Report: Kelly Rowland Readying ‘Talk A Good A Good Game’ Re-Release

Published: Saturday 17th Aug 2013 by Sam

Kelly Rowland has been rather quiet of late, hasn’t she?

Having signed on as a judge on The X Factor USA, the natural assumption is that her “hiatus” was being used to film the FOX hit – which returns to TV screens next month. However, with new album ‘Talk A Good Game’ still a “fresh release” and in need of a push, many were left scratching their heads as to why Ms. Kelly has seemingly disappeared from the spotlight.

Well, it appears they may indeed be a method to the madness.

Full story after the jump…

Speaking to our friends over at Kempire Daily, songwriter and frequent Rowland collaborator Lonny Bereal dropped a number of interesting soundbites. Case, point….

“I vocal produced over half of the [Talk a Good Game] project and we wrote two songs that may be on the re-release that I wrote with Kelly and Jado. She’s back in the studio, even today, back in the studio creating new music”.

**********************

This, quite literally, sounds like music to our ears — if true. On a number of fronts.

Let’s not sugar-coat anything; ‘Talk’ clearly needs a spark a retail – something an X Factor assisted re-release will definitely help.

What’s more, and on somewhat of a random note; despite being the most sonically cohesive effort from Kelly’s solo catalogue, the original album committed one cardinal sin — having no uptempo. We’re in a recession and there is literally research to attest to the fact that most listeners want music that is light, bright, and danceable – especially from “performer” acts. And make no mistake, Kelly is an amazingly gifted performer (hello BET Awards 2011). Hence, we’re not sure why more material to showcase this wasn’t included. Needless to say, we hope this oversight is addressed on the reported re-issue.

Anyway, enough of our rambling…

Your thoughts?

Randomness: Nicki Minaj just followed Kelly on Twitter. Hmm.

she wants 2 flops in one year???

    -_-

    bye kelly!

    • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

      kelly stans attack in 3…2….1…

      • rowland stone August 17, 2013

        you ain’t worthy…

    • Anne August 17, 2013

I think Kelly is an RnB artist at heart, not dance or pop, so she made the kind of music that she really wants to record. However, I don’t think her career is at the point where she can afford to just record what she wants without considering what it takes to establish commercial success. She has considered commercial appeal a priority in the past by recording pop or dance songs and she still did not garner a lot of commercial success. I think it’s just not meant to be for some people. Not that she should give up because she is still doing what she loves and you never know what could happen. But for those who are waiting for Kelly to make it big on a platinum level, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

  2. Daniel Teflon August 17, 2013

I already purchased her Album & I’m very excited she is in a good place in her life!! Tired of everyone try’n to compare her to Beyoncé & Tenitra They all have different sounds & I feel its all worth it in the end!!go Kelendria!!

  3. Mother August 17, 2013

Really? No shade to Kelly cause I like her, but the album flopped the first time round and WILL flop the second time. Good luck though girl, you sure need it.

  4. Alex August 17, 2013

I absolutely love ‘Talk A Good Game’ just the way it is…but for international audiences, it definitely needs a spike of Pop/Dance and it looks like it’s going to happen! YEEEEES!

  5. King August 17, 2013

FLOOOP I still love you kelly but FLOPPP

  6. Rih Stan August 17, 2013

Now… I really did love Talk A Good Game, but Kelly why release a Re-release when YOU and YOUR team isn’t promote it?
I’m really upset that I purchased the album and you didn’t even promote, Don’t get me wrong it is a good album but Kelly I expect you to CARE about your music and tbh you don’t seem like it, A person like ciara would be lucky to be in your shoes.

    • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

ciara would never want to be in kellys shoes, she enjoys getting hits on billboard….and dont bring up album sales cause kelly has only sold 30k more.

      • thetruth August 17, 2013

        @ Rosies

Out of all the r&b girls out right now Kelly has the most potential to be the next breakout r&b super star. 30k copies of an album is a big deal… stop tryn to down play tht.. Ciara had 2 billboard hits n can’t do better… girl bye!

        @RIH STAN

I am so sick of ppl and the #rowlandstones complaining about everything she does!!! If u r a fan or stan support her & have her back! She wouldn’t be re releasing if she or her label didn’t think it can help her!

      • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

you just proved that kelly is a flop!

you said she could be the next BREAKOUT star, shes been in the game for years and still hasnt made it on her own

      • thetruth August 17, 2013

        @ Rosies

Kelly made a comeback in 2011 with her 2X platinum hit Motivation that drew in an urban audience that she had never had since her DC days. It takes a big machine behind u to become very successful like Rih & Bey… she doesn’t have that YET. She is a super star in her own right (just as Ciara is) after all these years… she has the most potential out of all the r&b girls out today to get to where Bey & Rhi are now…

      • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

        point taken

    • myrl22 August 18, 2013

Same here. Im a fan to the Core n purchased the album at pre sale. IT IS ABSOLUTLY A BANGING RECORD. But no one is promoting… this is really sad. She shoulda tour with Beyoncé Imo. But regardless, im a fan till the nd.

  7. NikosFerg August 17, 2013

She Must Choose Her Singles Better,Album Is Full Of Hits!

  8. Navy nick August 17, 2013

This album is AMAZING., why re release???? Promote these hot songs NOW

  9. alessandro August 17, 2013

i dont buy album because it’s successful, i buy because it’s good. talk a good game is a good album, but it seems her team dont know how to push sales. anyways, i want new uptempo songs

  10. Jenny August 17, 2013

Why doesn’t she just promote talk a good game on x factor?! Its only been out for 2 months!

  11. thetruth August 17, 2013

This is GREAT NEWS!!! Kelly should definitely re release… she has a HUGE european backing in other countries. The re release will most likely cater to her fans that love her dance music such as When Love Takes Over, Commander, Down For Whatever etc.. those r just a few songs tht she is loved for over seas… B4 she became successful in the urban market here in the US she was selling out huge crowds over seas doing tht type of music. People is forgetting tht… r&b albums are not selling well these days… so the artists has to be creative & find ways 2 sell their work; she’s doing tht! Her album is saleing pretty good to me being that she is an r&b artist. She has sold almost 150,000 copies since the middle of June without any promotion. Watch all the other r&b girls start doing the samething… neways Xfactor will definitely help her out! But if Nicki & Kelly doing a song together I can’t wait to hear this s**t!

    • RIhanna is BIGGER THN BEYONCE EVER WAS August 17, 2013

SHE HAS NEVER been big in Europe, hence why she got booted from UK factor.

      • alessandro August 17, 2013

you need to do researches baby

      • thetruth August 17, 2013

Stop trying to down play Kelly’s success in Europe!!! As a stan I will not allow anyone to do that to her!!! That was part of the reason why she was asked to do Xfactor UK! She left the UK version of Xfactor to focus on new music which was TAGG album. If she was fired do you think Simon would have hired her back for the US version of the show??? Helll no! Stop being ignorant!

  12. alessandro August 17, 2013

why a re-release? she will use xfavtor audience to sell more records!!! good move. and perhaps she will add pop/dance songs to the album

  13. alessandro August 17, 2013

yes for kelly and nicki minaj collabo!
    cant wait to hear it

  14. RICHIE_RICH August 17, 2013

Girl promote TAGG…..Drop DOWN ON LOVE

  15. Lovebird (Roar – PRISM – 10.22.13)) August 17, 2013

People call Ciara a flop, but at least Ciara has got 1 multi platinum album to her name and a second platinum album. Kelly NowhereLand on the other hand was in one of the biggest fraudulent girl groups in the late 90s early 00s and yet not a single Platinum album to her name, that is the definition of “the struggle”.

Anyway if it doesn’t sound like “Here I am”, I.E featuring some dance tracks and an uptempo urban song like “I’m dat chick”, then I’m not here for it.

    • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

Exactly, Body part ig gonna be gold within the month, at 395k, whats kisseS down low and dirty laundry at?
      OH….

      • Sarah August 18, 2013

oh and furthermore..when Body Party succeeds the smash of Motivation then we can talk…and just to let you know..it wont ever…

    • Sarah August 18, 2013

Boo ..Simply deep went platinum in the UK and gold in 7 countries.2.5 million copies sold worldwide…get your facts together ..have a seat

  16. RIhanna is BIGGER THN BEYONCE EVER WAS August 17, 2013

Black women, teh dark skin black women, really do not know how to sell records anymore. WHY IS THIS FLOP HACK doing this.

  17. RIhanna is BIGGER THN BEYONCE EVER WAS August 17, 2013

SHE NEEDS TO QUIT MUISC AND CONCERTARE ON DOING XFACTOR, LOL LOL Paulina rubio is getting paid more than her on XFACTOR.

  18. rowland stone August 17, 2013

    🙂 *praise dancing*

  19. Mark111 August 17, 2013

Like the album and yes, it needed some up beats songs and some EDM, cause she was the first to do it in the States. I think she lefted off the uptempos cause she wanted to distance this album from Here I Am (her best work as a whole. )

  20. alessandro August 17, 2013

    simply deep IS PLATINUM

    • Lovebird (Roar – PRISM – 10.22.13)) August 17, 2013

      Nope, it’s GOLD

      • Johny August 18, 2013

        Right now it is PLATINUM

    • Sarah August 18, 2013

And sold 2.5 million copies worldwide

  21. alessandro August 17, 2013

BUT WHY PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPARE CIARA AND KELLY? I LOVE BOTH. THEY ARE FLOPS ACCORDING TO ”POP SINGERS” STANDARDS!!! BUT SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE WHO COMPALIN AND DONT SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC!!! THEY CHOSE TO ROOT FOR R&B, AND THIS TYPE OF MUSIC IS NOT MUCH APPRECIATED THESE DAYS!!!! TOO BAD

    • Lovebird (Roar – PRISM – 10.22.13)) August 17, 2013

But Ciara is better than Kelly.

      • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

        PREACH

      • thetruth August 17, 2013

        @LoveBird

The only thing Ciara can do better than Kelly is DANCE! Girl BYE!!! Dancing is not enough to save her stuggling career… even dating Future couldn’t save her. People will always take quality and substance music over popcorn music!

      • Your fave is a FLOP August 17, 2013

        In dancing? Yes. Singing? No.

      • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

but why is ciara still top 40 on billboard and top 5 on urban???

        where is kelly tho?

  22. J cole baby mama August 17, 2013

No one cares about this flop!!!

  23. Black kupid August 17, 2013

The album is dope and like sam said it lacked a hot uptempo song and the album has had issues of. Bad sonle choices as well as poor promo

  24. POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 17, 2013

She Is Lost, I’m so Sad Everytime i see her because she’s So Lost.

    • Cummy yummy August 17, 2013

      Get lost! B****!

  25. POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 17, 2013

And The Added Songs Better Be Criminal Dance Songs, Because TAGG is so …. umm… R&B.

  26. Lil’ Ellie August 17, 2013

Hopefully ‘Ice’ will appear on the re-release!

    • Iconic cici August 17, 2013

For what that s*** was a f****** flop

  27. Black kupid August 17, 2013

To the Idiot say she got kicked outta the Xfactor UK need to check their heads. She wanted a higher pay 4 the extra hours they wanted her to put in. And had to quit the show cos of she mad scheduke and b4 u guys start saying what schedule ur asses should remember that she has been the RnB go2 girl 4 the past 1 year, she is on a lot of urban records in the past year. She is still building her stock

  28. RICHIE_RICH August 17, 2013

Why must we always put OUR Black girls up against each other Bey Vs Ri, Kelly Vs Ciara ect. Just let them be great at what they do cause at the end of the day their ALL different.

I must say this go around Kelly TAGG was better musically than Ciara. It’s not that Ciara doesn’t have it, she just needs to bring it harder next go around.

Ciara fall back and re-group. Kelly promote your album cause it’s great babe IMO. DROP Down on Love:

    • #Roar August 17, 2013

Girl shut up! You stay shading Rihanna practice what you preach

      • RICHIE_RICH August 17, 2013

I do Shade Rihanna, we all no that. I only shade Ri due to the Navy trying to shade Bey.

  29. PYTFROMAL August 17, 2013

    The album is GREAT!

  30. i’m a white guy August 17, 2013

… the whites are mass money. guetta got her support. that was a good track. but see rihanna. her guetta mix is already over. i dunno wher dance got.

but short album listen. “freak” sounds kinda good sonically but the rest is deep r’n’b stylish (i don’t wanna say midi cheap sometimes) i don’t really know about.

    hazard.

  31. Iconic cici August 17, 2013

This b**** been in the game 15 years and still doesn’t have a platinum album shes the biggest waste of space in the industry

  32. Yolo August 17, 2013

I enjoyed the album. I think Kelly did pretty well with a straight up R&B album and limited promo.

    • rosies dissapointed mother August 17, 2013

      limited promo?

she went a tour for the album

      • Yolo August 17, 2013

Lets not act like it was anything huge.

  33. mr.m August 17, 2013

    Is this a joke?

  34. TRUTHKILLA August 17, 2013

Truth is Ciara fans for salty because Kelly been in the game over a decade slowly building her stocks, still very relevant today and in a better place than Ciara. Simply put Ciara fans are jealous of Kelly’s fame and which it was Ciara getting that fame.Thats the only reason someone would hate on Kelly.

    • Anne August 18, 2013

WAKE UP! Kelly hasn’t been a treat to anyone. Both she and Ciara seem to be spinning their wheels and I’m not sure how much longer their record companies will be willing to invest in them at all.

    • Anne August 18, 2013

Correction: I meant she hasn’t been a ‘threat’ to anyone.

      • alessandro August 19, 2013

these kids are crazy!!! why one singer would be a threat to others?
wake up!!!! it’s all about music tastes. unfortunately rnb are aprecciated by the majority.
name rnb singers that sell 500k these days! not many!
rihanna beyonce are not rnb acts, they’re more pop

  35. TRUTHKILLA August 17, 2013

I never see Kelly fans hating on Ciara, its always the lessers hating on their superior !

  36. channel_ROMAN August 17, 2013

WTF!? Why? TAGG is such a beautiful well put together album. and it has potential. Down On Love? You Change? This Is Love? Street Life? Number 1? C’mon kelly. I’ve been listening to these pop records from R&B and Rap folks for too long. I barely listen to it from Pop artist. I can’t with it anymore. I HATE Right Now. The worst song on the album. But w.e get those sales. Hope it’s not generic.

  37. FAF August 17, 2013

Girl just put out another single ! Re releases are for hold albums !

  38. FAF August 17, 2013

    *oops old

  39. Timago August 17, 2013

    SMELLY FLOPLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 17, 2013

I like kelly’s music but she’s pretty basic and doing nothing to put r&b back on the map….maybe that’s y she’s flopping. She’s too typical. But at least the urban community has her back.

  41. HOWYOULIKEIT August 17, 2013

there are uptempos on the albums: freak, kisses down low, gone, street life, skywalker.
But Kelly u just paid dust to dirty laundry. now u planned to release gone, AND now u’re crafting new music? wtf is that?

  42. Kisses Down Low August 17, 2013

Kelly do YOU girl! And look and the salty HeSheara fans because Kellys album is more successful than that trannys they cannot DEAL

  43. JER August 17, 2013

Why would you re-release an album no one was checking for in the first place. Re-releases are so out.

  44. Kyle August 17, 2013

It’s clear that Kelly and her team don’t know how to handle or promote an album properly. Why would they re-release this when there is already so many potential tracks on it that could be hits? The week after this album dropped, it’s like they just hung it up. Same thing happened with “Here I Am.” What the hell is going on?

  45. credits August 18, 2013

If anything, let’s just be happy that her team believes in her, because i really don’t see what the formula is for kelly rowland’s luke warm solo career in music. Now don’t get me wrong, she is a talented artist and i like her but she is just not buzzing…then again most of the female r&b acts right now are not doing much in the sales department. But there has to be a good reason why she has a label that backs her this much.
