Must See: Celebrities Congratulate Brandy On ’20 Years In The Industry’ / Brandy Reacts

Published: Wednesday 16th Oct 2013 by David

Hailed as one of the most influential African American acts to grace Pop culture, Brandy‘s impact on music and the world at large has seen transcend levels set or met by many of her closest contemporaries.

Indeed, before the arrival of Beyonce or the wise workings of Olivia Pope on ABC’s ‘Scandal’ was Brandy, one of the only women of colour to lead a US prime time television show at just 17 years old. This, achieved as she joined Mary J.Blige, TLC and Aaliyah at the forefront of R&B and its Pop chart domination.

With all this in mind, it only makes sense that the icon be celebrated for her contributions to the field of entertainment, as she enjoys her 20th year within the field.

How she was celebrated?

Moving footage below…

  4. ROSEGOLD October 16, 2013

Brandy may not be selling like Beyonce or Rihanna these days, but she has been there, done that! She’s still slaying stages, beasting vocally, acting, and making her money.

    • CiciSlays October 16, 2013

Yaas mileys getting all the attention and yall mad.

      • ROSEGOLD October 16, 2013

If Brandy, who outsold your faves entire discography with her debut album alone is a lessor then what is Ciara? lol Z-Squad is so pitiful.

      • BEYHIVE_MINAJ October 16, 2013

I’d rather be mad than try everything to get the whole world talking

      • Twerk 4 Miley October 16, 2013

  8. BrandNuStar October 16, 2013

Lol at TGJ exposing Twerk 4 Miley aka Cicislays. As a Ciara fan you have no right to say anything about about Brandy considering the fact that your fave has NEVER peaked or had any kind of major impact outside of R&B.

    • Twerk 4 Miley October 16, 2013

Hi Sam.. your such a messy Queen

      • BrandNuStar October 16, 2013

Sis. If I WAS Sam I would have blocked you from here a long time ago.

    • Chillin October 16, 2013

      Hahaha..that’s hat the b**** deserved

    • CiaraIcon October 16, 2013

Except for pop hits she had that hit the top 3 (“Goodies”, “1, 2 Step”, “Oh”). She had many other songs in the top 10 and 20 of the pop chart.

Brandy is wonderful and so is Ciara.

  9. stephy tha lambily October 16, 2013

I like Brandy! She is a very sweet & humble person. Congrats on your 20th anniversary! I remember watching her show after school, eating Oodles & Noodles… I literally grew up with her show/music…

    #Imisstha90s 🙁

Lauren London: “Your voice is one of a kind. I have never heard one like it. It’s one of my favorite voices”.
    ——————————–

This sums it up for me! Nobody in music reminds me of Brandy. There may be some similarities, but Brandy has always been in her own lane. I’ve been in love with her from the first day I ever heard (and I mean that literally – no lie). I marvel at how she’s continue to find different ways to use it. Brandy is truly the gift to music that keeps on giving! This is my #Legend!

So beautiful , so talented , so humbled , so underrated. Brandy will forever be remembered for her contributions to pop culture. I wish I could say the same for your spur of the moment faves. It is about gawdt damn time someone acknowledged her .

  20. Jessy October 16, 2013

I love Brandy! She deserves so much more recognition. She needs to get back on top where she belongs! Love you Brandy!

  21. LalaLoo October 16, 2013

    20 years… damn I feel old!
I was hooked on Brandy ever since I heard ‘I Wanna Be Down’ and I followed her career since then.

I love her, i love her artistry and there is no denying that she has been an huge influence on everyone in the game right now. All your faves learned a bit from her, that ain’t no lie. She deserves every succes in the world and more recognition.

I am here for miss Norwood and everything that is coming her way!

  22. Sweetnothings78 October 16, 2013

Sams far from ‘a queen’, keep
It light sweetie, very very light

  23. Sweetnothings78 October 16, 2013

    Recognition where recognition is deserved!!!.

Less albums out that Rihanna yes but QUALITY OVER QUANTIY.
She has made no secret she writes from the heart & not for commercial gain.

Shes important on so many more levels than profit, yet she reeps the awards her fans & peers love from her.

She if you like it or not is a ‘legend’, like that word used or not still changes nothing that she is a legend.

  24. Jennifer October 16, 2013

OMG Tears! So touchN. Loved her since she came out. I use to tell my son and my younger siblings how Brandy had it on lock by her self, back in da day. #legend. ( without tryN 2 B)

  25. RG2 October 16, 2013

Brandy makes quality music, not just some catchy songs that are only hot for the moment and then fade out within months. Her albums are still better than a lot of these new/current artist that release music today. She may not sell like she used to, but her talent is truly one of a kind. I can’t wait for the day when she receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. These young kids don’t real talent when its in their face; their just blinded by gimmicks.

  26. STOP TROLLING! October 16, 2013

Some of you are really pathetic on this site. Stop trolling and go get a damn JOB! This is a BRANDY post! If you stan for Miley, Rihanna or Ciara you need to STFU!

  27. MJSTAN October 16, 2013

    VOCAL BIBLE!

  28. FAF October 16, 2013

She deserves it. NSN was and is still the best album by a black teen star EVER. Barbie, Covergirl, acting, modeling Brandy did it ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ! & she’s a nice girl 😀

  29. Brandys Starr October 16, 2013

So touching! Congrats B i love her so much. Legend and sweet person above all!

  30. Kyle October 16, 2013

This was a very well put-together video. I’ve been a fan of Brandy since the beginning and it’s so crazy to think it has been 20 years. Congratulations to her and I hope she keeps on releasing quality music. “Two Eleven” is still in heavy rotation!!!

  31. ABC October 16, 2013

Brandy is such a crybaby 🙂 Lol!! That was so sweet. Brandy deserves every bit of praise & all of the accolades she gets. Her voice/arrangements/harmonies are truly one of a kind! Like Missy said “often omitted, never duplicated”. Much respect to your favorite singers favorite singer #theVocalBible

  32. @nape_sa October 16, 2013

i wish the new generation knew!
Brandy is actually #1 to me, guest she cant have it all
and im sure that being called the vocal bible and being given so many props for your voice is more rewarding than being #1 in current music ratings!

  33. whocares October 16, 2013

    Beyoncé will never.

  34. doubline47 October 16, 2013

I love this lady so so much, she is just awesome with a awesome voice.

  35. Bey Fan October 16, 2013

This womans voice….One of the greatest in the industry. I dont understand why ppl think she’s underrated…everybody who has an ear for music recognizes how incredible Brandy’s tone is.

    • Teflon Boy October 16, 2013

It’s cos she’s routinely hated on by people who DON’T have an ear for music like the many trolls on this post.

  36. HYPED October 16, 2013

SO Blessed by ALL the brandy Love

  37. JFB October 16, 2013

i know this is a Brandy post but lets be clear, there are MANY more artist( including Brandy) who deserve more recognition. From Monica, Toni Braxton,Usher etc. Brandy’s NOT the only 1 20 years deep in the game….

    • LouLou October 16, 2013

Monica came out in 1995, the year after Brandy. This is 20 years of Brandy in the industry(Thea). I feel like Toni B is recognized as a top dog. Usher will receive his star on the walk of fame this year.

  38. MUSICHEAD October 16, 2013

    Speechless!

  39. Mark111 October 16, 2013

Didn’t her first album came out in 1994, late 1994 as that? Brandy was just a teen star, sorry guys.
Aaliyah > Brandy as an artist.
Monica > Brandy when it comes to vocals.

    • really October 16, 2013

They’re starting from when she made her debut in the entertainment industry it was when Thea came out and you just put three different artist with three different style the different voices in a comparison #getitogether and btw MissyElliott know the one who contributed to both Aaliyah and Monica projects gave her props #reallygetitogether

      • Mark111 October 16, 2013

Out of the three album Aaliyah released, Missy only wrote on One in a Million and I Care 4U song on her last. R. Kelly wrote the first album and Static wrote most of the 3rd.

Brandy career was over as soon as the Pop girls came (Britney, CA and Jessica) and those White kids hopped off the Brady train and on theirs.

Brandy, the Debbie Gibson of the 90’s. Sorry guys.

      • Mark111 October 16, 2013

I want to take back everything I said. I guess I forgot the impact Brandy brought to the table. (Memory was fuzzy, lol)

    • Lucia October 16, 2013

I will have to disagree. I like Monica, baby girl can saaang but she has always been one-dimensional as a singer and artist. Out of the three artists you named, Brandy was def superior vocally.

      • Mark111 October 16, 2013

I’m not hating on Brandy. I know all 3 were the same, but very different. But people don’t even play Brandy’s old music. Monica 90’s songs are classic, so is Aaliyah’s. I think Brandy never took risk with her sound, her only classic is Almost Doesn’t Count, Wanna Be Down and Broken Hearted.

      • Mark111 October 16, 2013

I want to take back everything I said. I guess I forgot the impact Brandy brought to the table. (Memory was fuzzy, lol)

        With love.

      • Lucia October 16, 2013

I still hear ALL of their old music. All of Brandy and Aaliyah’s albums were different musically. Do you own all of Brandy’s albums? I can’t say the same for Monica (I own all of her albums except for New Life). Like I said previously, Monica could sang (her vocals seem to be deteriorating due to lack of proper training and technique), but most of her albums were the same ol’. Nothing wrong with sticking to your roots, but you have to leave your comfort zone at some point in your career. As for Aaliyah, I was born in 89, so I was around during the 90’s and people honestly didn’t reeeeally start fooling with her until she passed…. unfortunately. I owned OIAM and her self titled LP, so I was a fan but most of my friends were too invested in Mariah, Mary, Brandy and TLC to even give her the time of day. When she passed, they purchased all of her albums and finally recognized her talent.

I also don’t think they were the same at all. Monica was the sassy, mature R&B girl, Aaliyah was the perfect hybrid of tomboyish sensuality and Brandy was the picture perfect, R&B/pop princess. Different styles, different music.

      • Mark111 October 16, 2013

Well one thing no one can disagree with, all three were and still are the Princesses of R&B.

New Life was BAD, it was too much like Still Standing. Making of Me was bad, but a few songs were dope. But her first three are really good. I never heard New Moon, so I”m gonna check it out. I will say that Right Here is not only my fave Brady song, but it’s top 10 fave song in my book.

    • Charlie October 17, 2013

Mark you are entitled on your opinion but i have to say that lucia’s comment holds the truth. They were three different artists and i appreciate them. No-one will know what the future held for Aaliyah because she left us early, and Monica make good music (although her first 3 albums were the best) but Brandy for me did it from the beginning and thats just how it is.
Anyway, this video is appreciating a singer who can sing, can sing live and is still making music and your comments are making a point but seem negative.

    • RoyalKev October 17, 2013

      @Mark

I usually find myself in agreement with you, but this time I think your comment is a little off. Brandy has taken so many risk on her albums, she’s an experimental artist, musically speaking. Aaliyah was great at that as well, so I get the comparison between the two (when it comes down to that category). I just think I’d have to give it to Bran though, simply because she made the risky music more listenable. I love them both because they’ve evolved masterfully, but Bran has always been on her A game.

When it comes to vocals, it all comes down to preference. I respect Monica and I understand that people appreciate that style of singing, but Bran’s voice is so unique. I feel like her and Toni put women with huskier tones on the map. They took something rare in music and made it commercial.

You can say that Bran’s career slowed down when Britney , Jessica and Christina came on board, but everyone has their time. I don’t know too many people that really felt Jessica’s impact. Some people think Christina’s career slowed down prematurely and that Brit was only at her best in her first 4 eras. What an artist do while their on top contributes a lot to their legacy, but you also see what people are made of when their no longer all over the charts. It doesn’t mean the quality of their music goes down if they don’t get the same shine. Bran’s a shining example of that. She hasn’t dropped the ball that way since her debut. RealTalk!

  40. Von Tae’ October 16, 2013

    Awwwwwwww Brandy !!!

  41. Lucia October 16, 2013

I tested up a little while watching this. It’s like the industry forgot all about Brandy. BRANDY WAS THE F****** S*** IN THE 90S AND I DARE ANYONE TO CHALLENGE ME LOL. She accomplished sooooo much at a young age, that’s why she deserves to be recognized. People don’t understand how many “firsts” Brandy holds. By the time she was 20 years old, she had sold over 30 million ALBUM, not records #smokeandmirrors… ALBUMS!!! Had her OWN 6 season sitcom, was hand picked by Whitney f****** Houston to be the first black Cinderella, co started alongside Diana Ross in one of the highest rated TV movies (65 million viewers), successful world tour, a Grammy award, #1 singles, Covergirl and had her own Barbie doll. Who else do you know that has not one or two, but 6 classic albums?? I can’t name anyone. And through it all she’s remained humble, and paid it forward (Beatfacehoney). Brandy deserves her flowers while she still has breath in her body!!!

  42. Lucia October 16, 2013

Lots of grammatical errors #ipad but y’all get the point lol

  43. Pleassssssse October 16, 2013

Soooo OVER RATED by her fans, and soooo BASIC. No wonder she’s done, it’s been a rap since “Full Moon”.

    • Chillin October 16, 2013

B**** shut the f*** up…what is overrated..someone who is respected by practically everyone in the industry

  44. credits October 16, 2013

  45. ASIPOFBRANDY October 16, 2013

This is why I stay sippin, Brandy you are everything that the world of entertainment NEEDS!!! This is who Kanye should be talking about seeing to it that she gets a STAR ON THE WALK IF FAME!!! #QUEENBEE #1 #SUPERPROUDSTAR

  46. kevo October 16, 2013

this made me cry!!! I love her soooooooooooooooooooooo much!!! she is beyond a star, she is a legendary ICON!!! I LOVE YOU BRANDY!!!!

  47. Bran Star October 16, 2013

I can’t even begin to understand how anyone can FIX their mouth to say that Brandy is overrated. How many people in the audience of the general public are praising her like this? Sit back and ponder on that for a few moments.

  48. suga&spice October 16, 2013

She first started out singing backup for r&b group immature when she was only 12yrs ok.

  49. Charlie October 17, 2013

The first two minutes of this video gave me my entire musical life! People focus on sales, but in terms of musically quality, as far as i am concerned Brandy has not produced a bad album.

On this video i see no lies.

LL cool J said the truth when he said that she looks younger today.

  50. Kevin October 17, 2013

Like someone said, has been in the game for 20 yrs, but yet only lasted for 15 mins. Such a overrated bore.

    • Bran Star October 17, 2013

If that’s the case, then most of your favorite artists don’t even last 2 seconds. LOL!

  51. MuzikLuv October 17, 2013

Overrated = Own sitcom, grammy award, multi million selling albums, 1st black Cinderella, industry respect and self evolution.

Brandy will forever be one of my favs. Her tone, decision making and approach in songs are what makes/made her stand out and have many take notes.

Never underestimate the important role Brandy played as a black ENTERTAINER during that 90’s early 2000’s era.

The great thing about her is she’s grown up to appreciate herself as a person and her vocal tone right now is on fire with that extra depth.
She doesn’t need to be as big as she was back then sales wise because it’s already been done and now she can enjoy her longevity as a SANGER and actress.

HER LEGACY IS CEMENTED and she deserves that respect!!

    Sits bad and plays:

  52. Love that company. October 17, 2013

Never got the hype with her. Vocals..basic, music…bland, looks..ugly, talent..nonexistent. She herself knows all this, and deep down inside, her fans know it as well.

    • Bran Star October 17, 2013

You’re filled with nothing but lies and hatred. How’d you find your way to this post?

    • bitchplease October 17, 2013

but i bet you think beyonce is a special talent yourself. as basic as that bumblebitch is. can’t speak, cant act, her music is beyond bland and generic. no real lyrics and most of her fan base is gays. she cute with makeup on only and as forgettable as the last regular chick without it. and only got swag once she married jayz. b**** 35 singing lullabies to african beats. “ima grown woman, i can do whatever i want.” really? 35. leave that for the Ariana Grandes of the industry. at 14 Brandy’s music was on point and way more sophisticated than that of the king of all basicness.

    • Stephen October 17, 2013

hth is she overrated if almsot EVERY if NOT EVERY singer out there is INFLUENCED by her? Heck she’s Brian Mcknight’s fav singer and she was Whitney Houston’s fav singer! But then again, you’re probably just a child, which is sad, today’s kids are so damn ignorant. Additionally, Brandy is beautiful inside and out, it’s you who’s ugly on the inside and I bet it’s a reflection of your nature on the outside.

    • Stephen October 17, 2013

And pray tell, what would you even know about accomplishments, I mean wtf have you accomplished in your life except spew hate? think about that the next time, you post ignorant s*** because while you’re still living in some minute apartment somehwere, Brandy will still be upping the bar and acheiving her goals and making more money than you or your entire family

  53. STARRY-O October 17, 2013

It’s not 1998 anymore! Brandy and Monica love each other and so do I. Brandy is an amazing talent. She has receipts! Like someone else stated most of these artists are smoke and mirrors but Brandy is the real thing, not to mention her vocals are ice cold! Luv Her!

  54. Navy Nick October 17, 2013

YES LORD BRANDY IS THE TRUTH!!!!!

  55. Nikko October 18, 2013

    #BritneyArmy loves u B!!!!
