on TGJ

      • lol May 29, 2013

girl on fire is an r&b song. hip hop consist of an artist rapping or rap singing. this song was straight r&b so i think you need to learn your genre

        @OOPS

  4. Alex May 29, 2013

Kudos to Ciara for the success of ‘Body Party’…..but Sam, are you REALLY going to compare it with Girl On Fire?! A track that was released SEPTEMBER in 2012! Plus, Kelly Clarkson’s ‘People Like Us’ has been available to download since November last year too from the Greatest Hits album…you can’t exactly call it a an accomplishment when Ciara is only just outselling releases from last year…but well done to her, nonetheless.

  5. mildred May 29, 2013

Well congrats ciare! But if my fav make such sale I will not be impresses but I guess this is more than ciare fans can hope for. It is a great sale for her level. Congrat ciara for selling more than eve lip lock. Impressive for your level. Lol

  13. queenB-rules May 29, 2013

Lest be real, the song is good, but its being overrated by this post…

  14. FAF May 29, 2013

What about Girl on Fire (the Nicki version) sounds like R&B to y’all? Thats CLEARLY hip-hop. listen to the beat, pls

Anyway, congrats, Ci ppl like to laugh & count certain songs out while they quietly slay. A slow 90s based R&B track selling 150k in 2mos will surely go gold in 5-6 and outshine some of these *cough* popular songs about strippers & h***.. & to think Ci hasn’t even performed it live, yet

    • truth(icki’s B**** ASS STANS can EAT ME honey!! Yall b**** is a STANK P**** FLOP chile! (puckers lips like Drake)) May 29, 2013

girl were u BORN this stupid?? Girl On Fire is an R&B song with a hip pop artist featured!! a hip hop song would be rapping with singn as a hook. this is reversed you dumb h**! but then again i shouldn’t expect YOU to know music when you a Nicki stan

  15. unnami May 29, 2013

that funny comparing for example to Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore which moves over 300,000 this week, or their Thrift Shop which still moves more in one week than her overall sales.

  16. Carpe Diem. May 29, 2013

    Happy B’Day Mel B!

  17. Chillin May 29, 2013

  20. the real xoxo May 29, 2013

TGJ you better stan for Mel B! that song made missy elliott the first female mc to ever get a #1 in the UK.

  21. Summers in Toronto May 29, 2013

Good for her and her wacky stans lol.

  22. Sleazy May 29, 2013

Let’s Not forget the song is #7 on urban radio and almost top 20 on rhythmic it leaped back to 51 last week on the hot 100!!!!! All with no performance!!!! Since it debut it has not left the top 60 on the hot 100 we talking R&B not you generic pop and dance single #Proud

  23. TeamBreezy May 29, 2013

This s*** is a joke, TGJ would never praise such mediocre sales for another artist, “Tailored to a wider audience” is code for R&B turned pop, just like Rihanna … only thing is if Ri sold 20k in a week TGJ would have her ass dragged for filth

  24. The detail May 29, 2013

Damn why can’t people let her have something she’s done nothing wrong and so what if girl on fire came out last year the point is, that it’s still playing like it was released yesterday people really aggrivate me always trying to pick out everything negative damn the girl is doing extremely well

  25. Ashton May 29, 2013

But GOF has sold 2 million worldwide. Ciara will never.

  26. Navy Sailor May 29, 2013

Cute sales! Congrats to her! 🙂

  27. Rosie May 29, 2013

LOL. Meanwhile my fave’s current single sold almost 100k last week.

    Cierror is always flopping!

  33. POP ROYALTY (Bohemian Grove) May 29, 2013

I expected more tbh , her singles are selling as fast as a worm, but i guess that is what’s up with R&B without radio deals.

but i’m so happy for her regardless , she promoted it so well.

    Now where’s “overdose” b**** ?

  34. the best dancer May 29, 2013

pretty good for someone that hasnt done any live performances of the song ….

and is too lazy to tour for her fans.

Best performer of her generation but she STAY losing b/c of her lack of work ethic….

Rihanna not a great performer but she works hard…. that why she STAY winning

  35. BREYONCE May 29, 2013

YALL KEEP USING THIS R&B EXCUSE, BUT FRANK OCEAN AND MIGUEL GOT PLATINUM SINGLES. ROBIN THICKES NEW R&B TRACK WITH TI IS AT 700K ALREADY. EVEN FANTASIA IS SELLING. PEOPLE JUST DON’T F*** WITH CIARA SHES WASHED UP
