Jaden Smith: ‘If Everyone Dropped Out Of School. We’d Have A Much More Intelligent Society’

Published: Saturday 14th Sep 2013 by David

It’s ironic, if not unfortunate, that Brand Smith has turned the corner that it has.

For, while Will Smith has seen his career go from strength to strength on the back of his talent, genuine nature and ‘salt of the earth kinda guy’ positioning, the arrival of his children in the public eye have seen those admirable qualities overshadowed by ill advised attempts to turn them into household names.

While this haven’t taken away from the public’s love for ‘Big Willy‘, it’s clear that his ‘grounded’ persona doesn’t fall in line with that of his family’s…who seem anything but.

Not sure what we mean?

Well, meet us below to see what Jaden Smith- the grandson of a school administrator- had to say about education on Twitter last night.

Such a shame.

As long time fans of Will, we have to say that all of the above is pretty sad.

For, as anyone whose followed his career long enough will agree, the story of his from humble beginnings to deserved success are at times more appealing than the movies he stars in.

Unfortunate, as the lessons he oft shares about those humble beginnings seem to have fallen on deaf ears when it comes to his own children.

Sure, while everyone’s entitled to  their own opinion, there’s a lot to be said about anyone who downplays the value of traditional education and how it empowers people from all walks of life…especially those without the luxuries and security afforded to Jaden.

For, while it may  not always be obvious in the class room, school teaches students how to think- something we hope Jaden does the next time he tweets.

 Your thoughts?

  5. Xtina warrior September 14, 2013

    Uhm..

  6. ForThePeople September 14, 2013

To think I used to like Will.
I come a working class family and I saw how hard my grandparents and parents worked just to keep a house over our heads and to make sure my brothers and I could do our best at school and had the best start in life. This tweet struck a negative chord in me and actually made me sick.

    • TLCforLife September 14, 2013

This post has nothing to do with Will. Its JADEN’s opinion. Remember his age. Children rarely reflect the same opinions as their parents number one, number 2, he is still a teenager, with teenager thoughts and ideas. I don’t see why everyone is blowing it out of proportion. Some school systems do suck, but not from an adults point of view alone, but also as a child’s point of view. Everyone has had awesome teachers that made us want to learn, as well as some who didn’t. Its just an opinion by a child, nothing more.

  7. Molly September 14, 2013

Thanks for putting that out to your young fans you fool.

  8. JanetXone September 14, 2013

This article said everything I was thinking.

  9. TeenageDreamer September 14, 2013

I can’t even deal with the stupidity.

  10. Baduizm05 September 14, 2013

“For, while it may not always be obvious, school teaches students how to think”

And THIS is why I love this website.

  11. KissesForKelly September 14, 2013

I always wonder what Will’s parents think of them.

  12. YouKnowWhatsUp September 14, 2013

It’s crazy when you think about it.
So basically, Will works his b*** off so he can look after his family and does it cos he’s a grinder, only to have kids that are lazy because he grinded so hard. Cray.

    • channel_ROMAN September 14, 2013

His kids are far from lazy. They’ve put out music and clothing lines.

      • YouKnowWhatsUp September 14, 2013

Music and clothing lines that someone oversees. There is a difference between sitting down and picking out designs and actually starting and running a business with all the difficulties that brings.

  15. Yc18 September 14, 2013

Ill leave this one for the idiots.. He sounds like he already dropped out of school.. What an idiot! He comes from money and will always have money.. I hate rich n*****

    • HOVsHouse September 14, 2013

Don’t hate rich cats brother, hate the rich and stupid cats who don’t raise their kids right.

      • Third Ward Trill (aka quetta) September 14, 2013

That has nothing to do with it. You can try to bring up a child the way you want them to come out but they eventually start to think and do things on their own. An example would be katy perry. Her parents lived off the bible and wanted the same to happen to their children but did that happen? No. Katy first hit single was I kissed a girl. But does that mean they didn’t raise her the right way? No.

  16. VisionOfMimi September 14, 2013

We only tolerate them because they’re black and people don’t like to think of black celebs as being fake, but this family is very fake. What are they teaching these kids about life skills if this boy really thinks school isn’t important. So sad 2bh.

    • JER September 14, 2013

  20. Keyshia Del Rey September 14, 2013

You don’t even have to get As to get the most out of school you know. I know people who got Ds and Es who still hustled to get good jobs and now live comfortably because they have a diploma. School is VERY important.

  21. NWTS2409 September 14, 2013

  22. SisterSoul September 14, 2013

  23. S****** Blonde September 14, 2013

F*** School…..Oh those days, somehow i miss those days. I was every day with the principal, for my bad behavior, well, the days i went to school which usually was 3 days a week, but seriously all the things i learned, i did because i wanted, not because a teacher taught me, we should educate ourselves, nobody is a better teacher for you than yourself, in everything, school, life, you are your best friend, you are your best advisor, the majority of the kids go to school to learn nothing, (there is always the occasional nerd, forced to do your homework, though), teachers don’t want to educate like they once did, the easiest place to get drugs is school, teenage girls pregnant, college is so much better, just s**, alcohol and then a diploma, i don’t even remember the things they teach in high school, school should not be mandatory, should be to some extent until we can read, write ect, ect…The rest dare i say is a waste of time….Only worthy for the first kiss, f*** and your untouchable crush.

    • Anon September 14, 2013

Each to their own, but doing well in school has helped me to my parents out of the neighborhood we always wanted to leave into a much safer place.

I was bullied for being gay in school but I refused to let the bullies stop me from getting the most out of it, but everyone is different so I’m happy that you have done well without it.

      • S****** Blonde September 14, 2013

That’s because you wanted to be a much better person, must kids don’t care about it or don’t even think about future.

    • POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) September 14, 2013

Not Everyone is here for the Emo Life dear paul… No discussions needed, education is important, better yet essential for life, I can not imagine my life without it.

S** is a part of life, But Not all of the life as well. 😉

      • S****** Blonde September 14, 2013

Who is talking about Emos, i was never one of them, i’m talking about educate yourself, cuz nobody will do it better than you, no school, no your parents, create your own culture.

    • Tisha September 14, 2013

“The rest dare i say is a waste of time….Only worthy for the first kiss, f*** and your untouchable crush.”

That’s sad as hell. Out of curiosity what do you want to do with your life?

      • S****** Blonde September 14, 2013

I finish college long time ago, graduate in social communication (journalism), I gave my opinion in regards to school not education itself, which you can create yourself, I said you should create one culture yourself, they don’t teach that in school. I have met many people who have a Harvar diploma and are more ignorant than those who don’t have it, education starts at home and if there is not education there then you must educate yourself.

      • Tisha September 14, 2013

I’ll agree with you on creating education but I disagree that one can always just create that environment. Teaching isn’t just about facts and ABC’s. Subjects like philosophy, biology, physics can’t be taught unless you have the proper environment and tools to learn them.

I agree there are bad teachers but you can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, if not for that environment some of us our greatest minds wouldn’t have had the impact that they did. They needed to learn the basics and tools and that knowledge then had to be quantified in such a way that others could learn and build upon what they discovered.

I do think the education system needs to be updated slightly and evaluated to fit in more with our changing world.

    • AD September 17, 2013

Bravo at your brave comment. School is a holding pen for young minds and a place where genius goes to die. If it weren’t for a few good teachers in my path, I’d have NO good memories of school and about 90% of all that I know I learned OUTSIDE of a school.

  24. BeyLikeMe September 14, 2013

Just when we thought Will couldn’t get any less relatable.

  25. Tallb September 14, 2013

    how ignorant…

  26. Gilberto September 14, 2013

It’s easy to say that when your daddy is millionaire. But most of people need to WORK for living.

  27. TheTruth September 14, 2013

You guys do realise he’s only 14. He’s being like any 14 year old on the world nieve. Get over it.

    • ItsCheryl2bh September 14, 2013

I wasn’t a fool at 14. I was getting ready to take my GCSEs so sit down with that.

    • IndiasBrownEyes September 14, 2013

If he’s old enough to have a girlfriend, isn’t he old enough to be accountable for what he says?

  28. POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) September 14, 2013

I Really Know what he Means, But his way of voicing it Tricked him.

He Meant what 2pac said in his days that what they teach kids at school won’t be important in their lives and how we need a better education, U remember that ? @sam

But Ofc I’m not with what this kid is saying, education is just like water and air, essential for life.

    • ElectraMarina September 14, 2013

Well that depends on where you go to school. The UK has the best education system in the world so getting an education there is very helpful to later life.

      • POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) September 14, 2013

        Exactly.

But the Point: what they teach you ? will it benefit you as a person ? in your development as a human being ? that’s the point.

Education is great, but only when you use it to benefit others. 😉

  29. cake like lady gaga September 14, 2013

So true. Imagine had @ROSIE dropped out of school how intelligent he would be.

    • TIsForTamar September 14, 2013

Gaga fans are too busy being depressed to make it to class on time, so just stop.

    • Rosie September 14, 2013

You stay obsessed with me. Why? Is it because Summertime Sadness is ahead of Awfulause on the Hot 100 and is getting ready to outpeak it? Is it because I keep it classy while you and the rest of the Little Cutters give out blowjobs on the alleyway for single sales and it still couldn’t help Awfulause? Because every time you try to drag me i clock you and every other Cutter on this site?
Stay mad with you 2003 Dell Windows XP laptop and your McDonalds wifi.

It will do so in the US by the end of he month if radio keeps it up. It’s already ahead of it on Hot 100.

  30. CSquadTurntUp September 14, 2013

    Spoken like a true fool.

  31. channel_ROMAN September 14, 2013

Well he does have a point. A lot of people are ignorant to others because of their higher education. If everyone had the same level of education there would definitely be less problems. For a persons intelligence doesn’t necessarily come from what school they went to. The education system teaches you the same thing from pre K. It just gets harder and harder every year. Jaden needs to just elaborate and what he mean.

  32. Lucia September 14, 2013

Lmao he’s 14 and trying to sound more philosophical than he really is. He doesn’t know any better….give the child a break. The entire Smith clan is just weird. That’s all ill say about that. Everyone needs an education, yes…but you have to be balanced. You need book smarts, life skills and street smarts. A degree doesn’t guarantee you s*** in this world. It’s a cute piece of paper, but at the end of the day it’s all about marketing yourself.

  33. Mark111 September 14, 2013

The person that wrote this article needs to go back to school. Couldn’t even follow it, it was all over the place.

  34. Tisha September 14, 2013

Spoken like a typical ignorant rich kid. I guess he figures surgeons could just feel around and figure out how to save lives without the education.

  35. james September 14, 2013

Shame He Types Like This So This Is What School Taught Him.

  36. Rosie September 14, 2013

If Everyone Dropped Out Of School Would Everyone Start Typing Like This?

    • james September 14, 2013

It’s nice to see you copy my comment above, Rosie.

      • Rosie September 14, 2013

I wasn’t paying attention to your comment but whatever.

  37. aalexisr September 14, 2013

While I’m sure there are valid reasons behind writing this article, this is a very subjective topic and holds many a truth for those in varying circumstances. Not all school systems value the notion of teaching students to think for themselves. The majority of these institutions (or businesses as they are later classified) teach memorisation and regurgitation over critical thinking, questioning and testing of theories. That said, I assume the people responsible for this blog post have received an education to some degree. If that is the case, what is the excuse for so many careless errors in your ‘articles’? It has been happening in almost every story posted as of late.

Especially with the stance taken by the author, one would think that someone taking such an esteemed position on this matter would have the decency to proofread this piece before submitting it. Even if you are writing this on a phone as I have. I thought schools at the very least taught students that.

I hope this can be fixed.

    • GoodKidM.A.A.D September 14, 2013

Ok I love what you said but proof reading has nothing to do with this. I too noticed a few errors but they weren’t detrimental to the article and I see they’ve now been edited.
Jaden is ignorant and NEEDS school.

    • Kelly’sMotivation September 14, 2013

Jaden has never had a formal education so he has no room to speak.

  38. Shauwndapooh September 14, 2013

Somebody need to hit his ass like just drunk a v8
He ought to be lucky his parents are buying his career from his public image he seems to be one of those ppl hes speaking of

  39. Linda September 14, 2013

I’m not surprise that Jaden has said this because he was raised that way and it ashamed that he feels he should drop out school will make people a better person. His a idiot a true idiot just like his family so my God deal with them

  40. Tisha September 14, 2013

My opinion: Rich people have the benefit of hiring private tutors, PR people, agents and etc. to basically buy their kid’s career and public opinion.

This little boy is lucky because unless he truly screws up the rest of his life will always be pampered and comfortable.

Now will he be able to produce enough good on HIS OWN to pass onto his own kids? Not with his attitude.

Before there was Hollywood the only wealthy people in this world were people who created their own businesses and wealth and passed it onto their kids. They DEMANDED that their kids get a good education and as a result were smart enough to take the work done by their parents and keep the businesses going till they also passed it on to the next generation. That is where the Johnson & Johnson, Proctor Gambles and etc. Of the world come from.

This child has 3 movies to his name. 2 of which have been with his Daddy. 1 of which flopped (the one primarily featuring him). Who would hire this kid based strictly on his acting if his last name wasn’t Smith?

    • TeamBreezy September 14, 2013

I guess somebody didnt watch “‘The Karate Kid” starring Jaden smith which opened at #1 and went on to gross over 350 million dollars domestically. Thats what made him a star , unfortunately he has not provided much progress lately with these remarks .

  41. Beyawnce September 14, 2013

Says the boy who probably won’t even have to work to get any money, The parents must be teaching them something else.

  43. cake like lady gaga September 14, 2013

Comparing sales of a song that was released in June 2012 to a song that was released in August 2013….

    WHAT KIND OF STRUGGLE??????

If you look up “basic troll struggles” in the dictionary, a number of comments from @HOsie will show up next to the definitions

    • Rosie September 14, 2013

The real struggle is you, the most basic and 2nd most unliked f** on this site after your fellow Little Cutter LittleShitsse or whatever it’s username is now, not only trying to drag someone for being a troll (the irony) but you also clocking yourself by basically admitting that a 1+ year old song is slaying the highly-anticipated new single from the so-called “biggest pop star on Earth.” Mess.

  44. JER September 14, 2013

From Janet Jackson’sRhythmn Nation to this. Will Smith stays ruining his reputation and tarnishing his legacy with his spoiled bratty dumbass kids running amuck. The irony is they are the true bebes kids

Only a fool born to a millionaire would think this way. In his mind, why go to school if he gets everything handed to him including a career?? Dumba*s..

  48. aalexisr September 14, 2013

It has been edited? Not thoroughly because I still see some of the same errors. I see one correction has been made. Beyond that, you are entitled to your opinion. You may say that it is not detrimental but most employers of educated people would disagree.

  49. MISHKA September 14, 2013

Is he saying that his older brother (who graduated from High School) is getting dumber?

Jaden, you don’t even read your own Hollywood contracts yet SMH.Just be 14 and eat your vegetables.

Will and Jada, we’ll pray for you both. Miley Cyrus ain’t got nothing on 2019’s Jaden and Willow. Hmm Hmm Hmm.

  50. Say What!?! September 14, 2013

If you don’t believe in something, You’ll fall for anything. Sadly he never had to earn anything in life it was given to him. This is what happens when you think you can raise your child better than your parents raised you. Parent need to raise child with values and know what hard work is and respect you ancestors who died so you can live a better life.

  51. Patrick September 15, 2013

Why this kid always look so b*** hurt or like he sharted? Something is wrong with his face. Will is cool, his kids are assholes.

  52. justo September 15, 2013

Yall some narrow minded mf, yall dont even know WHY he made the statement, if you dont even TRY to see things form anothers point of view then your opinion is irrelevant.

  53. Vancia September 15, 2013

Why is this a major issue? Many people home-school their kids for exactly this reason.

  54. Deesperado83 September 17, 2013

The hell are you people talking about? The kid is right. Our current education system is set up for making cookie cutter and does next to nothing for the development of the creative and independent thinking needed to become successful. He didn’t say f*** school. Why is everyone freaking out acting like he said f*** school? Because that’s not what he said. He didnt even say kids. He said poeple, very possibly including adults who think 5 differnt algebra classes will help you work in the mailroom with your degree in business. Think for yourselves people or you will always stay under the thumb of big business.
