Stars React To Grammy Nods / India Arie, Ciara & K. Michelle Address Respective Snubs

Published: Sunday 8th Dec 2013 by Rashad

With fans sounding off on the 2014 Grammy nominations’ snubs and surprises, the artists themselves have taken to social media all weekend long to lend their sought opinions on the tally.

Much to the dismay of fans, acts like Mariah Carey, Brandy, Ariana Grande, Ciara and Lady Gaga all saw their names omitted from the prospect of hearing the applause, applause, applause of Grammy audience members for their work(s) of the past year.  As of time reporting, some have kept mum on the topics while – as previously reported – Ciara and K. Michelle have weighed in.

See what everyone else had to say about their nominations and/or non-nominations:

Only India and K are fskw, but Songversation was seriously snubbed for Best R&B Album tho. I feel Alicia Keys and John Legend only got noms to give the category some credibility tbh. But Faith and TGT did not deserve any noms. If RCA would’ve released a couple more singles off Two Eleven, it would’ve had a stronger chance at being nominated. #Beautiful could’ve replaced Get Lucky in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and it could’ve got a Best Dance Recording nomination. Janelle Monáe was so wrongfully snubbed again. Keyshia could’ve replaced Faith in Best R&B Album and Lala Hathaway in Best R&B Performance for I Choose You. The Weeknd could’ve definitely replaced Anthony Hamilton tbh. But let’s talk about Ciara being snubbed. Don’t feed me that “sample/interpolation/cover” excuse. Otis won Best Rap Song and it heavily samples Try a Little Tenderness and Gold Digger samples I Got a Woman and won a Grammy. Ciara could’ve replaced a few of ppl for Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best R&B Song and Part II (On the Run) only got nominated because it’s Jay and Bey. It wasn’t even a single. I’m Out could’ve took it’s spot. Pusher Lover Girl and Get It Right weren’t singles either so why were they nominated. Body Party, Dirty Laundry, Lose to Win, Primetime, Fine China, Wicked Games or Q.U.E.E.N. could’ve took some of those spots.

Peopel should just keep quiet when they’re not nominated they just look salty and it brings more shame on you.

  7. GRUMP December 8, 2013

Lol like Mariah Carey is even checking for this flop award. She probably didn’t submit #beautiful and could care less.

  8. Truth December 8, 2013

Its all f***** up, but the black awards will recognize all who got snubbed.

Its a racial thing, its a money thing, and its a popularity thing that keeps deserving people off the nominations

  9. Antonio December 8, 2013

Lol then why was #Beautiful submitted for Song and Record of the Year as well as Best Pop/Duo Group Performance and Best Music Video. Already Home also got submitted for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

  10. miumiu December 8, 2013

I feel that Janelle Monae should definitely have been nominated for something. The Electric Lady is one of the albums of the year for sure, in any genre. If the release was too late for it to be eligible then that’s a real shame, especially since albums like “Red” were nominated for “Best Country Album.”

I think we can all agree that with decisions like that, the GRAMMY’s have become a bit of a joke.

  11. Caramelboi December 8, 2013

I am disappointed that a lot of the artist the were mentioned in the post and some of the comments weren’t nominated, but I am happy with a lot of the artist that the grammy committee recognized that hardly ever get the praise by ppl daily. I am glad they acknowledged good quaility albums and songs.

  12. Mark111 December 8, 2013

Ciara is the only one who’s not bitter, although her stans are. A Grammy is a big deal and has really sharpen up, not just anyone will get a nom (hint, Best Female Rapper.)

R&B is gonna have to step it’s game up and distance their selves from Hip Hop. R&B has become lazy to the extreme. “Let’s all work with the same 3 producers and writers” and that’s why no one buys your s***.

The Grammy’s are not about songs that are singles. Singles just happen to be the most nominated. If the song is good! it will be nominated.

Ciara is nominated for People’s choice and World music Awards, she should be happy with that.

  15. Tisha December 8, 2013

The rule used to be you never expected a grammy so you weren’t disappointed if you didn’t get one, you made the best music you could and were happy if the committee noticed it but if they didn’t – oh well.

A few of these singers look bitter. They weren’t owed a nominee and many of them certainly didn’t do anything to earn one.

  16. FAF December 8, 2013

They are a joke RIP grammys -2007 f*** who disagrees and those not nominated already have them so they will remain unbothered

  17. FAF December 8, 2013

Except K michelle who didn’t deserve it for her album, though I like her

  18. Queen Kelly December 8, 2013

Kelly Rowland should have been there for best R&B album

  19. JOHNVIDAL December 9, 2013

Only big disappointemnt is Janelle Monae´s snub. I mean, that´s the album of the year, or one of the albums of the year quality wise. And she didn´t even say anything.
If you get out of there Tayloer Swift and Katy Perry´s basic nominations, the list is pretty good. I´m even surprised they put Justin Timberlake in his place.
    The others are just bitter.

  20. MuiMui December 9, 2013

What do the Grammy go by,if they don’t consider a musicians sells and Chart success then in all fairness
what do they give Grammy,s for. When there are many who has sold and charted really great. Politic and popularity could that be it? And to give Beyonce a Grammy for “At Last” and that is Etta James song,
The Grammy can give their Grammy’s to whom ever they want to,but its still not Right or Fair to all the Musicians.

  21. clown December 9, 2013

Yes, That clown needs to go sit down somewhere with all her hood rat attributes.

  22. Justme December 9, 2013

Nobody says anything about Gloria Estefan’s TWO nominations. That’s what a true diva is for me, almost gone from the “public eye” but releasing huge records.

  23. TEAMGREATNESS December 9, 2013

TAMAR yes her Album screams GRAMMy’s from head to toe!!! So does n Justin Timberlake as for the rest….keep it moving. But I k new she would be nominated as soon as I heard “love and war”!!! #bestRnbAlbum #HatersCantDeal #SipsTeaNJoy

  24. IAMQueenHive December 9, 2013

I’ll give tamar her props she has been consistent with her songs unlike (cough) flop michelle I mean K.michelle, and she has to get at least one grammy
I hope nicki comes out with a female version of goodkidmadcity that’s the only way she gonna get some noms from here on out!!!

  25. anonymous December 9, 2013

@The Truth I doubt its a racial thing. I hate when people use the race card in situations like this. if this was about race than Tamar, Alicia, Fantasia, Faith, and Chrisette Michelle wouldnt have been nominated. some artists like Ciara and K Michelle are just not on the Grammy Level. Ciara has never been a great singer. she got famous because of her dancing and her looks, which is why the only grammy she won was for a music video. as for K Michelle, she is too ratchet for the Grammys. I dont think many people was surprised about her being ignored. her music is okay, but not grammy worthy and too ghetto. plus she always has a bad attitude. The only people Im surprised got snubbed is India Irie, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande.

  26. Koi December 9, 2013

yall pick on Ciara . You say that like she’s bitter she sounds fine with it , it also makes me feel for her because shes probably used to people doing this to her and discrediting her body party was a hit.

  27. True Facts December 9, 2013

So just because Ciara isn’t a powerhouse vocalist like Beyoncé, Fantasia or Adele means she isn’t worthy of winning a Grammy?! That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. No one is even talking about her winning a Grammy in any of the vocal categories. Her album received great reviews and Body Party was the most successful R&B song of the year, both critically and commercially, aside from Suit and Tie, Mirrors and Blurred lines. Hell even I’m Out received better reviews than Body Party tbh. Most critics even called it one of the albums highlights. Yeah, commercially, Ciara’s albums aren’t selling millions like they used to, but that’s no reason to discredit her. I feel the industry is biased towards Ciara at this point for some reason. She is a great live performer. She contributes heavily to the writing and production on her albums and is involved with her choreography. All she lacks is huge vocal range, but for the music she makes, her voice is perfect. I’m not saying she should’ve won, but she was definitely worthy of the nominations. This is a far worst snub than The Evolution being snubbed for 2008 Grammys in the same 4 categories #smh. Now I will admit, she and her team are incredibly lazy when it comes to promotion and marketing. Ciara could’ve had the biggest comeback of the year alongside JT tbh. This era started off great with Body Party but they got lazy when it came time to promote the album.
