Low register:Both
Mid belts: Whitney
Upper belts: Mariah
Head voice: Whitney
Whistle register/tones: Mariah
They were pretty much equal because they dominated in several different areas; neither one is completely beneath or above the other so there is no need to discredit.

Her sharing the stage with CeCe Winans showed that… No shade, but rich tone, she can have that, but powerful voice I guess in prime. She can’t sing anymore. Whitney’s vocals were over processed on her last tour and album yet she still didn’t sound decent. She is not the greatest. CeCe, Patti, Jill, Yolanda, and a few others have extremely powerful voices that outbelt Whitney on her best day.

Secondly, how dare you try to say that people on YouTube are singing Mariah’s songs better than her?!? That is a damn reach! No one can sing Mariah’s songs. It has been proven on all these reality singing competitions that the contestants should stay away from Mariah songs because they are damn near vocal s******! Just watch Jessica Sanchez singing “My all” on American Idol and then check her out singing “I will Always Love you” and try to tell me she didn’t have a much more difficult time singing My all than IWALY! Mariah is nowhere near Whitney as a performer. Whitney is a queen on the stage. She owns the stage like no other diva. However, Mariah May not be a great performer but as a vocalist she is superb. Even Whitney herself has spoken highly of Mariah. Beyonce, Brandy, Christina, Jordin Sparks, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, and Ariana Grande praise Mariah as a huge influence on them vocally. If she was no vocalist then today’s singers wouldn’t look up to them the way they do!!!
Thirdly, Mariah has most definitely proved herself as vocalist outside of the studio multiple times, even in 2013. Mariah’s high notes are no where near being “flat and airy”. Watch her Emotions performance on MTV unplugged. In fact, watch that entire Unplugged show and come back here with your pressed ass and try to deny her vocal abilities. That LIVE album remains the best selling live album of all time and her MTV unplugged remains the biggest one of all time.
In addition, I do agree that Mariah vocals TODAY sound overproduced and a bit manufactured but certainly not her vocals in her hey day! Watch her Daydream tour (Tokyo Dome and Rotterdam specifically) and Madison Square Garden and then come back with that BS. Mariah is a phenomenal vocalist and she still is today when she gets enough vocal rest. Also, you prove that you don’t know shiit about Mariah with the When You Believe reference because Mariah was most certainly NOT in her prime that year like you stated. Mariah’s voice deteriorated after 1996! WYB was recorded, released, and performed in 1998/1999. That was pretty much the peak of Mariah’s vocal decline.

It was a basketball game and the players and everyone were in shock at her vocal abilities. The commentators were even saying “the palace now has a queen”. Her 1992 performance of if it’s over was incredible as well.

Like I said, look up Jessica Sanchez struggling with My all and then watch her slaying I will always Love you + receiving standing ovation. First of all. Ariana Grande didn’t “murk” Emotions. It was obviously done in the studio. She couldn’t do it live and she can’t even execute the notes live. The fact that you’re trying to make it sound like Mariah’s songs are baby food is Beyonce me when professionals and her counterparts have been praising her for years. And Whitney herself doesn’t sound exactly the same way she does in the studio as she does on stage. Even if YOU watch her IWALY performances and listen to the studio version you’ll see the difference. Especially with the belts, they are more sustained in the studio than live. An no one said that there aren’t other gifted singers out there. There are people on YouTube and singing comps who are singing songs like ‘All the man that I need’, the Greatest Love of all, and ‘I have Nothing’ yet you wanna call out Mariah because other people sing their songs well!
