J.Cole To Outsell Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ In Shock Sales Twist

Published: Thursday 27th Jun 2013 by David

No more than a week has passed since Kanye West topped the Billboard 200 with his new album ‘Yeezus’.

However, in what pens a startling chapter in his J.Cole featured sales story, he’s set to be outsold by the ‘Crooked Smiler‘ in the week to come.

Details below…

Tonight, next week’s Billboard 200 sales predictions were published- seeing Wale’s third studio album ‘The Gifted’ placed at #1 with predicted sales of 140,000 to 150,000 units.

However, it’s J.Cole who has the most to smile about today, as sales of his new LP ‘Born Sinner’ are set to come in at the 95,000 mark- selling more units in that week than ‘Yeezus‘ which will shift between 70,000 to 75,000 units.

Reaping the rewards from the hype its #2 debut scored it this week, ‘Sinner’s second week numbers are set to see audiences continue to show their support for the album, while paying less attention to the polarising ‘Yeezus’.

*Wale (Atlantic) 140-150k
J. Cole (Roc Nation/Columbia) 90-95k
Kanye West (Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/IDJ) 70-75k
*Skillet (Atlantic) 50-55k
Daft Punk (Columbia) 30-35k
Florida Georgia Line (Republic Nashville) 27-30k
Black Sabbath (Republic) 27-30k
*August Burns Red (Solidstate) 24-27k
Kelly Rowland (Motown) 24-27k
Mac Miller (Rostrum) 23-26k
India.Arie (Def Jam/IDJ) 23-26k
Imagine Dragons (Kidinakorner/Interscope) 22-25k
Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 21-24k
Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 20-23k
Hunter Hayes (Atlantic) 20-23k
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Macklemore) 19-22k
Darius Rucker (Capitol Nashville) 19-22k

Once these new sales come in, the ‘Power Trip‘ led project will stand more than 100,000 units away from Gold status, and only has to sell 50,000 units each week for the next two weeks to achieve that feat within its first month.

Our congratulations also extend to ‘Street Life’ stunner Kelly Rowland, whose new LP ‘Talk A Good Game‘ will hold a Top Ten spot for a second week and Bruno Mars…whose 2012 LP ‘Unorthodox Jukebox‘ continues to rock the Top 15 even seven months after its December 6th release!

I didn’t like “yeezus” at all , but we all tend to forget the fact it has no lead single out till today…. selling off his name alone.. that is PURE slayage.

    just giving him his credits.

I had a feeling J. Cole would surprise in some way! His album is so much better than Kanye’s. Kanye thinks he’s so superior to everyone and everything; refusing to release an album artwork, his lack of work ethic by only recording 10 songs for the album…J.Cole put so much effort into this record. He deserves the success. Kudos to my fav Kelly Rowland too, 24-27K will push her to the 100K sales mark in week 2 which is still formidable. She just needs to keep pushing Talk A Good Game now! Gold certification is definitely on the cards for her! Congrats again to Cole and Kelly!

I wouldn’t say that Kanye thinks hes better than anyone. He’s at the point in his career where he can do as he pleases. Ten years and six albums in. He’s already made it. J. Cole is a newbie. He’s still hungry. Just like Kanye was when he released LATE REGISTRATION, even though he was doing his own thing back then too. Lets hope that J Cole will be around, and consistent for ten years.

      • NΛVI June 27, 2013

no he thinks he’s better than everyone even Jesus himself.

    • Teenash June 28, 2013

He did almost 20 songs for this project but Rick Rubin advised him to cut it down. Check out Rubin’s interview!

      • Alex June 28, 2013

Kelly recorded 70 songs for this album…

  4. DaHotNig June 27, 2013

Chiiii I need TGJ to stop it on these slow news days! Holy s*** y’all need a break chi!

  5. Rosie June 27, 2013

I think the real kii is the fact that J. Cole is being out against an album that had no singles, no album art, and no promo whatsoever. Born Sinner had all of that + one of the biggest Urban songs of the year. But good for him, I think the album itself was a vast improvement over Cole World.

    • NΛVI June 27, 2013

shut the f*** up, the fact that you’re trying to downplay hiis success shows how bitter you are. j.cole is in a different compare to the like of kanye, jay z, nas, eminem etc. the simply fact that he’s outselling kanye in his second week shows that GP dosen’t and music lovers don’t share your foolish opinions 😉 how’s mac buger album doing..didn’t he score more than cole on metacrtic as you like to put it….. *sips tea* it’s a shame that crtics opinions such as yours dosen’t dosn’t translate in sales cause mac burger would of sell 50k in his first if it was up to you with delusional a***.. born sinner > and you will just have seethe and stay pressed! *plays crooked smile*

  6. king z June 27, 2013

are we really gon congratulate cole when yeezy had virtually no promo or singles and is still slaying? numbers dont tell the full story

    • Navy Sailor June 27, 2013

      People want Kanye to lose!

      • royalkev June 27, 2013

Indeed they do! It’s getting a little desperate now. We’ve seen J.Cole do everything for shock value from moving up his release date to having Drake publicly support and purchase about 100 cds of his. Kanye did the complete opposite to win and he still earned his 6th straight #1 album. I’m not mad Cole will be #1, but he should be after his relentless campaigning.

    • TruthTeller June 27, 2013

He just had a child with a famewhore.
He projected a video on a bunch of buildings…followed by him going on SNL and performing two new songs
Not to mention being on KUWTK
Add in his usual rants and fuckery, and….VOILA! PROMO!
That’s his way of getting people talking, “interested”, etc.
Haven’t you caught on by now?

      • royalkev June 27, 2013

So I guess not releasing an actual single or having any cover art was just another complicated way for Kanye to sell himself again huh? I’m sure this genius way of advertising will produce many blank album covers in the future… Imo, none of Ye’s actions seem consistent enough to make a solid argument accusing him of scheming to build hype. The casual fan won’t even be able to find his album in stores without being puzzled for 5 minutes.

      • TruthTeller June 27, 2013

Well, pretty much. The “lack-of” certainly got everyones attention…and with no tracklisting, he left most with no choice but to go out and buy it, as opposed to trying to illegally download. Was it a clever move? By all means YES. But, im not blind nor stupid. Kanye is a very smart man and with every album he has a very intricate promotional campaign. This album is no different. Yes, his plan was genius, but at the same time, it’s expected…coming from him. Get what I mean?

  7. TeamBreezy June 27, 2013

I love Born Sinner! Some faves include “She Knows” and “forbidden fruit” with Kendrick lamar ..Congrats to Bruno as well

  8. TruthTeller June 27, 2013

    Stanning for numbers….
I see the TGJ agenda is still intact.
However, it can’t be denied that J. Cole’s new album is dope and he deserves the acclaim surrounding it.

  9. JARED (WHITE DUDE) June 27, 2013

    Congratulations…

However, these are quite disappointing second week sales on Kanye’s behalf.

The ‘Albums Market’ could very well be DEAD.

    SMH.

    🙁

    • steph June 27, 2013

Good! Who the f*** still buys albums? When you can get everything online FOR FREE

    • Mark111 June 27, 2013

I still buy some albums. But let’s face it, 99 cents gets you what you want and like Vs taking a chance of not liking at $9.99.

  10. Common Sense June 27, 2013

A result of tainting one’s brand with the Kardashian’s perhaps?

  11. Lovebird June 27, 2013

I love Yeezus, it’s way ahead of its time. Glad Hip Hop is doing so well.

  12. Tisha June 27, 2013

Good for J.Cole, 2nd week sales are usually a barometer of how good an album truly was.

  13. Team Tasia June 27, 2013

Kanye has always been known to push the envelope, while J. Cole is a traditional rapper (he puts me in the mind of a 90’s rapper). Like someone said, Kanye is an established BRAND, while J. Cole is still on the come-up. Both of them are well deserving of success. I applaud Kanye for always keeping his artistry interesting, and J. Cole for keeping it strictly hip hop with great storytelling and wordplay! 🙂

  14. YeIsUs June 27, 2013

Lol you can’t mess with Yeezus. Apart from all the behind the scenery. Yeezus is really on a level. Musically for me its a master piece. Its out of this world. The message behind it is unreal. Born sinner is a great rap album. The production Is nice iVilluminate I on point!! But you download born sinner for free. Aand I buy a Yeezus album. Not because of the brand nah. Kanye Wet is the better artist.

  15. Loyalty June 27, 2013

Congrats to J Cole but Kanye is still a natural born seller regardless. The fact he did that with NO lead single. I mean damn. Some people cant achieve much more than those numbers with a #1 ww lead single to boot.

    • Loyalty June 27, 2013

      those first week numbers*

  16. Angela Wesley June 27, 2013

I knew that Kelly ‘s album sales would improve.
She just needs to keep on promoting her album
on shows like GMA and Katie Couric. That
    performance was amazing. Congratulation
to J Cole even though I am not a fan of rap,
his album is much better than Yeezus.

  17. Mk June 27, 2013

Curiosity of now knowing what the album is about is a NEW BRAND NEW HIGH MARKETING FOR ESTABLISHED ACTS LIKE KANYE AND JAY-Z

  18. Mk June 27, 2013

And kudos to j cole and ms. Kelly for good second week sales. I hope their albums continue to sell

  19. Patrick June 27, 2013

That is because no one can stand Kanye anymore, and with Kim K, he is a bigger joke than ever. His album honestly sucks too, so I would rethink the name “Yeezus” and go with “Floptard” or something more suited for him.

  20. yooooooooo (keristan) June 28, 2013

OH MY GOD india arie’s sales should be WAAAAYYY MORE!!! HER ALBUM IS AMZING!!!!!!! people really need real music in their live. smh. i think im just disappointed

  21. kds June 29, 2013

KANYE LOST HIS STREET CRED’S, ESPECIALLY IN THE HOODS OF CHICAGO! NOBODY’S CHECKING FOR HIM IN THE STREETS BUT FREAKS, H***, & FAKE PPL. HE’S OUT OF TOUCH. THAT’S WHY THE NEW STREET HERO IS J COLE.

  22. Sherrelle July 3, 2013

    J. Cole’s CD is slamming, and it should have won.

  23. mildred July 11, 2013

    Great for them
