Set to storm the Billboard 200 at #2, ‘Ciara‘ will impact the charts with between 55,000 to 65,000 units sold- marking the highest selling R&B debut of the week, fighting off competition from the aforementioned J.Cole and outperforming Kanye West‘s ‘Yeezus’ in that week.
Of course, while many were hoping the album would come in between the 80-100k range, everything has to be put into context when addressing the figure she will bring in.
For, by way of a well executed campaign launched by Epic Records and Lisa Ellis, the performer has scored a Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hit with ‘Body Party’…an undeniably unashamed R&B cut.
With this in mind, and her perceived stock as a live act back in tact, we can’t wait to see where the album’s Pop singles take the album’s sales once they’re flung into action, and if the LP’s current success on the UK’s digital charts encourages Sony to up their global push for it!
At this point, much like the man set to top the chart, Ciara has developed quite a habit of exceeding expectations and will no do just do that as her journey with this project continues!

Youre comparing pop artist at the tail end of their careers, and new pop artist just breaking through to high profile, highly promoted R&B veterans who also had the advantage of huge urban radio smash hits! The fact that Ciara, Brandy, Kelly Rowland, Mary J Blige, Chrisette Michelle ,Fantasia or any R&B artist you chose to mention cant put up decent first week numbers while smashing Urban Radio says it all. There simply is NO R and B artist (who doesnt dabble in pop or dance music) that sells more than 300k over the life of the project. Jennifer Hudson on TV all day long in commercials and she can’t sell an urban album. Even Beyonce’s 4 turned out to be the least commercially relevant album of her career.

I didn’t expect anything spectacular, maybe 80-90K. It’s just odd seeing the same 65K (on the nose), 68K, 69K popping up for every artists (for what seems to have been going on for about the last year). These sales seem to always be in that small bracket. You don’t often find such similar numbers with Rap, Country and Pop artists: Kanye (350K), Jay (575K), Pink (281K), Justin (968K), Taylor Swift (1.2M)….
