New Song: Kelis – ‘Rumble’

As Kelis continues cooking new album ‘Food’ (due April 22nd), the singer is giving fans an early taste by way of lead single ‘Rumble’.

Produced by Dave Sitek (who also executive produced the entire project), the track was premiered moments ago on Pitch Fork.

A marked departure from the EDM that has defined her discography in recent years, the track re-connects the eclectic songstress with a more organic soulful sound.

Feast on new Kelis after the jump…

Refreshing!

Granted the track doesn’t scream “hey, I’m back”, it does – with its sonically soothing sound – highlight why Ms. Rogers has lasted almost 15 years in the industry. Beyond being uber experimental, she is also consistently consistent in  serving up quality material.

That said, here’s hoping the album’s remaining cuts cause more of a rumble on first listen. For no other reason than the fact that the industry remains ultra competitive – more soul-filled lane Kelis is now playing in.

Uhhmmm it’s OK I guess. I cannot wait to see by how many copies she’ll sell more than Ciara.

Nice groovy reminds of the sound That Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings have a little bit.

It’s nice but feels a little sparse… The vocals and instrumentals are smooth. I guess I was hoping for something a little more funky.

It’s okay, I’m a big kelis Stan and I’ve followed her through everything but this was very empty and basic. I’m not sure I see the vision quite yet which is good and bad. It’s good cuz it shows Kelis is a true original and always ahead of the game but it shows she has no concern with trying to actually “SELL” records. FYI Fleshtone was amazing and Rihanna Quickly stole Calvin Harris after hearing his work on it. Kelis keeps the haters and thieves active

Hmmm! it’s a grower for sure. I like the fact that the vocals are not too complicated and yet still soothing, almost. <3

    Kelis always keeps it fresh.

But the haters and naysayers will always overlook her talent.

Shame because she starts so many trends.

Very nice. Sounds like something Macy Gray would record, but I like it. I’m sure it will grow on me as I do like soul music.

    I liked it

Kelis is my favorite artist EVER, so of course I love it.

Biases aside, Kelis has always switched up her flow record to record, however on this record she really pulled a 180 and went from electro EDM bangers to straight old-school folksy soul music….the lack of transition is kind of crazy but I still embrace any new Kelis I can get.
