With Glee’s final season nigh, the show’s most powerful voice Amber Riley is stepping out solo.

The singer-actress, who plays Mercedes on the FOX hit, selected The Queen Latifah Show as the stage to debut her brand new single ‘Colorblind’ on.

Written by hitmakers Claude Kelly and Emeli Sande, the haunting cut sees Riley serve up vocal fireworks aplenty.

Is it a hit, though? You be the judge after the jump…

We like. Although, we’re hoping she embraces a sound that allows the power of her voice to be paired with hooks and melodies that are more radio-ready. Think Jennifer Hudson’s ‘Spotlight’.

In any case, as longtime appreciators of Amber’s talent, we’re eager to see how her musical journey plays out.

Please get a new writer for your blog Sam. Radio-Ready? seriously how about radio-friendly, and out of all songs you choose Jennifer Hudson Spotlight?…#facepalm

    • Powder puff April 3, 2014

Spotlight was Jennifer Hudson’s biggest and only hit outside of dreamgirls

  2. Mimi carey April 3, 2014

Beautiful vocals and song. All it needs is a huge platform and pop radio will eat it up like All Of Me. Amber is a vocal beast

  3. Powder puff April 3, 2014

She can saaaang the song is pretty but kinda boring

  4. Baduizm05 April 3, 2014

I love her voice so much but I just wonder how much she’ll sell. We can say sales don’t matter but they kinda do if she wants to have a professional career.

  5. Skyfall April 3, 2014

Yes, she sounded good. She is the best singer off of glee, her Whitney Houston I Will Always love you cover was everything, But this song is an album filler not single material.

  6. QueenCeline April 3, 2014

    What a beautiful song.

    • ABC April 3, 2014

      Correction:
Rihanna would never record something so dry.
Rih has your minds. Stay pressed dummies.

  8. DD April 3, 2014

I love Amber Riley and glad she’s back on Glee full time. This song is fine but not the strongest introduction to the world as a premiere performer.

  9. Dev April 3, 2014

I love Ambers voice but I’m not sold on the song. Although i have to say that that it slays every song on Lea Michelle’s boring ass album

    • Sold….I’ll buy. April 3, 2014

I’m sure Amber will have more songs to come out. That will have you sold. She is without a doubt the best singer on that show

  10. She can do better then that April 3, 2014

boring she needs something that is going to “Pop” !

    • She’s a real singer and vocalist. April 3, 2014

What’s boring is those same old ”pop” songs. That’s boring! This is Amber first official single. Sure she has more upbeat songs to come.

  11. Girl bye to that outfit April 3, 2014

who the hell told her to wear that top ?? like she’s at an amusement park ?

    • When you can come and sing like her, then you can talk! April 3, 2014

Amber Riley can wear what ever the hell she wants. Got a problem?

  12. Navy Nick April 3, 2014

I will def be buying it, beautiful song….. SHE IS GREAT-PERIOD!

  13. mypenizfresh April 3, 2014

It’s a beautiful song, with a great idea behind it. Emeli Sande is an amazing artist/writer. What she writes isn’t for everyone, but Half of Me and this song compliment the artist well. I wish the best for amber, she’s got a very pure voice.

  14. Opps haters April 3, 2014

@ABC you mad stay mad…. Rihanna can’t f****** sing to save her life. You tried along with your little minion…. Girl, bye Amber Riley still winning no matter what!

  15. Naysayers April 3, 2014

Hush…..Oh don’t worry she’ll sell. Too talented not too.

In the day of Whitney’s “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, ballads like this were regularly sent to radio. Just because the landscape has changed over the years doesn’t mean Amber’s song isn’t single worthy. It’s time for music listeners and radio to open up again and not limit everything to pop-rock, rap and hip-hop.
