An independent artist she may be, yet Ashanti continues to book stages her major label counterparts could only wish for as she promotes new album ‘Braveheart’.

The latest?

A spot singing the US National Anthem at the Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley boxing match over the weekend.

Tasked with nailing a song many deem “the” definitive benchmark for any “singer-singer”, how did Ms. Douglas fare?

Her performance of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ at the MGM Grand Las Vegas awaits with the answer…

Great performance.

Ashanti’s voice boasts underrated power and control – though not always showcased to the best of its ability. Indeed, despite not being an outright belter, the 33-year-old clearly knows her vocals well, and is able to navigate them to commendable places.

Solid showing.

She did that. Could of been better but oh well. Had braveheart came out when it was suppose to I think it could of actually Slayed a bit

  4. Touché April 14, 2014

Nice. Her vocals have improved so much.

  5. Yea ok April 14, 2014

No scooting across the floor like a dog in heat this time? Oh.

  6. Navy Nick April 14, 2014

That was really good; get it Ashanti!

  7. Realest April 14, 2014

Her falsetto notes were far clearer and more well executed than Riri’s “monster” DRYstravaganza’s! I don’t f*** with Shany like that but she has, at least somewhat VOCALLY gotten better since her best album “foolish” came out. The music is questionable but her growth is evident!! Unlike some others.

meaning the allotted is better but the vocal growth is super duper debatable (not concrete) and still minimal at best!!!

      • Realest April 14, 2014

        allotted music****

  8. Sassy April 14, 2014

Looks like someone got vocal classes. Well done.

  9. I miss talent April 14, 2014

Are we really gonna applaud these basic, whiney vocals? No wonder music has gone to the shitter!!!! Very unimpressive.

  10. ROSEGOLD April 14, 2014

It’s gonna be a no for me, sorry. She doesn’t do anything for me vocally……

  11. Todd April 14, 2014

I’m sorry y’all but those vocals were so shaky! She did not sound good, u can tell she’s more comfortable in the higher register because her lower notes are shaky as hell…thumbs down for me… She looks good tho

Great Job..sounded slightly flat at the beginning..but she has really improved..and it was a good arrangement

  14. quetta April 14, 2014

I love a shanties but no. It’s like every time an artist sings the star spangled banner they sing off key. A very good example would be keyisha Cole.

    • Sarah April 14, 2014

LOL i cant believe you would classify this performance with Keyshia’s performance LOL..tghat was tragic..this wasnt bad

      • quetta April 14, 2014

Lmao but it was not that good.

I grew to appreciate Ashanti’s vocals within the recent years, and the ‘artists’ we have been offered up. She does have a good tone, and understanding of her voice. I don’t think belting is her forte, but she did do a decent job. Her intro tho by the announcer.. while true made me side eye it a bit

    Go Ashanti! #Braveheart

  18. Um No, that is all… May 4, 2014

Dry. Flat. No character no umph. Sounds like a high school student rendition at homecoming
