The R&B King that is Trey Songz samples Teena Marie’s  ‘Ooo La La La’ on his brand new single ‘NaNa‘, released to the world minutes ago.

Standing as the surprise he teased yesterday, the cut sees the performer stick to the ‘baby-making R&B’ formula that he’s most renown for and serve a hook that screams hit.

Unfortunately, despite its infectious vibe, the jam’s lyrics and verses let it down, with its production and Songz’ vocals demanding far more than the ‘I wanna get down tonight’ theme the cut served up.

Listen below…

Is ‘NaNa‘ a hot song? Yes. However, at this point in Songz’ career, ‘hot’ should no longer be an option.

For, while nothing can take away from his talent, it does find itself placed on the back burner every time Trey opts out of employing the harmonies, metaphors and instrumentation that would have taken the number to another level.

A level, that would have seen him maintain the cut’s ‘Contemporary’ / ‘Club’ feel while serving it a healthy dose of ‘high end.’

See below…

In an age where many a smash hit finds itself forgotten no more than a year after release, we wonder if ‘NaNa‘ has what it takes to stand the test of time, to become the kind of song that’ll see Songz‘ revered and remembered by music lovers in the distant future.

Will it?

Not bad, but I agree – he needs to come harder with some better material if he wants to sell albums. I am always glad to hear new R&B music with that being said.

the song is decent i guess..

“In an age where many a smash hit…” are y’all trying to say that Sorry was a smash (by putting tt right below e video)? Sorry has e potential to be a decent hit, def not a smash. i cannot see it being able to outperform Body Party in anyway

This guy needs to be a bit more experimental with his sound,he has the most uninventive music next to Ne-Yo and Kelly Rowland.Looking pretty doesnt cut it anymore!

Notice the industry trying to bring R. Kelly down so this not singing dude can have his spotlight. Sorry people Trey can’t sing, but in this day and age you can make it even with a horrible voice. All you do is what he’s doing show his body. Look how he poke his lips out like a female. LMAO

Anyway not feeling this song at all
