Will.I.Am On New Britney Spears Album: ‘I Don’t Want To Let Her Down’

Published: Thursday 16th May 2013 by David

As the producer enlisted to craft her eighth studio album, the pressure is on Will.I.Am to create nothing short of a groundbreaking album for Pop icon Britney Spears.

Of course, while there are some who were hoping Darkchild would be tasked with the project, this week saw the ‘Check It Out’ Rapper share details on the release that may force many a doubter to reconsider their stance.

Details below…

Speaking to Billboard, he shared:

“We start next week. Before we even start we’ve had these juicy sessions, where we’ve been bonding, building the trust and comfort. I’ve never worked like this before – not even the Peas.”

I wanted to just go to lunch for two months, which is totally different from how you typically do it. I said, ‘Let’s talk about what you’re excited about. Let’s talk about things you’ve done in you career, what you’re happy about.

Let’s talk about spending time with your kids, let’s talk about your breakup. Let’s talk about how now you’re single, how independent you might feel.’ We started talking about all that stuff. So I said, ‘do you mind if I write this down? I don’t mean to impose but I want to interview you. I need this to create a filter.’

“When people start bringing us stuff, I can say ‘Actually we can’t have this song. Yes, we want dance songs but that’s a little too dark.’ I want it to fit with the emotions. I’m really excited about that and honored that she trusts me. I don’t want to let her down. I just want to do it the way a brand would do it. They wouldn’t say, ‘Take this. Put it out.’ That’s not what you would do. You’d come up with a mood board, the logos, the font, all the other stuff.”

With a fan base that truly cares about the material she releases, there’s no doubt Will will have critical hell to pay if this album sounds anything like the soulless/non-descript material he’s been releasing of late.

As anyone who really who followed Britney’s career can attest to, ‘Blackout’ is hailed as her best album to date because of the attention to detail paid to its melody, production and most of all…her R&B kissed vocal arrangements.

As much as most of the world will try to deny it, Britney does make for a nice vocalist when armed with the writers and producers…but sounds all shades of generic when her voice is doused in autotune, stripped of harmonies and supported by ‘Guetta 101’ production.

Here’s hoping for everyone’s sake that Will gets it right and uses the below as inspiration.

Sonically speaking, if it’s an update to the ‘Dance/R&B’ sound that made her ‘Britney & In the Zone’ era’s so ICONIC, well, then…

    I couldn’t give a f***.

I love her but I REFUSE to invest in another vapid and generic ‘Dance/EDM’ Britney album. Seriously…

What is she trying? The best selling female artist of our generation, one of the highest grossing tours among pop girls. Britney inspired most of them, from Ke$ha to Lady GaGa and your fav said that she’s a fan of Britney Spears and that she likes her album from 2007, Blackout. They like and respect each other, you should do it too.
