Chart Check: Nicki Minaj & Iggy Azalea Continue Tight Grips On Hot 100

The ladies are still running this mutha-!

For the second week in a row, every song in the top 5 of the Hot 100 is all female!  With acts like Meghan Trainor, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift leading the pack, there has been little switch-up from last week to this.  But, with a web of radio and digital spins aiding its ascension, Iggy Azalea‘s ‘Widow’ climbs into the thick of the action.

Does it pose much of a threat to the tally’s top placeholders?  See Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 below:

Billboard Hot 100

1. Meghan Trainor – ‘All About That Bass’

2. Taylor Swift – ‘Shake It Off’

3. Nicki Minaj – ‘Anaconda’

4. Iggy Azalea ft. Rita Ora – ‘Black Widow

5. Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande – ‘Bang Bang’

6. Sam Smith – ‘Stay With Me’

7. Ariana Grande – ‘Break Free’

8. Maroon 5 – ‘Maps’

9. MAGIC! – ‘Rude’

10. Charli XCX – ‘Boom Clap’

Iggy is about to take Flopnika Garbaj’s spot and bump her out of the industry. I told you karma is coming for that b****. Bwahahahahahaha.

Yayyy for da ladies holding it down. And its great to see 2 female rappers in the top 5. Let them record companies know that yes theycaneb chart toppers too. Hope this births more rappers signed. It was a herculean feat but Nicki did it, she single handledly revived the female rappers.

  8. Rosie September 18, 2014

Zzz @ that entire list. 2014 really is the worst year this decade so far for music.
The real kii will be next week when Kenny Chesney and possibly alt-J block C2C.

    • B**** I Can’t Even Spell Welfare September 18, 2014

      This TIRED Gaga shade.

Look, Miles Davis is more important than GAGA (and always will be) and his masterpiece, the biggest selling jazz album of all time, only sold 4 million.

It’s a jazz album. It’s not going to do that well. Why are you purposely being ridiculous? We get it, you hate Gaga but saying that “Cheek To Cheek” is going to flop by pop music standards is like pointing out that the Earth is round.

      • Rosie September 18, 2014

zzz @ this essay. I’m just telling the truth. That will be the first exciting chart week since UV/Sam Smith.
You should tell that to the Little Cutters who think this will do ~150K next week. Even I’m expecting no more than 75-80K.

  9. NOLIES September 18, 2014

Those are terrible songs, but the fact that Iggy & Nicki are both in the Hot 100 At the same time is history.

(Taylor needs to be shot for that song.)

    • truth (icki is the QWEEN OF PUSHBACK!! Iggy got her scuured honey. #IckiAFlop) September 18, 2014

Taylor needs to b shot for BREATHING honey

  10. Realest September 18, 2014

Wow what a sad top 10. Pretty much all generic trash except maybe one or two. Sad time for music when these represents poor excuses for hits are what’s representing popular music. No tea, no shade but in 30,40, 50 this period in music will NEVER be brought nor remembered. There’s nothing with longevity prominent

    • Realest September 18, 2014

      **poor excuses for hits***

      • Realest September 18, 2014

        **30,40, 50 years***

    • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

U can always tell who the old posters are. They repeat the same repetitive nonsense, back in my days the music was superior, this that and yap yap yap. STFU. Get with the times or stop listening to music altogether. Damn!

      • booboo bye September 18, 2014

Shut up! you just mad beyfag hasn’t had a hit in like what? 09 and shiti can only chart doing Mcdonald’s generic fast foods nursery rhymes ho sit down somewhere you f****** hussy

      • Kisses for Kay September 18, 2014

Wrong. I’m from this generation and I can tell you first hand that this current music( especially from this decade) is neither of great quality or will be remembered within the next ten years. Then again, why should anyone expect a reasonable comment from a person such as yourself who double stans for trash.

      • truth (icki is the QWEEN OF PUSHBACK!! Iggy got her scuured honey. #IckiAFlop) September 18, 2014

U can tell the young hoez. They always talkn stupid…like the biitch beyFAG

  11. Mark111 September 18, 2014

It’s gonna be funny and sad when Pink Print out sale No Classic sales (or lack of) in the first few weeks. The single artist just now passed 300K.

    • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

The Barbz are ready toslay the Top 200 charts. We aint playing this time around. Belee dat!

    • Iconic Iggy September 18, 2014

Not sure who’s album sales you’re citing but The New Classic has been past the 300k mark for a month. It shouldn’t be a surprise at all if Nicki, a household name with an established fan base, out sells Iggy’s debut with her 3rd album. That’s like comparing Drake’s 3rd album to A$AP Rocky’s debut. It would be bad if Nicki couldn’t. Sit down

      • Mark111 September 18, 2014

I remember the Uggly fans talking mad crap when Fancy went #1. Saying Nick was done and blah blah blah. Now y’all want to be humble? No, I got my popcorn and front row seat for the blood bath the Barbs gonna give y’all.

      • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

I know that feeling Mark, and some are still saying it.But all in all I am happy that female rappers are making a comeback. I want to see the industry swarmed with them just like the males. Its about time.

      • Iconic Iggy September 18, 2014

Lmao @ Iggy fans! Most Iggy fans stan for Nicki too fool. I’m sure you’re smart enough to tell a fan from a troll trying to start something. I guess not though. Last I checked there are only 3 real Iggy fans who come on this site.

      • Edwin September 22, 2014

But….Pink Friday is Nicki’s debut and it’s first week sales are still higher than iggy’s current sales in the US.

    • truth (icki is the QWEEN OF PUSHBACK!! Iggy got her scuured honey. #IckiAFlop) September 18, 2014

Mark now u soundn STUPID! Nicki a flop…DEAL!!

  12. Iconic Iggy September 18, 2014

Two female rappers in the top 5 at the same time. Both lead artists on their own songs. That is incredible! Well done for both!

    • tits mcgee September 18, 2014

Congrats to Nicki(even tho I’m not a fan) and
Iggy(who I could take or leave), that is a big
feat for them. That is pretty dope.

  13. tits mcgee September 18, 2014

Special thanks to Billboard for the streaming rules.
Thanks to you we have all this quality music at the
    top of the charts!

    Shitt does rise!!

    #Floaters

    • Mark111 September 18, 2014

And who should be on this list?

      • tits mcgee September 18, 2014

Anybody who actually sells their music
and does not have free streams and
        views counted as sales.

These cheap tactics are lowering the
curve for what people actually buy, and
        or, want.

      • Mark111 September 18, 2014

I understand that. But those artist releases videos just like these artist. Thier fan base can tune in as well. I felt that way a few years ago, but we have to accept that we live in a Vevo/social/streaming era. Just like we came from a MTV era and others came from the record/radio era. Time changes. If anything it’s should be easier to chart if all you have to do is stream the music for free.

      • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

Streaming isn’t counted as a sale lol.Chart rankings are based on radio play, streaming online, and sales. There are several component charts that contribute to the overall calculation of the Hot 100. The most significant ones are:

Hot 100 Airplay: (per Billboard) approximately 1,000 stations, “composed of adult contemporary, R&B, hip-hop, country, rock, gospel, Latin and Christian formats, digitally monitored twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Charts are ranked by number of gross audience impressions, computed by cross-referencing exact times of radio airplay with Arbitron listener data.”

Hot Singles Sales: (per Billboard) “the top selling singles compiled from a national sample of retail store, mass merchant and internet sales reports collected, compiled, and provided by Nielsen Soundscan.” The chart is released weekly and measures sales of physical commercial singles. With the decline in sales of physical singles in the US, many songs that become number one on this chart often do not even chart on the Hot 100.

Hot Digital Songs: Digital sales are tracked by Nielsen SoundScan and are included as part of a title’s sales points.

Streaming Songs: a collaboration between Billboard, Nielsen SoundScan and National Association of Recording Merchandisers which measures the top streamed radio songs, on-demand songs and videos on leading online music services.

      • tits mcgee September 18, 2014

        @bey minaj and @mark111

I hear you both. I accept that these changes
        aren’t going anywhere, doesn’t mean I have
to like it. It is what it is. 🙂

    • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

Your fave missing from the top 5 huh? Lmao

      • tits mcgee September 18, 2014

Not about any fave of mine. Strictly about
the way music is flat lining as far as quality
        across the board. No hate.

Are there any songs on this list you will be
singing in 5yrs time? Just wondering.

      • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

Who knows what I’ll be listening or bopping to in 5 years. Do you know what you will be bopping to in 5 years? No. Your tastes won’t be evryone’s tastes. Suck it up and get over it. Your fave will get their turn.

      • tits mcgee September 18, 2014

Once again has nothing to do with ‘faves’. You
        Asked me a question(then answered it),so I will
        answer.

I do know what my tastes are and I can hear what
is catchy but also captivating, those are songs the
ones, I don’t tire from year after year.

You made my point, you won’t remember these
most of these songs because they suck.

If they were quality, you could easily tell me you
would be into them, in 5yrs time.

Nothing to suck up. I’m just stating my opinion.
You don’t have to agree, dear

      • Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

Oh but I’m sure I’ll be listening to your fave songs in 5 years time right? You want me topredict the future and I can’t.I’m not still bumping to Janet’s hits you know. I’m keeping with the times and enjoying my faves music right now. I don’t care about your predictions of which songs will and won’t be classics. Let us enjoy the music we love and you can wallow in your faves non existence on the charts.

      • tits mcgee September 18, 2014

Lol. I am not talking about Janet, hun. I am
talking about the lack of quality music, brought
to the masses due to the extreme manipulation
        by corporate structures.

I have a wide birth of music that I listen to, and
many from this generation, that don’t get the
light of day, even tho they sell and are talented.

You can shade Janet if you want. She doesn’t
have an album out, so I don’t get why your
        bringing her up.

I was making a bigger point about where music
is now, and why it’s dying…

AAAAHHHHH Rashad, I just played that all about the bass song

    • booboo bye September 18, 2014

Go shove Shlt in your mouth and shush ho

  16. Bey-Minaj September 18, 2014

For those who say streaming messes things up. The Hot 100 formula starting 2013 generally incorporates sales (35-45%), airplay (30-40%) and streaming (20-30%), and the precise percentage can change from week to week. As you can see Sales has the largest chunk and does matter overall. Streaming alone won’t get you in the top 5 or 10.

  17. LB September 18, 2014

Honey, you’re about an hour too late to be talking all that mess, collect a ticket and deposit that nonsense in my account at the I don’t give a f*** Bank.

Imma need you to re-route and take that gobbledygook to someone who gives a s*** because I bean on a green smoothie cleanse and I’m as clean as a One Direction record to give a s***.

So hang it up states side or weave it to your shredded edges, or better yet, saw it to the seat that has arrived for you in the mail and let it serve as a constant reminder to come for me straight next time or be stuck in LA traffic.

You can exit stage left, do not collect $100 and keep your day job because we will not be calling you.

Sidenote: I wonder when Rihanna will release a greatest hits CD.

  20. tits mcgee September 18, 2014

It’s not just streaming. Most radio stations are
owned by Clear Channel or some other corporate
conglomerate, that play music that they are paid
to play, the same people, over and over.

So with streaming, and radio play, both being
in play (with coruption in corporatist radio),
sales count for less than ever before.

  21. CherylSoldierr September 18, 2014

Why are people bringing up cheek to cheek tho? It’s a f****** jazz album. When’s the last time a jazz album did big numbers?

    • Cbreezy September 18, 2014

Well when a “mega star” does it it should do decent numbers. Gaga is a flop period

      • CherylSoldierr September 18, 2014

LEGENDS like Louis Armstrong and ella Fitzgerald only went gold. The highest selling jazz album ever worldwide is 4 million. It doesn’t matter how big of a star gaga is, it’s a f****** jazz album. You tried.
