Rita Ora Covers ‘Elle’ Magazine / Reflects On Debut Album

Rita Ora leaves no promotional stone unturned this year, whipping up momentum for her brand new single and its parent album with her second ‘Elle‘ cover!

Rocking the publication’s May 2014 edition with a ‘stripped’ photo shoot, her time with the mag brought it with an honesty set to part opinion as Moses did the Red Sea, after she confessed that she “didn’t know what was she doing” when recording her UK debut LP.

Her words below…

On 2012’s ‘ORA‘:

“I didn’t know what the f*ck I was doing on my first album, let’s be honest. I was a kid having the time of my life. And I made a party album – party and bullsh*t.

‘This time, I’m still having a great time, but I’m in a great, loving place. Now I want people to see you can have fun and be in love at the same time.”

On her relationship with ‘Acceptable in the 80s‘ producer Calvin Harris:

“The fact that he got something out of me that I never thought I had. Yes, like falling in love. I just didn’t think I had it. I’d never experienced it before. And I was just like in the wilderness, thinking, “Will it ever happen?”

You’re more concerned about Lana than you are about Keyshia Cole’s last album going double aluminum.

      Keyshia’s a flop though…

She looks like trash and has no “it” factor. Why are you still trying to make Whora happen?

Well, at least she’s honest about it. I doubt it will part the Red Sea though! Beyonce stated that DC’s first album was too mature, Neo-Soul doesn’t suit a group of teens!

Rita’s comments only go to show what is wrong with the industry nowadays, they’re not developing true artistry. She should’ve been more aware of what sound and style she was going for. I heard people saying her first album sounded like one long polyphonic ringtone and this new song, to me, sounds like exactly the same thing.

Say what you want about Rihanna but we knew where she stood when she debuted with Caribbean flavoured urban jams. That’s given her a distinct edge because other acts can’t copy it…well, Miley tried, but anyway…

She’s never gonna get it right because her whole identity is wrapped around what Rihanna’s doing. And since Rihanna’s on break, she really has no sound to copy other than Beyonce but KNOWS she’ll fall wwwwwaaayyyy short. Rita’s awful, point. blank. and the period…

When was the last time labels actually invested in artistic development? I distinctly remember Rihanna’s debut with Pon de Replay back in 2005. Sure, she didn’t really have her own image back then and even though I liked her, I thought she wouldn’t last five years in the industry but look at how she came into her own after Good Girl Gone Bad. She’s only nine years into the game and she’s achieved so much because she’s set trends and is unique. Sadly, I can’t say the same about Miss Ora despite her obvious talent.
