It’s been a long time coming, but change is finally nigh for J. Cole’s sophomore set, ‘Born Sinner’.
Delayed in earnest, the ‘Power Trip’ led project was recently pencilled in for a June 25th release date. However, the Roc Nation star has not only unwrapped the album’s cover(s), he has announced a new arrival date – the same as Kanye West‘s ‘Yeezus’ and Kelly Rowland‘s ‘Talk A Good Game’.

June 18th is the project’s new due date and, whether intentional or otherwise, Cole has ensured it’s now one of Urban music’s most action packed days at retail this year. Perhaps all three LP’s will benefit from having the visibility of being stacked next to one another. Then again, we are in a recession and we’re not sure the days of buying three albums at once is a reality the average shopper still counts as part of their present-day reality.
In any case, we digress…
Of the album’s covers; the standard (above) depicts what appears to be the gates to heaven, while the deluxe below juxtaposes the a dark devil with a pure white background.
Messages, messages, messages, we just hope both the actual album delivers and is backed in a way that sees him finally garner the attention he deserves.

If I had to chose between the two, I would choose Cole’s without hesitation. But he’s so underrated right now that he needs all the exposure that he can get. Almost every award show, MC Hottest list etc. is sleeping on him. Going up against a music veteran who’s in his same genre will only take away from him, especially when that music veteran is expected to drop his best album in years.
Dang Kelly in that HEAT! But it’s all about longevity, garnering new fans, and providing a great album which I know both Kanye and Cole will do. Something tells me at least 1 of the 3 will move their album date. But if not my predictions are:
1) Kanye: 433,000 copies first week
2) J. Cole 166,000 copies first week
3) Kelly Rowland 109,000 copies first week

I’m listening to Mariah’s debut album. #loveit. But anyway, THERE’S GOT TO BE AWAY for Kelly to come out on top this time. She’s so talented and i’d hate to see her go VANISHING on the charts. SOMEDAY, hopefully, she’ll get the recognition she deserves and not just be seen as the other girl from Destiny’s Child.
