Jermaine Dupri Reveals Details On Mariah Carey’s New Single Launch

Published: Saturday 9th Nov 2013 by Sam

With less than 48 hours remaining until the debut of Mariah Carey‘s single ‘The Art Of Letting Go’, the singer’s longtime collaborator and newly-appointed manager Jermaine Dupri is spilling on the track’s out-of-the-box launch campaign.

As earlier reported, the Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins produced cut will premiere exclusively on Facebook on November 11th; immediately after it’ll impact both iTunes and radio. Needless to say, Team Mimi are launching an all-out chart assault.

Speaking on the record’s roll-out, hitmaker JD dished all to diva’s dedicated Lambs – waxing honest on his reasons for approaching Facebook, as well as some of the challenges he’s encountered in the run-up to the song’s release.

An interesting read awaits after the jump…

Via Jermaine Dupri / Global 14:

With basically 1 day left before the release of “The Art Of Letting Go” on Mariahs FaceBook page, i thought it was important to share with my Lifers, things i’ve learned through this exercise,First off, as big as FaceBook is,when it comes to music people still question how much ground will actually get covered, ive gotten messages every day from lambs like this.(Mariah’s fanbase isn’t like Biebers in that it isnt full of teenagers who sit on Itunes. Many of them are old skool and need to be exposed to the song on radio first to want to support her,so while the Facebook premiere will attract a lot of die hard fans, many more fans will only be exposed to Mariah by airplay and that is what will drive up her iTunes position.) via @meltaway

If your a member of Global14 or a Jermaine Dupri follower than you should know how much i believe in direct connect and how long i’ve been talking about this,i learned the strength of this when i signed Dondria, when people follow you, subscribe to your page or like you, their sending you a very important message, its your job to pay attention and understand what that is.

Before i approached FaceBook about this, i was wrecking my brain trying to think of something to do, that would hit all of her lambs at once, its not many things that can do that, but FaceBook can,to all of the lambs sending me messages,i hope you fully understand this, lets just say if Mariah only had 1 million followers (for laughs) on monday at 11 am each one those million people will recieve a notification of exactly whats going on,REMEMBER!!! this is 1 million people that won’t this notification

The 2nd thing i learned is that internet education is still way down, from the Record labels,Publishing companies,Artist and PR,they still don’t address these content controllers the way they should, and artist of the MC level still don’t use FaceBook to their advantage.as i’m writing this, I’m praying we have all the signatures and legal information taken care of cause just yesterday **** was going crazy!!and with out me going into details,as much as this may sound like its been done before, it really has’nt

On monday 11/11 at 11 am around the world, you will be able to buy the song, listen to the song and ask Mariah question on her FaceBook page, i hope to see you there

**********

The Facebook aspect of the release is what has us most excited. Indeed, if executed in the right way, it could present an impactful new platform for the servicing of new music moving forward.

As for the track itself, on paper Mimi+Darkchild feels like a smash-in-waiting. However, we’ve been hoodwinked one too many times with pre-debut hype for new Mariah material. Hence, we’ll wait to see if she delivers this go round. We’re rooting for her.

Did Beyonce win her Grammy’s before or after Matthew was on the Grammy committee?

      • *ℙᏫℙ ℝᏫᎩAℒᎿᎩ* November 9, 2013

I need you to tell me , how many Grammy (s) did beyonce get Without her Father being a Part of the Grammy’s committee ?

        😀

    • *ℙᏫℙ ℝᏫᎩAℒᎿᎩ* November 9, 2013

didn’t you all say that before “The Superbowl”, “The Release of 4” and God only knows when else ?

I wonder When you gonna stop being so delusional and Gullible, Beyonce is not all That, she’s Just a Performer now, which She’s very Good at, nothing Else, she hadn’t a hit since 2008 and her last album was the Lowest selling album of her career, She got Reduced to be a Live act and Rihanna came Superior to her regarding that with “Diamonds World Tour”, nobody is worried about anything beyonce dear @ Tina, we’re in 2013, not 2003.
      😆

      • Vee November 9, 2013

Lol @ Rihanna is superior to Beyonce, only the Navy see it that way. The delusion.

      • *ℙᏫℙ ℝᏫᎩAℒᎿᎩ* November 9, 2013

        Only The navy ? 😯

Google Diamonds World Tour Baby and see The Numbers yourself, she Outdid Beyonce’s Recent Tour and The full numbers aren’t even IN Yet. 😆 😆 😆 😆

        Stay in Denial Tbh.

      • Vee November 9, 2013

Outdid? How exactly? You cant be good at math, Beyoncé is grossing more on average darling.

    • yenny November 9, 2013

AHHHHH! Britney stans need to zip it because cant work b**** was an underperformance and yall know that album will flop much like her x factor stint! MAD??

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

Wait a minute, didn’t work b**** peak higher than Run the flop which couldn’t peak higher than Kelly Rowland’s Motivation??

And Britney has got music out, where is Beyonce’s???

    • honey boy November 9, 2013

LA REID babyface clive davis tommy mottola ron fair quincy jones berry gordy ………they are ALL on the grammy commitee!! your point???

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

But the question is how many Grammy’s did Beyonce win without Matthew on the Grammy committee??

      • Vee November 9, 2013

Exactly, but its only an issue when Mathew is *rolls eye* The bias is REAL.

      • Vee November 9, 2013

that was directed to @honey boy

      • NT November 9, 2013

You’re going to go harder for your child to get a Grammy if on the Committee opposed to some other artist

      • Vee November 9, 2013

Doesn’t matter, those managers push for their artists to do as well as possible and have the best reputation possible as they are under your name. And Mathew does not have the powers of God in comparison to the other managers as much as yall love to make out.

      • *ℙᏫℙ ℝᏫᎩAℒᎿᎩ* November 9, 2013

Mathew knowles to beyonce’s career is What Oxygen is To Human’s Life, Essential.

Without Him she’s…. Just look at her latest era without his management, a hot Boiling Messss. 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

      • Vee November 9, 2013

Just Like LA Reid, Tommy Matola, Clive Davis.. etc were essential to their artists careers boo. You seriously think they could have had their success without them? Don’t act like all artists don’t have a driving force behind them family or not. Very naïve and biased And Beyoncé actually manages herself right now, which is something many people would not/have never even touched on in their career.

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

It’s funny, you write all of that but still cannot mention how many Grammy’s Beyonce has won without Matthew on the Grammy Committee.

      • Vee November 9, 2013

How long has he been on the Grammys committee for? I don’t care, because she STILL won for songs you people love to call a FLOP without him :\ which just proves my point my more.

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

But you’re bragging about Grammy’s Beyonce won when Matthew was on the committee.

How can Beyonce win 17 Grammy’s (thanks to Matthew) when Madonna, Janet and Mariah have won like 6-7 Grammy’s??

I call it b*******, Matthew most definitely pulled some strings.

      • Vee November 9, 2013

And I only debate with facts, not theories.

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

And the facts are that Beyonce won majority of her Grammy’s when Matthew was on the Grammy Committee.

Take away Matthew and she can’t win Grammy’s anymore.

      • Vee November 9, 2013

Lies. She won without him. For ‘flop’ songs.

    • honey boy November 9, 2013

You’re going to go harder for your child to get a Grammy if on the Committee opposed to some other artist

      …………………………………………………………………………………………

please! if its easy for matthew why wouldnt it be easy for the others??? they are on the committee too and they care about their artists just as much as him. didnt matthew “steal” from his child though???

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

Matthew has got a Bsc in Business Administration, he is not like LA Reid or Tommy Matola, he clearly has horned up negotiation skills.

      • Vee November 9, 2013

So why weren’t ‘From Above’ successful if he knows what hes doing so much more? ‘Who’ you ask? My point exactly.

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

The real question is why has Beyonce’s career faltered with Matthew out of the equation?

      • Vee November 9, 2013

She managers herself and is not getting the strings pulled anymore. HBIC. When will your fave?

      • Lovebird (Britney Jean – 03.12.13) November 9, 2013

My favs are releasing music, where is Beyonce’s single?

      • Vee November 9, 2013

        Cant answer?

    • BEYHIVE_MINAJ November 10, 2013

@lovebird umm, excuse me,but you shouldn’t be talking about releasing music when flop b**** and perfume have been flopping. And if you wanna drag rihanna into this, her past singles haven’t been doing so good either. Pour it up,right now, what now(though I think it slays).the only number 1 she’s scored in four months is the monster, and that’s not even her song,it’s eminem’s. So feel free to grab a seat.

    • WhatInThe?! November 10, 2013

@Tina Jones, please yall been saying that for the last few years. And it’s not like her last album “4” impacted the charts to the point where any artist would see her as a threat!

  9. Motivation November 9, 2013

He basically told everybody to buy the song, it’s kind of stupid.

  10. christinastherealtalent November 9, 2013

“Beobers fanbase is full of teenagers who sit on itunes..” i just died haha.

  11. Ant November 9, 2013

I think what they’re attempting to do with this single launch is completely innovative and groundbreaking. She has nearly 15 million Facebook fans and the way they’ve already bigged up this release so much, all her fans are chomping at the bit for the single release. It’s certainly built up a bunch of anticipation. And just the fact that it’ll go right to iTunes immediately after it debuts is going to be fantastic. I have a really great feeling about this single!

  12. Vee November 9, 2013

I like how professional yall are being with the posts for the past few days. No pointless Beyoncé/Rihanna posts up to start stan wars. But I can see how thirsty certain people on here to argue about the same thing again judging from one particular comment response section.

    • *ℙᏫℙ ℝᏫᎩAℒᎿᎩ* November 9, 2013

B**** Plz, you injected yourself to the Conversation yourself, Thirsty and In denial. 🙄

      • Vee November 9, 2013

And you didn’t write that whole paragraph thanks to one s*** stirring sentence to begin with.

  13. HOWYOULIKEIT November 9, 2013

“However, we’ve been hoodwinked one too many times with pre-debut hype”
i remember the hype before britney spears perfume. the song flopped very hard.
And b****** keep talking about Beyonce. Damn

  14. FutureCIARA November 9, 2013

Mariah is coming to snatch wigs and weaves!

  15. Common Sense November 9, 2013

Pop radio needs another “Rolling in the Deep” adult contemporary hit. Let’s hope Mariah brings the quality material that she used to dominate the 90s.

  16. JT November 10, 2013

Embarrassing. Seems like it was written by someone who barely finished grade school, much like most of the posts on ThatGrapeJuice.

    • BEYHIVE_MINAJ November 10, 2013

Finally, something we can agree on. This h** is talentless

  17. BEYHIVE_MINAJ November 10, 2013

Yassss Mariah. This industry needs saving

  18. Quan November 10, 2013

I really am pulling for her. We so need a hit from Mariah. She is the last biggest diva who came from an era from real music and not gimmicks.

  19. ENOUGH ONIKA (KMART QUEEN) November 10, 2013

    I don’t like the cover……

  20. MiuMiu November 10, 2013

His punctuation and spelling are atrocious.
Also, I really don’t get why this is so innovative? Maybe somebody could explain that to me.
I mean, Lady gaga’s team spend the whole entire day promoting her music etc. through Facebook. Heck, even Michelle William’s team does it day in and day out. How is this in any way different? Releasing it on Facebook first? Surely releasing it on iTunes/Youtube/Soundcloud or whatever first and then connecting it through Facebook and Twitter like many artists do nowadays would be more beneficial?
More social networking platforms = Bigger opportunity for more ears to hear your material?
    At least that’s what I would’ve thought.

I also don’t understand the need for JD to even write this nonsense. Literally, that post made zero sense.

However, I hope Mariah and JD have made something incredible together. I’m tired of hearing Sub-Par Mariah. Let’s at least go back to The “Emancipation” days of glory, please!

If the music is good, it shouldn’t matter at all what outlet people hear the music on. If it’s good, it’ll make an impact regardless.

    • HOTSTUFF November 10, 2013

i agree. you took the words right out of my mouth . I was thinking the same. JD is delusional and all this is pure nonsense.

    • Ant November 10, 2013

This situation is entirely different from just “posting” it on Facebook. They’re world premiering it on Facebook in one giant worldwide push. The fact that they’ve organized a Mariah Q&A at 11:00 to coincide with the world premiere of the song shows that they’re trying to build up a giant anticipation for all 15 million of her followers around the world to rush to Facebook on Monday morning to engage with her one-on-one as well as listen to the song.

Instead of just throwing it on radio (which is will be sent to the following day), this will give her fans the chance to really make use of the social media platform and then they’ll be able to purchase the song on iTunes immediately after it’s world premiered on Facebook.

I, personally, think it’s pretty genius. They’ve got Mariah’s fans super eager for Monday and I’m sure it’s going to translate into a really fantastic roll-out for one of the most anticipated songs of the season. I’m looking forward to it.

      • MiuMiu November 10, 2013

Thanks for the explanation Ant. I was didn’t know about the Q and A aspect of it.
I am looking forward to it too and I hope the music is great.
It’s about time we got great Mariah Carey music again.

  21. Todd November 10, 2013

    Cant wait!!!!

  22. JOHNVIDAL November 10, 2013

    Can´t wait Mariah!!!!
October was lame as f*** for music releases. And now all of a sudden I can´t cope with all this lol I just bought “Loved me back to Life” album yesterday Mariah. Give me a f****** break girl! lol Now seriously I can´t wait.
Oh and is Sam having some type of amnesia??? He loved #Beautiful back in May when it debuted. Now he acts as if Mimi hadn´t delivered lately in his opinion? B**** please you feel the need to shade her every time even though you love her. Get your act together Sam.

  23. Todd November 10, 2013

I think we might crash the Fb servers 😀
@MIUMIU , it really isnt just a Fb post- each one of her Fb fans will get a NOTIFICATION about the premiere, so i guess at least 1/3 of those 14-15 million people will check it out = around 20-50% of them might want to buy it on itunes the next day

  24. Todd November 10, 2013

    OMG,Sam forgot to mention shes 43 😀
