Is the music industry being dominated by artless artists?

If tweets published by ‘Refill’ performer Elle Varner are anything to go by, the answer to that question is simply…yes.

Commenting on the long running trend of record label’s signing acts with more of an eye for fashion and celebrity than an ear for music, the entertainer’s remarks are now available to peep and weigh in on below!

So, let us know…

Do you agree?

…and if so, why do you think that has come to be?

I mean she is telling the truth.

  2. Savannah December 16, 2013

This is true, but the complaining is getting old. Fact of the matter is, the same ones who complain are the same ones who support the “illusionists”. With that being said, I loved Elle’s first album and the second one sounds like it’s shaping up to be epic.

biatch need to shut the hell up. the entertainment business was always about glamour. the fashion industry, movies and music was always married. what the hell she’s talking about? the hair the make up its art. those people went to school to learn their craft. the pop and movie stars are just the canvas. the business has always been like this its just in your face now 24/7 because of technology. she just hating because no one cares about her ass. if she was important like the beyonce, rihanna or gaga she would never be saying this

  8. xedos December 16, 2013

the record label is correct. i would sign a star than someone who can sing like Whitney, but doesn’t have star qualities. Go on any block you can fine 10 out of 10 singers, but you would be lucky if you find a star. starts is what bring in the money. its a business. ugly people don’t sell music or product

  9. LUCKY LEFTY December 16, 2013

FAILLE VARNER IS JUST MAD BECAUSE HER ALBUM SOLD 30K EVEN JHENES EP OUTSOLD HER LOL

  10. xedos December 16, 2013

People are not interested in boring ass singers. You need stars who can crossover on all different medium
They always talk shyt about these pop stars, but fail to realize that the label their on stay afloat by these pop stars.llots of these so call artist would not get a contract because the label would not have money to sign them. just imagine if Justine Bieber or rihanna was not on Def Jam. Epic would love to have one of these pop stars or else they would not be talking about cutting artist from the label. so elle is biting the hand that’s paying her.she hasn’t make any money for her label as yet. most likely some pop stars is keeping her label afloat.

Its always the broke ones and jealous b****** always complaining I as a consumer dont want to see unattractive person singing I dont want to see or picture whoopie goldbourne singing rude boy or all the single ladies elle shut the hell up u can sing but u will never be a star like b or ri when will these girl learn it takes more than a voice to be a star

I understand her, BUT I also have to say: I don’t know about it 100%…..I mean, it is what it is…XEDOS says it best here!

Oh please. All of you hoodrats need to shut the hell up because you know Elle varner is right. You are all just a bunch of ass kissers of Beyonce, Rihanna, And Gaga and none of these women have a inch of talent except for beyonce. You call her boring for not doing over the top s*** like Rihanna and Beyonce, well Id rather support the “Boring” artist than the the artists that sell their soul for a profit like Rihanna. I dont give a damn how many records those chicks sell, if their music aint good im not supporting them. I aint NEVER kissing nobodys ass like yall.

  14. brownlondon December 16, 2013

Agree it does take more than a voice to be a star beautiful face and a beautfiul body someone people can look up to physically.

Even if talennted for instance; someone like alicia keys would always outshine an emeli sande on looks alone. Shallow but true.

  15. Boss December 16, 2013

Love this woman. She the badest in the industry

  16. The Boy Toy December 16, 2013

Girl BAI. Step your music game up then MAYBE you could stomp with the big dogs. Either put up or shut up.

  17. Navy Commander December 16, 2013

Translation: “I CAN SING TOO! Why can’t I sell big numbers like bey?”

  18. MusicStan( Beyocne Ciara Rihanna Kelly Rowland Janet etc) December 16, 2013

some of yall sound so stupid!!! I see that yall are not getting what she is saying!!! What I got from it is Music used to be an art form where artists talk about social and realistic values in life! Artists Like Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Elle and others write music about life situation and love instead of materials thing like cars, clothes and money!!! You can tell she grow up in the era where Music was an art and expression and not about ppl bank account! Don’t get me wrong Ciara and Beyonce do talk about materials in some of their songs but they also about life and love if you listen to the lyrics of the song there is a message!! Like Mary j Blige she wasnt the best singer but the message behind the music was soooo strong it will have you thinking! So what Elle is saying to dumb it down for some of you is that Music is an art that can take you into the artist’s journey in life and it is suppose to give you a message about how to handle situation and not about the clothes, money and cars!!!! Pay Attention Youth of today

  19. Navy Commander December 16, 2013

Rihanna usually sings about love in her songs.

  20. Disappointed December 16, 2013

Y’all gotta be some of the most uneducated ppl on this Earth. That’s all.

I got her point but as far as we all know clothes, hair & makeup are done by creative people as well (designers, hairstylists and makeup artists).

So Elle Veezy Baby let’s focus on music. You got talent and looks so I highly suggest you go for it and leave them statements alone.
