Listen: Jason Derulo Covers Lorde’s ‘Royals’ For BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge”

Published: Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 by Rashad

‘Marry Me’ maestro Jason Derulo is enjoying quite the success on this side of the pond after launching multiple numbers from his latest album ‘Tattoos’ to hit status on official charts.

Now, after unveiling the steamy video for the tune ‘Trumpets’, the stage-blazer takes off on yet another promo run in support of the tune – the latest coming in the form of a visit to BBC Radio 1’s ‘Live Lounge’.

As is common affair there, Derulo lent a live version of his own song as well as an acoustic cover.  His pick?  2013 mega-hit ‘Royals’ by newcomer Lorde.

How did he fare?  You tell us?

We were pleasantly surprised by Derulo’s delivery on ‘Royals’.  By no means a vocally challenging song, it does require a bit of finesse to truly get the character of the song’s story told while not overdoing it.  A bit of a snooze in parts, but overall, well done.

Your thoughts?

“You can call me king b” I’m sorry,I had to laugh at that part. It sounds so odd switching the lyrics. Other than that, good job

He sounded better than I expected but was still a struggle strain. He just doesn’t have the soul but he uses what he has well.

Love me some JD, but sorry this was a fail on his part… I dunno I would have thought since he has a great voice he would have killed it… maybe it just needs to be sung by a female…

I loved how they did it on the voice
