Performances: ‘Christmas At Rockefeller Center’ [Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Ariana Grande]

Published: Thursday 5th Dec 2013 by Rashad

Much to the joy of her faithful lambs, Grammy winning pop diva Mariah Carey brought a slew of Christmas classics to the 81st Annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting in New York City.

Joining a line-up that featured Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, and diva-in-training Ariana Grande, the diva pulled a two-for-two on the NBC-aired program with classics ‘Joy To the World’ and her holiday staple ‘All I Want For Christmas’.

Immediately after, Grande took to the stage to share her rendition of ‘Last Christmas’ and her song ‘Love Is Everything’.  See the sights and sounds of them all below:

P.S. – Mariah, Ariana, Kelly and Toni’s vocals were simply splendid…

Yes all these divas killed it! Ms. Mariah Carey Cannon proved why she’s not just talented by anointed to sing! Mary J. Blige keeping them strong vocals going after all these years! Toni Braxton is still a legend in my opinion and Ariana Grande proved why she’s a baby Mariah like it or not!!!

  2. Nichole December 4, 2013

    Mariah was so amazing tonight.

Her vocals were in top notch shape.

And omg…Jewel rocked it! Ariana did very well, as did MJB.

Everyone was so vocally on point.

    Kelly Clarkson is on now!

  3. raden December 5, 2013

  5. Jason December 5, 2013

  6. tits mcgee December 5, 2013

mariah’s voice was on point on both songs. she gave me life with her voice, costumes and her world famous diva hand! lol! so good! everyone else did good too! great showing..

  7. Outkast December 5, 2013

it was so funny. its like the invited even mariah impersonator and she was ready to show them why she is THE BEST VOCALIST ALIVE on the planet and that they will only be 2nd rate to her..

congrats mariah. bring the same effort and energy to every performance!

  8. P. December 5, 2013

Ya’ll are stupidly hypocritical. Posting about how “on-point” and “awesome” Mariah’s vocals were but couldn’t muster up the f**** to purchase “The Art of Letting Go.”

Get it together you part-time stans and support your so-called “fave.”

Toni and Babyface sung everybody under Rockefeller Center and you will deal or perish trying.

    Bye.

  9. tits mcgee December 5, 2013

ariana is a sweetheart. i think she will be a real force to reckon with.

Damn they stepped their game up this year – usually this Xmas special is a mess! Ariana Grande sounded incredible, and that live showing makes me like that song so much more! And not a Lamb, but I respect Mariah so much when she comes and does her thing properly. She sounded great tonight and did not look too uncomfortable! Props girl!

    • Ismaeel December 5, 2013

Hahahahha!! Can’t forget that Naomi quote, Amazing name… 😀

      • Check Your Lipstick Before You Come & Talk To Me December 5, 2013

Thank you love! I live for that quote haha.

  11. Check Your Lipstick Before You Come & Talk To Me December 5, 2013

TGJ needs to post the Toni Braxton/Babyface video of Have Yourself… on here and get rid of that pic of them! Toni showed us that voice, and reminded us why it would be a damn shame if she retired from singing!

  12. Check Your Lipstick Before You Come & Talk To Me December 5, 2013

Am I the only one who thought Leona Lewis sounded a bit of a mess? She looked and sounded uncomfortable as all hell. She will have a tough time having a successful career moving forward in my opinion. Kelly Clarkson on the other hand rocked that stage, and she is pregnant.

  13. Common Sense December 5, 2013

Was she sick? Usually when she has a cold her whistle is more easily accessed and she has more trouble belting, and both things were happening here. Either way she sounded fantastic.

  14. stephy tha lambily December 5, 2013

Keep up the good work Mimi. You sounded good but not great. I see you are now taking your voice serious. Mariah did NOT lip at all & she added high notes with chest vocals. But its still not great but if she keeps up the discipline of training her voice IT WILL COME BACK STRONG. Also, please Mariah keep this REGAL/Grown Woman style going. I hate seeing you dressing like a s*** at the age of 45…

Ariana Killed Her Vocals & Mary J Blige Did Good.

Leona Lewis Was Kinda Good But That Song Is Forgettable…

Everyone else did great tho exspecially that random black opera singer SHE F****** SLAYED

  15. DOSSOME December 5, 2013

This is the most number of actual singers and true vocalists i’ve seen in one place in a long time…DAMN,Mariah does pull that diva look very well.Probably the only artist that can stand on one spot but still give a really enjoyable performance.

  16. JOHNVIDAL December 5, 2013

    @dossome
I miss you so much. There´s not one real music lovers left here!!! Well a few leave a comment once in a while. But nothing else. You wouldn´t believe the things you can read on this blog nowadays. The kids took over.

  17. JOHNVIDAL December 5, 2013

    Go Mariah GOOOO!!!!!!
Can´t wait for the album. One of the few true greats we´ve got left.

  18. Mark111 December 5, 2013

Everyone did great, even MC, but I will never get why some call her the greatest vocalist when she sounded no better then the rest on here. Yes she’s good, but her fans act like she’s just hit her notes at ease when that’s farthest from the truth.

  19. DOSSOME December 5, 2013

@JOHN…I miss u more…i know the comment section here is juvenile run but hey,it’s been that way for years only that this time the grown ups hardly comment,SMH..

@Mark111..obviously you stay 4getting you stan for rihanna, whose most memorable live performance was her attempt at singing mariah’s hero.Opinions and criticisms about vocals (especially mariah’s vocals) from your kind sure can’t be entertained.be wise, stick to your level, celebrate that joke of an icon award rihanna got and stick to that lane

  20. Hunty Child December 5, 2013

See People…THAT’s Why Mariah Carey Is The Greatest Voice On The Planet…She Was Phenomenal Tonight…Her Best Show Out In A While…Can’t Wait For Her 2 Start Promoting The Album. #AMAZING P.S…Ariana Was Okay…But Boring RIGHT?? I Think She Lacks Height…Curves…Personality…And Almost Everything That Mariah Has…NO Shade.

  21. cocobutta December 5, 2013

    DAMN

    ALLLLLL OF THEM SOUNDED EXCELLENT!!!

  22. CARMEN (ULTRAVIOLENCE – 2014) December 5, 2013

my favourite performance was Toni and Babyface! it was simply beautiful!

  23. MC!!!!! December 5, 2013

    Mariah is the songbird supreme!!

  24. RoyalKev December 5, 2013

Mariah sounded great! Her classics songs for this time of year will always be a major part of Christmas! Btw, she looks absolutely amazing in that white dress!

It’s always a pleasant listening experience with Ariana. She’s just terrific! Her future is very bright!

Toni is everything! Still very sophisticated, sensual and sultry! I just love her! I swear she could sing the alphabets and it will sound like a love song. Such a romantic voice! Her and Face are Legends!

Kelly & Mary were great too!
    Great vocal showing for everyone!

  25. Theman December 5, 2013

It’s Mariah’s runs ,technique, placement, artistry & vocal tone that sets her apart from the others. They simply just dont do what she does..

  26. rod grey December 5, 2013

The performance of the night went to Toni
She was the best by far
i felt every note deep down

  27. LaDiva December 5, 2013

These were all great. Mary J. chose a much better song to sing!

Mariah slayed, and interesting that she was on a show full of singers who have been quite vocal about her influence, and you can see it…

Kelly did fantastic too.. I wish there would have been a picture with all of them, but I know Queen Mariah would have never went for that, lol.

  28. Titi December 5, 2013

Mary J. Blah is horrible. She is always off key and flat. Yuck. She has no vocal range, and her “thing” is to growl and scream. I

  29. soulmusiclover December 5, 2013

awww man! look how amazing mariah sounded and looked! she’s such a diva!! and that voice is just!!!! i don’t even have words!! I LOVE MY MARIAH!!

  30. BrownSuga December 5, 2013

It’s so nice to watch a string of performances where everybody did great.

I have nothing to critic here and that’s the greatest thing.

Must say to Mary J that the song she sung suits her to a tee

  31. Adrian December 6, 2013

Well then no offense but you are basic as hell. Mariah and Whitney completely take songs and skyrocket them to new levels that any other singer could only dream of doing. Mariah does crazy sh*t that makes you stop and think how or why she even thought of doing it. She is the QUEEN of switching up her songs and singing them in unique ways. Besides her range (lower than Toni Braxton and almost as high as the piano can go) she is a songwriter with an amazing ear for melody. THAT’S why everyone calls Mariah the greatest vocalist. Get your sh*t together.

  32. jt December 6, 2013

You’re right. I couldn’t believe how bad she was. I was embarrassed for her.
