‘Mannequin’ singer Katy Perry has been named the “coolest” Pop star among teens in a survey carried out by ‘Variety‘ magazine.
How she beat the likes of Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo, Lady GaGa and Beyonce to come out on top?
‘Variety’s findings below…
U.S. teenagers are more enamoured with YouTube stars than they are the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and music,” concludes Variety.
The entertainment newspaper ranked 20 of the top YouTube celebrities against an equal number of well-known Hollywood A-listers on a battery of questions “in terms of approachability, authenticity, and other criteria considered aspects of their overall influence.” A score out of 100 was assigned to each entertainer, which is ranked in the graphic below (YouTubers in Red).
These YouTube stars, however, are making significantly less than their Hollywood peers. Business Insider estimated the amount of money YouTubers make from views alone (not counting endorsements), and the richest, PewDiePie, makes about $8.47 million. Katy Perry, the ninth richest celebrity in the world, according to Forbes, raked in $40 million.
Placed at #9 on the tally above, Perry’s popularity not only saw her surpass efforts made by Pop rivals Rihanna and Ke$ha, but saw her beat a number of YouTube’s more bankable personalities with relative ease.
These, including the LA based TravieBased who boasts 642,556 subscribers, Vine’s Liane V who has 2.7 million followers on the outlet and YoMuscleBoii who enjoys the benefit of 698,490 YouTube subscribers.
