Watch: Ashanti Performs ‘I Got It’ & ‘First Real Love’ On ‘106 & Park’

As at writing, Ashanti’s ‘Braveheart’ album currently sits at #17 on the iTunes tally.

So what better time than the present to hit the promo trail in a bid to give the LP (her first independent effort) a much-needed boost.

The Grammy winning singer took front-stage center on BET’s 106 & Park this week, where she offered up a medley of current single ‘I Got It’ and confirmed follow-up ‘First Real Love’.

Watch Ms. Douglas dance up a storm below…

Kudos where due, the former INC front-woman clearly is keen to serve up more than the “usual” – hence  garners an “A” for effort.

That said, despite the super strides she’s made since her first choreographed outing (‘Only U’), there remains a lack of fluidity and/or confidence with how the choreo translates. It’s almost as if she’s counting the steps in her head (“1, 2, 3, pop…4, 5, 6 squat”). Certainly made for an uncomfortable watch and evidence, if anything, that not all acts necessarily need to burn up the dancefloor to make a statement.

Indeed, we’d much rather hear more of the leaps Ashanti has made as a live vocalist instead.

    She killed it! Good job

  2. PRINCE CARTER FENTY March 7, 2014

Making a song called ‘I Got It’ but your predicted album sales are 8k-11k. Kii. 🙂

  3. Lovebird March 7, 2014

Well for an independent release, she did higher than EvE’s Lip Lock (8K), Dawn Richard’s Golden Heart (7K), Jason Derulo’s Tattoos (8K), Jay Sean (8K) and Lana Del Rey’s Lizzy Grant.

The downside is she’s now Ciara’s lesser.

  4. Lovebird March 7, 2014

Well at least she has platinum albums to her name, Kelly Rowland has been trying for 10 years now and still cannot get a platinum album.

  5. Kisses Down Low March 7, 2014

    You stay pressed by Kelly.

  6. BeYAWNce March 7, 2014

You go Gurl. Rock the show

  7. Realest March 7, 2014

Lovebird just trolls every post. And IMMEDIATELY, at that!! It’s like damn bro, you stay shading other posters calling them “bottoms” etc yet you conduct yourself like a miserable, miserabl female.? Ok. You have literally way too much down time.

  8. Lovebird March 7, 2014

I don’t remember giving you permission to speak.

  9. DIGGER BEY March 7, 2014

Lmao AngryBird stayyyyyyyyyyyyy miserable & pressed. The No Life C*nt doesn’t have an life so he trolls TGJ 24/7 Lmaoooooo. Anyway, Get it Shani. I give her an E for Effort.

  10. DIGGER BEY March 7, 2014

And someone with no label home isn’t going to make major moves on the charts anyway. If Ashanti wouldve had an label backing her, I think she wouldve did somewhere between 50k and 100k.

  11. Ashitty March 7, 2014

Tired ass vocals all these years and she still s*****

  12. Navy Commander March 7, 2014

    She did good.

But 106 won’t get her the sales she needs .

  13. Comptons Finest March 7, 2014

Ashanti did a good job, not everyone is gonna be as fluid when it comes to dancing but vocally she was good. She needs some day time and some late night show performances to let people know this album is out cause outside of the Internet I haven’t seen any type of promo and without a hit single(on the R&B charts or billboard 100) she needs to be on her grind big time.

  14. Mike March 7, 2014

This is probably one of her best performances! Her vocals are SO much better nowadays and the dancing has gotten a lot better! Its clear that she’s been getting vocal/dancing lessons. You’re getting there, Ashanti! Hopefully her next album is with a major, even though this album was her second best behind “Ashanti”. Keep up the hard work! Proud of you.

  15. CICI LOVER March 7, 2014

THE ALBUM IS AMAZING I DIDN’T EXPECT THAT!

  16. Mike March 7, 2014

    That is correct!
Ashanti has had THREE out of FOUR albums go platinum…not counting this one since its run has just started…but nevertheless, 3/5 (including Braveheart) is pretty good.

  17. _yessir March 7, 2014

Y’all are so SAD lmao. You CLEARLY neglected to mentioned she will be debuting at number ONE on the R&B Album charts next week on billboard. Sure, she’s not number one on the billboard 200 but it’s still a number one album nonetheless. Also, where you guys got 8k is BEYOND me. She was predicted to sell 18-21k but it seems she may sell more.

  18. Navy Commander March 7, 2014

Pharell need to be promoting his album also..

  19. the real Truth Tea March 7, 2014

I Loved that performance ahd her album is brilliant and getting great reviews, im here for you Ashanti, keep grinding CEO! True Boss, running her own ship and this is truly how Black artist will survive and bring back R&B by finally building and owning our own industry where we no longer have to rely on someone else to market and promote us, steele our money then leave us broke, high and dry and bankrupt!

  20. KREESHA TURNER STAN March 7, 2014

    Ashanti killed this!!!

The “BraveHeart” album is not so bad! I rate it 8/10.
And this is probably her best performance showcasing her vocal ability.

I really feel like R&B is slowly coming back with the female side. And especially this new wave of Jhene Aiko, Tinashe, Mila J, Sevyn Streeter and Kreesha Turner.

    WOW! I’m excited!

Note: Mila J (Smoke, Drink, BreakUp), Tinashe (2 On) and Kreesha Turner (Bad) I think will be debuting each of their own new videos next week!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Ciara, but prepare to get that weave snatched by Mila J!

  21. Mark111 March 7, 2014

Ashanti could never dance, that’s why the video was so chopped up, flashy and edited.

  22. Stephy Tha Lambily March 7, 2014

    Ashanti work gurl!

She is so strong for keep going & finally getting that album into stores great job babe! Her album had been pushed back since 2009

  23. Rosie March 7, 2014

Lana STAYS on Fagbird’s mind, even when her name or stans are nowhere to be found. The true definition of pressed.

  24. U fool March 7, 2014

Jay Sean is young money and Jason signed to a major

  25. anonymous March 7, 2014

She did great. I hope her album does well and I agree with Navy Commander about 106 & park not getting her the sales she needs. she needs to promote herself outside of BET.

  26. china March 7, 2014

Amazing, she looks happy n thats all that matters, she stil on the charts n she#paid

  27. OrangeJuiceInstead March 7, 2014

Ashanti’s sales are gonna be what they are gonna be. Promo or no promo.

She’s indie so I never expected a platinum album to be the outcome.
Congrats to her for being able to continue to do what she loves and do it on her own terms. true dat.

  32. kareem March 8, 2014

I like it for what it was

  33. Jamie March 8, 2014

Please keep Kelly Rowland’s name off of here. She’s waaay beyond this post and on a different level.

  34. IStanForYourFav March 8, 2014

I’m really hoping she can push 200,000 total. That would be amazing on an independent label since other major R&B acts push those numbers. I’ve already bought my physical copy. I plan to get my iTunes copy next week to help her out on second week sales. Props to Ashanti trying to dance. She seemed more focused on counting in her brain and her overall vocal performance. She has never sounded this good live. Kudos to Ashanti. #Braveheart

  35. beyugly March 8, 2014

106 & Flop?? She needs to promote her music on better shows than this

  36. Mark111 March 8, 2014

Isn’t 106 her target audience? Why the black shows or media is considered cheap or ghetto? You think a country artist diss the CMC or the County Music Awards? We need to respect our culture.

  37. n March 8, 2014

Often times we argue that artists are not selling. This is because of nobody else but us. We are brainwashed to believe that the artists who get to perform at the most prestigious award shows, etc are the BEST. But we fail to see that an arist’s success has noting to do with the quality of music he or she puts out. With that said, we must stop come on blogs and say who is going to flop and who is not, and support their music and other projects. SMH!!! I’ve heard so awesomeeeee music from artists who live in America that many Americans have never and will never hear and I’m not an American. So, don’t speak about which artists have been in the business for over 10 years and have not sold platinum because underneath the music industry is nasty and nepotism. If you live music support music legally, and don’t be apart of statistics!!
