Nine years.
It’s astounding to think that almost a decade has passed since Missy Elliott last blessed the charts with a new album.
The hit-making rapper has maintained a low profile, choosing in recent years to primarily produce for others. And while 2012 brought with it new material in the form of new songs ‘Triple Threat’ and ‘9th inning’ (both produced by longtime production parter Timbaland), the parent album ‘Block Party’ has yet to hit stores.
During a recent interview on The Yo Show on Yahoo, Elliott explained at length the reasons for her hiatus and offered an update on her comeback.

In recent years, for one reason or another the female rap scene has become monopolized. Therefore, Missy’s return remains hotly anticipated for yours truly — and clearly so many others. She is “the” blueprint.

Missy Elliott is the only past artist to come back and I strongly think would do well. She is up there with Lauryn Hill when it comes to female rap artist selling status.

It’s one thing to take your time and do it right and it’s another thing to drag your heels. After a while the anticipation evaporates and people move on to something else. In other words, she needs to hurry up.

‘Supa Dupa Fly’ is still one of my favourite albums of all time.
Not only her many artist from the early 2000 era keep saying the same thing and actually that looses their chances of actually having a succesfull comeback and album to that as well…this is why that music industry very fickle its not consistant only the greats survive.
Here is something you may not know. When a person is asked a question, and they look to the left while contemplating their answer………..its a lie. Psychology and science have proven this to be true. If you are making something up or fabricating something, you look to the left. If you are being honest or telling something based on a real event, you look to the right. Police and FBI use this in interviews and interrogations. You can use it with friends and family.
That being said, when asked anything about a new album…….our girl Missy looked off to the left for most of her replies. Based on science, that would mean she is making up her replies and has no idea if and when she will come up with anything new or release a new album. When she was discussing Faith Evans, she looked straight on and to the right, which means that part of the interview was true.
I tried to have lenience with the artist from the 90s and early 2000 era but I think most of their time is up and they just need to retire, rather than coming out with a album after 10 years and think your going to regain your status and popularity its not gonna work.Sorry missy but I cant see you filling out a whole stadium with a new album after 10 years.
For ya’ll that are saying Missy will flop, please stop trying to predict these artist future, I think she might be huge whenever she decided to come out with new music…. they are some people who want more female mc’s to shine beside nicki, don’t get me wrong nicki has been and still is doing her thing but with all these male mc’s out and little to none females out the competition is boring.. hence why nicki is other things in her career, I personally think if there are more female mc’s that are in the limelight nicki would work hard on her album…. it would be fun to see the competition in the female mc’s

I really want to hear song “Murder She Wrote” with Lil Kim & Eve. Definitely want to hear new music from Missy & Kim. I really liked her song “9th Inning” but she has had health problems & record label problems that did not promote her right.
the reason why EVE didnt sell was because stores didnt carry her album it took me a month 2 actually find the album at a best buy store her LP was like it never even came out since she did it independently but im sure she profited off what was shipped!
