Fantasia Teams With Emeli Sande For New Single ‘Side Effects Of You’ / Debuts New Radio Version

Published: Wednesday 9th Oct 2013 by Sam

There’s no stopping Fantasia.

The Grammy winner and American Idol graduate has spent much of 2013 promoting her critically-acclaimed album ‘Side Effects Of You’ – which yielded singles ‘Lose To Win’ and ‘Without Me (ft. Kelly Rowland & Missy Elliott)’. Having embarked on a series of live dates in support of the LP, the 29-year-old has confirmed the project’s title track is its third single.

Set to impact Urban radio on October 28th, the track’s accompanying visual will begin production imminently according to the star’s manager. Once unwrapped, the clip will mark the first time a “third” video has been commissioned during any of Fantasia’s album campaigns. A feat which, in this trying time for R&B, should definitely be commended.

Interestingly, the songbird is releasing a stripped back version of the Emeli Sande penned / Naughty Boy produced cut to radio. Take a listen after the jump…

We like and imagine Urban Adult Contemporary radio will too.

That said, if Ms. Barrino is really looking to stretch out this campaign, we’d love the likes of ‘End Of Me’ and ‘Ain’t All Bad’ to receive the single treatment too at some point too. Even if without videos. They’re that good!

Anyway…

  6. MUSICHEAD October 9, 2013

Ain’t All Bad or End Of Me would do better at urban radio. But this is her best shot at a pop/rhythmic hit.

  7. FAF October 9, 2013

I think its a good look to get Emilie on the song bc she has mainstream soul appeal

  8. FAF October 9, 2013

Its also sick how the grammys never televises the R&B segments, they’d rather show b******* ass country portion noone cares about

    • Savannah October 9, 2013

Fantasia should have the 2014 Grammys on lock, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Tamar snatched the awards like she did at the BET awards WITHOUT an album! >_>
Hopefully she’ll get to perform. I’m tired of seeing the same performers.

    • Josh October 9, 2013

Right I have notice that too. Some of the R&B categories are never televise. I didn’t know Fantasia won her first Grammy for Bittersweet in 2011 because the category that she won in was not televise.

this is my favorite song on the album

  10. ROSEGOLD October 9, 2013

I love the song but I tend to skip it because it’s a lil depressing for my tastes. I know she’ll kill the live showings though. “End Of Me” deserves the single treatment too! I hope she’ll get a fourth single.

  11. GClay October 9, 2013

lighthouse is the best song on this album by far

    • ROSEGOLD October 9, 2013

This song is gonna help her cross over. I think it’s time for her to crossover into the pop audience. So wise choice to release this as a single. And with Emeli Sande, she is gonna crossover. Emeli wrote Alicia Keys’ song Brand New Me and that did great on the charts. I’m sure Fantasia would have the same success. When I first heard the album, I knew this song and In Deep both had crossover appeal. Fantasia should release To The Heavens overseas

  14. ajm265 October 9, 2013

It will not crossover unless she pop the puss like Miley and get some press

  15. Dev October 9, 2013

I prefer the album version, this one is nice but it has the same vocals and the music is a bit sparse. This version would be good for t.v performances, or used for t.v show promo as background music (i have Scandal in mind) I’m always surprised that if someone can chart on the billboard 100 or even top 10 with an album how they then need to have a crossover single? can someone explain?

    • MUSICHEAD October 9, 2013

Crossover singles keep an album alive. First week sales can get an artist into the top 10 albums chart based on name and promotional appearances but if the masses (crossover radio) are not hearing your music, they have no reason to buy the album resulting in the album crashing and burning by it’s 4th week of release.

This has been the case with Brandy, Keyshia Cole, Kelly Rowland, Tamar and all the other girls this year.

Wasnt my first choice, and I do prefer the album version but this version has CROSSOVER written all over it.
I love the meaning behind the song, Emeli Sande Is the DIANE WARREN of our time, she has some deep lyrics for your soul …
I Still Vote End of Me or So Much to Prove for 4th Single…
