Mariah Carey To Perform & Receive Icon Honor At ‘World Music Awards 2014’

Published: Sunday 18th May 2014 by Sam

Despite sagging sales and even lower chart positions, Mariah Carey remains an icon in the eyes of millions.

As such, it’s little surprise the World Music Awards have named the diva as latest recipient of their aptly titled Icon Award.

Details after the jump….

Set to take place in Monte Carlo on May 27th, the show will honor the five-octave songbird for “having sold over 200 million records and having more No.1 singles in America than any other Solo Act”.

The singer will also perform at the event.

A major coup for Carey’s upcoming album ‘Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’, the promo spot will take place two days after the said LP hits stores.

And while some may question the logic in Mimi leaving her biggest market to perform abroad during the LP’s release week, the World Music Awards is broadcast to a global audience on over 180 networks. Thus providing a huge audience to promote the project.

Other performers on the night include Miley Cyrus, Jason Derulo, and Ricky Martin.

Randomness: The timing of this certainly reads are “interesting” given that another diva, a rival of Mimi’s, is receiving her own Icon honor at a different award show a week prior.

Were you born when she achieved all those stats? The Delusional Lambs loves bringing outthe 1960s and 70s achieachievements lol

      • Stephy Tha Lambily May 18, 2014

Yes, I was! Also, your delusional babe! Mariah Carey not even born during the 1960s & was just a baby during the 70s…

    • OKRO May 18, 2014

Jlo, F****** and everybody else >>>>>>>>>> Ci Error

  6. DGAF May 18, 2014

Mariah’s two new songs, “Thirsty” and “You Don’t Know What To Do” are fiyah ! I’ve heard some snippets of other songs and this album is gonna be good.

  7. Stephy Tha Lambily May 18, 2014

Now, lets dig into this article HATEmantha has written…

1.) “Despite sagging sales and even lower chart positions, Mariah Carey remains an icon in the eyes of millions.”

Well, Mariah Carey will always be a Icon whether she lip syncs while taking a shitt & eating Nick’s c** all at the same damn time. She has built a career many other artist can only dream of!

2.) “And while some may question the logic in Mimi leaving her biggest market to perform abroad during the LP’s release week”

This maybe true that her biggest market is AMERICA (where mostly ALL musicians biggest selling market is) you make it seem like Mariah has no impact or fans outside of America. This should refresh your memory on her success WORLDWIDE as a ALBUM/SINGLE (MOSTLY ALBUMS) SELLER in multiple countries…

    JPN: 20.4 million [Notes][7][8][39][78][79]
    UK: 10.335 million[9]
    GER: 7.250 million[10]
    FRA: 5.690 million[11][12][40]
    AUS: 4.255 million[Notes][13]
    CAN: 5.860 million[14]
    BRA: 2,820,000[15]
    ITA: 3,100,000[Notes][16]
    SWE: 1,425,000[17]
    SPA: 975,000[19][33][44][18]
    SWI: 515,000[20]
    BEL: 150,000[Notes][21][22]
    AUT: 200,000[23]
    POL: 100,000[Notes][24]

3.) “Randomness: The timing of this certainly reads are “interesting” given that another diva, a rival of Mimi’s, is receiving her own Icon honor at a different award show a week prior.”

You being a shady Queen as always Miss Sam! Jennifer Lopez & Mariah Carey NEVER was a rival! J-Lo was an entertainer (still is) & Mariah WAS an vocalist/songwriter (still writes). Mariah Carey only had a problem with J-Lo’s Management (Tommy) for stealing concepts & song idea’s during J-Ho’s trying to be black era. Also, Mariah Carey already received that OLD ass Award (they trying to rename) 15 years ago…

  8. Tyler May 18, 2014

Wait people in these comments still trying to shade Mariah Carey. Hold up lets get something straight… All of your favs are successful but NONE of them are as successful as Carey. NONE. 200 mill WW, 18 #1’s, 2 dimaond certifications. Not Beyonce, Perry, Gaga, Rhianna, MInaj, nor anyone (except for Madonna) has been equaled Mariah Carey’s success.

She’s a throwback only? riihggght. Touch my body 08, Obsessed 09, #Beautiful ’13 (platinum). She’s not in her PRIME, That’s obvious. It doesn’t come as easily. But the b**** can still get a hit on the charts. Except most of you insecure STANS try to bring up these weak recipts thinking they can compare to Mariah. It’s sad… because Ya’ll are really JUST THAT: INSECURE.

Ive never been one to COUNT OUT another Female artist just because I LOVE one more than another. Do you know how horrible that is for the music industry? And I’m glad that the insecure f**** on this website are a minority and that most people don’t come to s*** site to bash artist like it’s their day job.

Let’s also point out that Sam is so BIASED towards other artists. Its so obvious in his journalism. Its pretty bad. I love how this site has become HIM basically pitting artists against each other. He STANS for particular artists– as much as he tries to hide it comes out. JUST SO BAD. HAHA

  9. Realest May 18, 2014

There is no comparison between Mariah Carey and J.Lo and anyone who thinks there is clearly is young and ignorant to music and the music industry. J.Lo is great and all but Mariah is Mariah… You don’t even have to say her last name and you know it’s Mariah Carey. Kudos to her for another recognition of her legendary status

  10. Kelly Kelly stans Rihanna May 18, 2014

I’m glad she’s getting this. Especially after the performance of “you’re mine”.

This should give her some momentum

I don’t see why J. Lo is getting an Icon award. She hasn’t influenced a generation of stars or performers, and she hasn’t sold that many records or have a bunch of #1 hits. She deserves an award for her own personal artistic achievement, but “Icon”? I don’t see it.

  17. RihIcon May 18, 2014

Who wants to be j-lo when in 20+ years she has only sold 75m records #podat . Rih has outsold her in half the time as bey has also outsold her . And she cannot even compare to mariah

    • OKRO May 18, 2014

S*** Beyonce and Rihanna were inspired by Jlo’s style and grace. Who’s receiving the Icon award tonite? Neither of them. Goodbye.

      • RihIcon May 18, 2014

Not only have bey rih an mariah all revived icon type awards before, but they also have GRAMMYS unlike j flop #20yearsalessor

      • OMG Logic! May 18, 2014

Inspired by J.H**? LMAO! Girl the reach is never ending! Beyonce was inspired by mother Tina Turner’s style and grace. Rihanna was inspired by Mariah (as she herself has said).

  18. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 18, 2014

Some pressed ass bxtches on this post though. Btw, Mariah has received much bigger music awards than JLO so sit down.

    • OKRO May 18, 2014

  19. RihIcon May 18, 2014

    Artist Grammys years active
    Rihanna : 7 Grammys 10years
    Beyonce : 17 17years
    Mariah : 5 26years
    Jlo : 0 lmaooo 24years

    • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 18, 2014

Mariah is actually @ 24 years but yeah I agree JLO Stans need to stop with the delusions.

    • Stephy Tha Lambily May 18, 2014

Chile… The fact that Rihanna & Beyonce has more Grammy Awards than Mariah is interesting to say the less…

    • OKRO May 18, 2014

Rihanna’s are mostly duets and Beyonce’s are half DC’s. F****** lost because there were more talented vocalist during her days. Poor Mariah.

      • Stephy Tha Lambily May 18, 2014

J-HO has NONE! Tho.. Poor her…

      • OMG Logic! May 18, 2014

Mariah lost because some Canadian one hit wonder stole the show in 1996. Mariah would otherwise have 11 Grammys by now.

      • RihIcon May 18, 2014

Regardless j lo hasn’t managed to snag ONE

  20. OMG Logic! May 18, 2014

I will pray to all the Gods that Mariah goes on vocal rest for a a week or two and does daily vocal warmups. She cannot look like a damn fool at her own event.

    • RihIcon May 18, 2014

I hope so too because if she has a bad performance they will look bad for eve giving her the award

  21. iamdexxx May 18, 2014

This just made me laugh! JLO Billboards Icon Award Nominee known for weeks & all of a sudden this? yeah bitter much

    • Stephy Tha Lambily May 18, 2014

      delusional…

  22. ChrisTUNA AguiHAHA May 18, 2014

    Mariah is Living LEGEND

  23. Marcel May 19, 2014

The funny thing about all this is that Mariah is barely played internationally, she’s had just 2 No. 1 in England biggest european market, both were covers and one of those went to No. 1 just because of Westlife. Sure Mariah is a big name though still we all know awards are paid for, and Mariah is way shy to the 200 million albums sold mark; just do some maths: 1997 after the peal of her career and while loosing her voice forever, her ww albums sold mark was officially less than 100 million. After That year, she’s just had one album selling well (TEOM) and 2 doing just ok (butterfly and rainbow) The rest (Glitter, Charm, e=mc2, memoirs an MC2u have been big flops, not to mention her compilation albums That haven’t sell as planned but now, publicity tells she’s at 200 million: yeah, sure. Just another made up story like calling her an amazing singer (when we all know she’s not longer good) or proclaming herself a composer when we all know as well she’s not, there are plenty of evidence That she pays for having credit as one, and then real composers have to sign a confidential agreement. What ever. Congrats MC.
