Pepsi Scrap Lil Wayne Endorsement Over Emmett Till Lyric

Published: Saturday 4th May 2013 by David

It’s over.

In response to a lyrical remark made by Rapper Lil Wayne regarding the racially motivated murder of Emmet Till, Pepsi Co has cut ties with the MC.

Details below…

In his verse in the remix to Future’s ‘Karate Chop‘, the 30 year old lyricist surprised fans when he spawned the following line:

‘“Beat that pu**y up like Emmett Till’.

Upon catching wind of the initial outrage generated by the line, Wayne had it removed from the song and issued an apology to the deceased’s family, to which they billed unimpressive- considering it was only issued after murmurings of it affecting his corporate dealings.

In a statement released by Till’s cousin Airickca Gordon-Taylor, the following explained:

“I was not impressed. I think that he’s kind of been pressured or he’s been admonished to make a statement to the family because of the ongoing negative publicity and attention and the pressure we’ve put onto his endorsement with Mountain Dew.”

Now, as to cleanse themselves of the controversial dirt, Pepsi– who own Dew- have terminated the endorsement deal with Wayne, revealing:

“His offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”

Not sure why Pepsi have taken such drastic measures?

Peep the video and weigh in below…

Did Wayne deserved to be dropped?

“His offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”

So as long as he promotes drugs, s** and murder he’s fine and “reflects the value of our brand”, but as soon as he says something bad about a dead kid he doesn’t?

Now, what Wayne said was wrong, but c’mon. If he hadn’t said the things about Emmit Till and instead rapped his usual drugs, s** and murder, he would still have a deal. This is why I hate corporations, because they only gain a consciences when they are about to lose money.

There’s no excuse for what he said about E.T. Period. People need to STOP with the “IF” “BUT”. It’s their choice to have him on there with that stuff. There’s a difference because this of COURSE was going to make headlines. No one gives a sh!t about drugs, s**, and etc so stop even trying to defend that ignorant dumb dumb for his comments.

Lil Wayne is an idiot and he deserves to lose the endorsement.

On a side note, that video was pretty offensive in turning a matter of racism and violence into to a discussion about abortion. Trying to equate the two is beyond stupid. Should we then try equate an aborted fetus with victims in a car crash or accidents in the workplace?

Shame on him and shame on them for signing him in the first place. Having kids left right and center but spend most of your time in the studio or chasing loose whores.

Justice! That’ll teach these ignorant fools to make jokes out of serious issues.

  8. MariahIsMusic1 May 4, 2013

Lil Wayne is Whack. I don’t even listen to his music

Pepsi do not need anytype of negative attention right now because their gamble with beyonce did not pay off so they cannot afford to allienate consumers. I’m glad that the public are finally realising that they have a voice and they can force big corporations to act responsible as well as our entertainers.

    Wayne. . . Wayne . . . Wayne.

I Think It’s Time For Him To Retire, No Shade At ALL.
But He Had A Good Run, & Based On His Album Sales He’s Not As Popular
As He Use To. Also All These Seizures He’s Been Having Lately Isn’t Good. He Needs To Relax, Stop Smoking, Settle Down & Retire. Honestly.

The ‘uneducated’ will always remain ‘uneducated’.

    It’s as simple as that.

What Lil Wayne did was in VERY bad taste, and converted a historically ‘sensitive’ subject into a form of ‘entertainment’, therefore deserves all the vilification that comes his way. In my opinion… But I don’t think they should hold him, against his will, forever though.

  12. RG2 May 4, 2013

ANYONE WHO SUPPORTS THOSE LYRICS ARE FOOLS, JUST LIKE HE IS FOR THINKING IT WAS OKAY TO PUT THEM INTO A SONG. THE EMMET TILL CASE IS NOT TO BE REFERENCED OR PARODIED IN ANY FORM. THIS CASE SERVED AS A DEVASTATING BLOW WITHIN CIVIL RIGHTS AND THE BLACK COMMUNITY. AS A BLCK MAN I FIND HIS ACTIONS DISGRACEFUL.

    • Common Sense May 4, 2013

I find Lil’ Wayne having a record contract disgraceful to the music industry PERIOD.

WHat does abortion have to do with the death of Emitt??? That made no damn sense at all…Pepsi is trif because they were willing to deal with wayne drug using, over sexual, degrading ways to women before all of this controversy! Damn pepsi is taking a big L lately first the beyonce boycott, and now the little Wayne fiasco! Well damn that sucks * sips coke*….

    • truth(i will draaag the F*** outta icki and her stans) May 4, 2013

      Beyonce boycott???

  14. truth(i will draaag the F*** outta icki and her stans) May 4, 2013

    Thats what his ass get!!

  15. Tisha May 4, 2013

I blame Pepsi on this one, same with the Tyler the Creator/Mountain Dew issue.

You can’t pick controversial people who have never hidden who they are, who have always been bold and many times crude and use them to shill your product. Then when they stay true to themselves and it backfires on you you act confused like Lil Wayne was Will Smith circa ’99. Same with MGK and Microsoft.

If you pick musicians like this then stop acting stupid, pick some sugar-coated idiot and call it a day.

  16. DIGGER BEY THE KING May 4, 2013

Lol @ These Miserable No Life C*nts, who just have to bring KING B name n this. Lil Wayne is just doing to much. He knew damn well that wasn’t going to sit well with people who fought hard for Civil Rights. His dumb ass is sleeping around with all kinds of women and is black. Well Emitt tried to holla @ an white woman and ended up dead. That’s not something to put n or reference to, n no damn song. Learn some damn sense. Them damn drugs got his ass so damn delusional and blind. I don’t blame the family for not accepting his apolylying.
