Published: Monday 4th Nov 2013 by David

As she continues work on her fifth studio album, ‘Golden‘ entertainer Jill Scott has been named as the latest actor to star in the forthcoming James Brown biopic, set for release via ‘Universal’ in the October of next year.

Full story below…

Named ‘Get On Up’ , the movie follows the story of the late icon, detailing his rise from the streets of South Carolina to the glory he enjoyed at the forefront of black music and – as time went on- Pop culture.

Kicking off this month, production will see Scott play one Brown’s three wives, starring alongside ‘Murder She Wrote‘s Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and ’42’ star Chadwick Boseman.

Eyeing an October 2014 release date, ‘Up‘ will arrive six years after Scott first portrayed Mma Ramotswe in the TV adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith‘s ‘The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’, in which she starred in alongside ‘Dreamgirls’ actress Anika Noni Rose.
