Having conquered the charts, Katy Perry is looking to make a major mark on the music business with quite the power play.
For, the ‘Dark Horse’ singer has revealed that she is launching her own record label.

The surprise move was announced by Perry on Twitter moments ago. There, she wrote:
I am so ECSTATIC to finally announce my NEW label Metamorphosis Music & my first signing, the incredibly talented & soulful FERRAS! @ferras
Shortly after, the 29-year-old posted the label’s logo on her Instagram with the caption:

Congrats to Katy. As much stick as she gets from some sects, there’s something to be said for an act that realizes the importance of diversifying their brand. Chart dominance doesn’t last forever. Hence, it makes ample sense to have one’s hand in as many pots as possible — stirring them all.
That said…
Are we the only ones somewhat alarmed? For, as inoffensive as Ms. Perry is, this all feels fairly…rushed. After all, despite amassing hit after hit, there’s no hiding the struggle that are her live vocals. And while her sales are indeed solid, they seem indicative of an act who still has room to get better and bigger.
Put simply, why is there such haste to become a jack of all trades, when – at this point – Perry is a master of nothing? Echoing the point above, we’re all for diversifying one’s brand. Yet, when there’s so much work to be done on self (see: stage presence, live vocals), is it really worth diving time that could be spent bettering self to spend on other artists? In any case, what’s done is done. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
More than anything, it could always be worse. It could be Rihanna.

MC had a lable, crashed and burned. Usher had a label, crashed and burned, hell even MJ had a lable… crashed and burned (other than his HIStory album and the Free Willy soundtrack.) So good luck Ms Katy.
