Robin Thicke Makes History Again With ‘Blurred Lines’ As Song Notches 9th Week At #1

Published: Wednesday 7th Aug 2013 by Rashad

It just keeps getting better for ‘Magic’ maestro Robin Thicke.

Yes, after news that the Grammy-winning crooner earned his first #1 album and best first-week sales ever with his latest ‘Blurred Lines’, it appears its lead single/title track continues to dominate the singles charts as well.

Indeed, the T.I. and Pharrell-assisted track has not only notched its 9th week atop the Billboard Hot 100, but has now made history by breaking a record set by pop diva Mariah Carey in 2005…

Via Billboard:

“‘Lines’ leads Radio Songs for a fifth week, and surges 6% to 219.8 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS, a new record for the chart which launched in December 1990. That sum ends the seven-year audience rule of Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” which peaked with 212.2 million impressions on the chart dated July 9, 2005.

‘Lines’ [also] sets the record for most weeks with more than 400,000 downloads sold. The song also surpassed that sum in three successive chart frames (July 6-20), with a high of 424,000 in the first of those weeks. “

******

‘Lines’ has landed Thicke in the #2 spot of the ‘best-selling songs of 2013’ tally, second only to Macklemore‘s ‘Thrift Shop’.  At the rate it is going, however, it may very well be #1.  With highly anticipated new offerings coming by way of Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce, the year’s 4th quarter is shaping up to be quite the spectacle.

Ummmm people need to shut up about this whack song breaking Mariah’s record. Need I remind people that record was set in 2005. This is 2013 and the BDS radio panel has changed 3 times since then and added dozens of new stations. Again, the BDS panel has been reformatted 3 times since 2005. For those of you who still don’t GET IT, in 2008 the average song’s impression went up ~5 million. In 2010 another 5 million. And in 2011 after the last reformatting most songs went up another 15 million. So that’s about 20 million more each song is just handed now. On Mediabase alone songs have over 40 million more impressions than songs in similar positions used to have. Ch… I don’t see any records being broken, I just see Billboard “adjusting” things to give atists fake ass records. Get those hits, Billboard! I see you

Humans are HATEFUL. Yall don’t know not 1 of these celebrities but cursing each other out “on the internet” for somebody who f*** not 2 f**** about your existence. I mean this is a platform to voice your opinion about what u like but being just HATEFUL…smh. Whether u like the musician or not – these ppl (well some) work hard for whatever they get and not 1 of your f***** could do it like them…so why not just congratulate and move forward b/c really; they don’t even know you exist. And the constant put downs are getting old. Same ole ppl cursing out the same ole ppl – erryday!
