Iggy Azalea Set To Earn $5 Million In 2014 / Label Announce Plans To Make Her The “Biggest Star”

Winning.

Say what you may about Iggy Azalea, but that’s exactly what the femcee is doing. Winning.

After a steady grind, the Australian-bred rapper found global success with breakout smash ‘Fancy’ and looks set to replicate with follow-up ‘Black Widow (ft. Rita Ora)’.

Beyond the charts, the 23-year-old has also become a magnet for endorsement deals, festivals, and more recently touring agents; a fact which has evoked cheers from some corners and critique from others.

Whatever folk’s stance, it’s clear her star is on the rise – especially after an intriguing new article from Billboard on her meteoric ascent and plans for the future.

The piece potently sews together quotes from Azalea’s label, Def Jam, touring agents, and branding consultants about the roadmap for her career this year. A map, sources close to her camp say is set to lead the performer to a $5 Million pay day by the end of 2014.

Check out excepts below…

Via Billboard:

Based on her projected royalty rates from two big radio hits and a sold-out tour of clubs and theaters, Azalea will likely pull in $3 million to $5 million in earnings in 2014, sources suggest. And an attempt to leap to the next level is imminent.

Cara Lewis, Azalea’s agent at Creative Artists Agency, says the first leg of a 2015 arena tour already is being routed, and talks are underway with potential brand partners to integrate into the tour. “Iggy’s management team is comprised of all women, and we are in sync as a group when it comes to long-term visions and choosing the right partners,” says Lewis. “There is a lot of attention from the beauty genre, including makeup, hair and skin products.”

“We have in the works multiple promotional, marketing and media opportunities designed to solidify her status as one of today’s biggest stars,” says Steve Bartels, CEO of Def Jam Recordings. “On the brand side we’re vetting and presenting deals that are a creative match.”

Branding experts estimate that Azalea could command mid- to high-six-figures for the right campaign, and potentially more as her stock grows. “Over the past three months, we’ve gotten more inquiries [about her] than any other female artist,” says Ryan Schinman, CEO of music licensing and entertainment marketing firm Platinum Rye. “She’s not as controversial as Miley Cyrus, and she would make a terrific spokesperson for the right products.”

Interestingly, the article plays down the longterm efforts of the backlash Azalea received following Nicki Minaj‘s “no, no, no shade” speech at the BET Awards back in June. Indeed, one artist manager is quoted as saying:

“When you look at a lot of pop superstars, Rihanna’s not known to be a songwriter but she has incredible credibility when it comes to fashion and being able to move the cultural needles. To fans and brands, I don’t think that matters much.”

****************

A long, yet fascinating read. New times really are nigh, and Iggy serves as quite the marker for that.

Indeed, here we have an act who is solidifying herself as a hit vendor – yet the very source of her hits (debut LP ‘The New Classic’) has only enjoyed soft-sales and is nowhere to be found on the album tally. And that’s not “shade”, it’s actually a positive observation.

For, she has time to build a base big enough to sustain an album. and we’re confident she will succeed in establishing a mass set of fans. Because, unlike other “singles artists” ala Flo Rida and co, Iggy’s music is of a decent quality and does resonate for more than five minutes. What’s intriguing about her whole narrative is that she’ll be building that base while being 360 marketed as the major act she aims to be.

As the age old adage goes, “speak it into existence”. Or, in this case, milk it into existence. More power to her!

She’ll be a millionaire by New Year’s…you? AND if they checked for these other scary bishes, they’ll check for her 😉

    • the voice August 6, 2014

Exactly. She is in the Pitbull & Flo Rida category.

She is a singles artist but she can do a lot with that brand. Pitbull has been smart and made a lot of money.

However, she is not in the Drake, Nicki, TI, Wayne, Jayz, Eminem, Kanye category. Those rap artists sell ALBUMS …

I do give her team credit for her great promo …. but she is nothing more than a singles artist.

I hope Def Jam have some black artists they will also give those promo crossover dollars too. HipHop has always been crossover.

How are they going to come for Rihanna with their white-washed Wayans brother looking rapper?

Look how quickly Miley rose and peaked trying to mock blacks while using their entire style to transform her career. The same will happen to Iggy, so they better get her on some endorsement deals quickly for the suburban kid’s who’s parents won’t be afraid of a white rapper.

    • FAF August 5, 2014

      They didn’t come for her. She’s not a songwriter that’s a fact

  9. Beysus August 5, 2014

    LOL bye b****…

  10. Marley August 5, 2014

Bye! She’ll be washed up by next year

  11. Tisha August 5, 2014

The reason they’re downplaying it Sam is because Iggy isn’t a rapper.

    She’s a marketing tool.

Look at Nicki’s career. She was putting out mix tapes, she was being featured on everyone’s albums, she was putting out her own album and seeking big numbers.

This chick has done like 4 songs with T.I., put out a low-selling album, and worked with Rita (Struggle-On) Ora and Ariana (almost flopped her way back to Nick) Grande. All I’m hearing from her team is how much she’s good for selling products and how they plan to market her career with 0 talk about the music or instrumentality of rapping.

Like I said before it’s a good plan but she’ll peak and flatline hard once the white kid’s get bored and the black kid’s arent there for the bullsht (Miley Cyrus).

  12. #TeamTinashe Stan (BUY “2 On” NOW) August 5, 2014

They’re trying to have Macklemore as The King of Hip Hop, Ariana Grande love her but their going to try to put her as The Queen of R&B/Pop and then Iggy Azalea as the Queen of Hip Hop!
    Sad but true!

  13. Realest August 5, 2014

Again it says “one artists manager says” it doesn’t say IggyAzalea’s manager says. Clearly if it was ugh us manager they wouldn’t have used Rihanna as an example, especially when trying to get Azalea credit in the hip hop world. Duh. Use your brains. That statement is commentary from an industry manager unrelated to Iggy.

  14. truth (icki is the QWEEN OF PUSHBACK!! Iggy got her scuured honey. #IckiAFlop) August 5, 2014

When will nicki?? *blows nails dry

    • Tisha August 5, 2014

      • You Stupid August 5, 2014

        That’s a read!

  15. TRUTH SERUM August 5, 2014

I hate when they try and compare her talent to Rihanna’s… Rih is nothing like her and I’m a Bey Stan… Lol

  16. LB (35Keryl Tweedy) August 5, 2014

Noooooooo they’ve already exposed her ghost writer LMAO….it took Kim a couple of albums before they exposed her ghost writer, it took Igor one single….I’m dying

  17. maledragabitch August 5, 2014

TGJ posted this same story last week yall love trying to come for Iggy

  18. Thot August 5, 2014

Rap was founded upon writing your own s***. Singers have always had writers. Iggy gets no respect from The hip hop community by having ghost writers.

  19. S****** Blonde August 5, 2014

The only rapper who became at some point ‘The biggest star’ was Emimem, not other rapper male or female has that kind of success, impact on popular culture and acclaim, not even 2pac or Notorious, i doubt a female rapper would have that kind of success, even Minaj who is the reason why all these girls wants to rap (she made it trendy AGAIN), wont’ be ‘The biggest star’, so, this girl can enjoy her ‘Payola’ hit for now and then go back to Australia, where white chicks with b*** inyections are cool, America does not need you, neither does Rap music, be gone, ta ta.

    • Valerie August 5, 2014

Eminem is not the King of rap. This is not pop. Rap is not about sales.

  20. Fancy BISH August 5, 2014

Get them coins Iggy! Don’t worry about these SCARY A$$ BISHES lol 😉

  21. LB (35Keryl Tweedy) August 5, 2014

To be honest, I’ve never heard any rapper say “I was inspired to rap by Eminem” regardless of how good Eminem is. Sure he is successful commercially but in terms of respect in the rap community, he is below Tupac and Biggie.

One thing you need to know about the Rap community, sales don’t mean jack there, they don’t care about that, they care about your flow, your rhymes…etc.

You go in a rap battle and brag about how many copies and they’ll be like “so what”? Different environment than the pop genre you’re used to.

    • S****** Blonde August 5, 2014

Pop environment i’m uset to, aren’t you a Rihanna fan, as for Eminem’s influences, he won’t be cited as a major influenced by black rappers because he is white, they would be dragged by the black community if they do so, simply as that.

      • LB (35Keryl Tweedy) August 5, 2014

“influenced by black rappers because he is white, they would be dragged by the black community if they do so, simply as that”

Screaming, or maybe because they do not connect with his psychotic suicidal rants. Maybe they don’t appreciate Eminem’s slagging of his mon when Tupac recognized her importance in his life.

If it was all down to skin color, the black community would not have accepted Eminem at all in the hip hop genre. He would have been slagged off as another Vanilla Ice, Iggy or Asher Roth. Who knows.

Stick to your Madonna obsessions and pop ramblings, you’re clearly out of depth when it comes to hip hop.

      • Valerie August 5, 2014

        Agreed @LB (35keryl Tweedy)

    • Child of destiny August 5, 2014

Eminem is well respected by the black/hip hop community because he can RAP. He’s great at free styling too. Tupac and Biggie are the kings of rap though. No one will ever come close. Eminem could sell one billion and he still won’t come close.

  22. Valerie August 5, 2014

Post on Joseline Hernandez remix of Flawless lol

  23. llawrence August 5, 2014

The biggest? TI has lost his mind, this lil white girl will never be the biggest ever in rap, r&b, country, gospel, you name it.

  24. MISHKA August 5, 2014

So she’s been given Rihanna’s seat on the Def Jam roster. Ghostwriting be dammed.

  25. You Stupid August 5, 2014

I like Fancy… But damn bish… I will respect ya when you come with more music and a demonstration of actual lyrical ability… Whether it be an actual freestyle, mixtape… SUM! I’m not here for yo Neutrogena, Aveeno, or ProActiv ads… We all kno that she is gonna replace TI and his crew once she gets what she wants… :files nails and waits for the h** to bite the hand that’s feeding her:
