Weigh In: Britney Spears Reveals New Single Due Next Week / Are You Buying?

Published: Tuesday 10th Sep 2013 by Rashad

Guess who’s back?

Indeed, ‘Oops I Did It Again’ songstress Britney Spears is at it again as unveiled by tonight’s announcement that her new single ‘Work Bitch’ will find its way to digital outlets next week.

But, will it work Spears’ name back to the top of charts?  You tell us…

Greeted by fan frenzy upon its announcement via the singer’s Twitter hours ago, the tune’s accompanying music video – as previously reported – was helmed by ‘Scream & Shout’ director Ben Mor and has already been shot.

Only bringing to boil the already overflowing anticipation for the song’s premiere, the announcement quickly spurred murmurs of Britney versus the sea of pop competition she will be faced with this quarter.

First, there’s Lady Gaga.

Fans may recall in 2011 when the ‘Applause’ hitmaker shattered Spears’ Itunes sales record with her hit ‘Born This Way’.  Boasting a massive 448k sold in a mere matter of days, the single bested Britney’s ‘Hold It Against Me’ (411k) and later Katy Perry‘s ‘Part of Me’ (411k) for most downloads in first week of release (at the time).

2013, on the other hand, is certainly singing a different tune…

For, this year saw Perry claw her name into record books when her song ‘Roar’ sold over 500k in its release week and instantly placed her at a distant first place from her former top competition (but third overall to Taylor Swift and Flo Rida).

..and then there’s Miley Cyrus.  The ‘We Can’t Stop‘ singer may have stopped a few hearts today when she confirmed a duet with Spears for her forthcoming album ‘Bangerz’.  The southern Belles unmask their forthcoming collab just hours after it was reported that Cyrus’s latest venture ‘Wrecking Ball’ has rolled right into “Vevo History” by claiming the “most views clocked in a 24 hours”.

The likes of 19 million pressed play on the visual during its first 24 hours of release.  That number, as of time reporting, has nearly doubled…

Will Britney survive in this sea of competition?

    • mother monster September 10, 2013

      Lame h** sit

  9. Auntie_Jackie September 10, 2013

She’ll slay. That’s Britney Spears we’re talking about. Great dancer, cute as a button and sweet as pie.

    • irene46 September 11, 2013

      great dancer?! britney spears, who?

  10. Dustin September 10, 2013

    Pop is back!!!!!

  11. Alex September 10, 2013

Sam can be so petty sometimes. Who cares whether the single sells more than Perry, Gaga, Miley or blah blah. Britney will always remain a force in the industry regardless of her sales/relevancy. She’s one of the biggest selling female artists of all time; of course, there will come a time where she’ll have to hang it up and call it a day but as of now, she’s still in the industry selling millions globally. Just enjoy.

  12. Rita is Queen September 10, 2013

I dont support people with zero talent so ill pass.

    • real music speaks September 11, 2013

yet u like Rihanna’s clone and lesser with no talent rita?? ironic ha ha

  13. Rita is Queen September 10, 2013

Btw that poll is so messy lmao

  14. mother monster September 10, 2013

F*** this trick she can’t even perform anymore. Im here for Gaga & Miley basic b****** like Katy & Britney can have several f****** seats.

  15. Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 10, 2013

LMAO Samantha, I’ve just partially read this article and all I have to say is look what is on the charts right now. I love Katy Perry but Roar gets old fast and we all know FLOPause is fast food fodder, to be taken as seriously as Beyonce’s attempt to scoring a top ten hit from ‘4’ so let’s not go there.

The only ones who can give Britney a run for her money is LORDE, and that’s because she has a solid catchy song, the rest are basic boulevard quality.

Britney’s POP style is innovative and legendary, in fact Britney is a pop legend and Britney always brings it. It’s Britney b**** and she isn’t going anywhere.

**Plays “Britney” ALBUM from start to finish whilst singing along to “when I found you”**

    • black September 11, 2013

worry about making femme floptale platinum before coming for the KING.

  16. Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 10, 2013

    @Mother Monster

The only thing basic is the blowjobs you’re giving if you cannot get FLOPause to #1 even with that.

  17. Mark111 September 10, 2013

Gaga doesn’t stand a chance now.

    • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 10, 2013

Especially considering “NO Direction” are also releasing in November, oh and Eminem is releasing in November too.

Someone is about to have a meltdown.

Oh and go buy “Kiss Land”

I think she needs this single to succeed, otherwise her album sales may continue to suffer. There is no doubt she is a force to be reckoned with – However, she really needs to bring something different, and the choreography in the video MUST be on point – no lazy s***, no smoke and mirrors. She needs a new sound, with an updated look that shows she is working hard. In order to compete with what’s out here nowadays (Gaga, Katy, Rihanna, etc. – she may have put out music similar to them in the past but the fact that she is older, her fan base is not as broad as some of the newer acts) – that is what is necessary. I think she is definitely capable of it, it’s just a matter of whether or not she recognizes how important this is…I’m here for the single though, hoping for the best!

    • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 10, 2013

Please don’t put Rihanna is the same sentence with Gaga, Miley…etc, ‘she’ (Rihanna) is WAYYY above them.

      • Jeyotu September 11, 2013

        No she isn’t.

      • jake.ubb September 11, 2013

I didn’t mention Miley’s name…did I? I said Gaga, Katy, and Rihanna – meaning they are 3 of the leading artists in today’s music scene. That’s all I meant by it. Don’t be so pressed.

  19. Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 10, 2013

So who is buying Gloria Estefan?

  20. IKNOWTHETRUTH September 10, 2013

Maybe Beyonce is waiting to save her single/album for last. All this news of these girls dropping albums and she’s nowhere to be found. She better serve. This new Britney song does have me intrigued, I must say.

  21. Nichole September 10, 2013

Britney will break Miley’s record once the video for Work B**** drops.

  22. Cici slaaaays September 10, 2013

She can’t sing nor dance anymore so what’s the point? Like forreals.

  23. Cici slaaaays September 10, 2013

But shout out to Britney for not being scared to release new material like Beyonce.

  24. Cici slaaaays September 10, 2013

Gaga & Cici >>> The rest of these h***..

  25. Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 10, 2013

Before I exit, Britney RECENTLY had a top ten SMASH hit, something Beyonce cannot do. How can you doubt her impact when she scores hits so effortlessly, something Beyonce has to perform on every stage available for.

    #WORK B****
