Snubbed: Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, & Sade Shut Out Of 2015 ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’ Nominations

‘What have you done for me lately?’ takes on new meaning after reports have surfaced that Grammy-winning pop icon Janet Jackson has been snubbed, yet again, from induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

With a four decade career that boasts over 100 million records sold and countless industry awards lining her shelves, Jackson reigns supreme as the second most decorated female artist of all time (second only to Whitney Houston –who was also shut out).  Apparently her efforts, which span across music and film, have yet to be enough to impress the academy who votes and helps decide who will be inducted into the prestigious institution.

But, it looks like she’s not the only one…

Ask Whitney Houston who boasts nearly 200 million sold, immeasurable influence, and still reigns as the most decorated female in music history alongside our girl Sade who is the top selling U.K. female act in history.  They too – despite enjoying careers that were 25 years+, have been omitted from induction.

For the third year in a row, fans are able to vote for who gets inducted.  Despite Jackson, Houston, and Sade’s names being unlisted, look below to find out who you can vote for to join the historic ranks in April 2015.

Report via Rolling Stone:

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015 are in, and the list includes Green DayNine Inch NailsN.W.Athe SmithsLou Reed and Sting. The rest of this year’s hopefuls are the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, KraftwerkChicJoan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers. The top vote-getters  will be announced toward the end of the year and inducted on April 18th, 2015.”

BUT MADONNA GETS IN. Girl racism is alive and well. Still amazed that in 2014 a WHITE NAKED with no talent gets CELEBRATED BUT REAL TALENT GETS PUSHED TO THE SIDE

Are you serious? Madonna is the most successful female artist of all time. The competition isn’t even close. It had nothing to do with race. It was about her achievements in music history. isn’t that what the hall of fame is all about? I don’t care that Your favorite wasn’t nominated. Don’t diss Madonna because she deserves to be there.

  2. Beysus October 9, 2014

Green Day??? Are you serious??? But WOOOO Sting!!!!

  3. Eloviano October 9, 2014

Notice they’re all woman of colour. Racism is real.

    • Antonio October 9, 2014

How is it racist if NWA is being inducted and artists like Prince, Stevie, Ray, Aretha, Etta and Darlene Love and countless other Black artists have been inducted. The article clearly states fans vote for who get inducted and I wonder how many Black ppl actually knew about the voting process…

    • Sweetnothings78 October 9, 2014

What an uneducated statemt to make.
People like you make racist statements to cause issues.

      GROW UP….

      • Eloviano October 9, 2014

Did I lie though??? No I didn’t. What impact did NWA have that could surpass the influence, record sales, legacy, achievements etc that Whitney, Sade or Janet have . Which wannabes are singing NWA song’s on music shows like AI,The Voice,America’s/Britain’s Got Talent & all the X factor shows. Show me video’s of NWA choreography being emulated like Janet. And it’s puzzling considering Janet has been eligible for induction since 2008 and she’s yet to be inducted, where as her brother Michael Jackson is there twice. Think thoroughly before you type.

    • Realest October 9, 2014

Yeah Nighas.With.Attitude (NWA) are there and the hall of fame has many black acts. Not racism. Politics more than anything

      • Avi October 9, 2014

Are you seriously using AI and The Voice as measurements to weigh the significance of artists? How old are you, 14?

  4. Eloviano October 9, 2014

And Green Day over Nippy, bounty chiiiiiile!!! I just can’t

  5. Antonio October 9, 2014

hate to say it, why are artists who aren’t even Rock being inducted because we all know an Hip-Hop, R&B/Soul, Country or Pop hall of fame would not induct Rock artists. No shade to Janet, Whitney or Sade because they are true legends but there needs to be an induction ceremkny held for Black artists other than the BET Awards. I knew ppl don’t hold Janet is high regard when she got snubbed at the vH1 Dance Divas Tribute in 2012. vH1 could’ve easily got Ciara, Britney and Mya to tribute Janet but instead they had Ciara tribute Michael #smh. I’m tired of these events allowing fans to vote because we all know who makes up the majority of voters for events like this. Come to think of it, Janet and Sade have yet to receive any major tribute

    • StarXavi October 9, 2014

I remember Janet being tributed by MTV. She was the MTV icon or something… and Pink and Maya gave her dance tributes. But most people have forgotten about that.

    • eric October 9, 2014

Janet has used PLENTY of rock elements in her music. I’m thinking specifically of the Janet, Velvet Rope and All for You albums.

      • FAF October 9, 2014

It doesn’t literally mean rock&roll they mean all derivatives of the genre

    • ithl123 October 9, 2014

The Rock and Roll hall of Fame encompasses many different genres of music, not just Rock and Roll specifically.

  6. RICHIE_RICH October 9, 2014

Kinda funny the only blacks I see are NWA and the spinner, which we all know Whitney, Janet, and Sade slayed them all. Racism in 2014 is real, real…….

  7. smh October 9, 2014

Same way they’ve been snubbing Donna Summer. Yet Madonna got inducted as soon as she was eligible.

    • Nathen Woods October 9, 2014

Donna Summer was inducted into the R&R Hall Of Fame last year, 2013

      • smh October 9, 2014

After she died, yet she’s been eligible for more than a decade. Not surprised about Janet though, the industry would erase her legacy if it could.

  8. B. Mike October 9, 2014

It’s not racist — It’s SEXIST. When you get a bunch of pimple-faced little boys together to decide future R&R Hall of Famers, they nominate GREEN DAY. Lame-ass GREEN DAY over QUEEN JANET! #icant

    • RICHIE_RICH October 9, 2014

      You might have a point!!!!!

  9. Beysus October 9, 2014

How gorgeous is Sade in that cover pic supa gorge! On topic: I don’t give a f*** whether they are inducted or not doesn’t take anything from their legacies trust Ms Jackson and Ms Adu are somewhere chilling and not giving a fat fck! Like true divas

  12. Eloviano October 9, 2014

And show me people who’ve been inspired by NWA to start a singing career.

    • Realest October 9, 2014

The whole west coast rap movement and TONS of rappers from ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY.. You clearly know NOTHING about rap culture… Hip hop culture… You sound ignorant.

      • Eloviano October 9, 2014

Biggie’s feud with 2Pac is more iconic than anything NWA has released.

      • Flash80 October 9, 2014

You are a true imbecile if you actually dare sit up and downplay NWA’s mammoth culture influence and relevance in the Hip Hop genre. Without NWA, there wouldn’t have even been a Biggie or Pac. You’re just salty that Janet snubbed and are making a fool of yourself with your ignorant greenness.

      • Realest October 9, 2014

Maybe if you don’t live in America or were born in 1997. NWA was making socially conscious rap records and were ESSENTIAL pioneers for the gangster rap movement while 2Pac was still a background dancer and Biggie was only 200lbs. Just because you’re ignorant to hip hop/rap culture doesn’t negate the facts. Sorry that your knowledge is blog/drama based and not factual hunbun! Google.

      • Avenger October 9, 2014

These dad-less gay boys and their fat f** h*** who spent their entire teens and early 20s having slapping fights over Beyonce, Rihanna, Gaga, Nicki, Katy and Iggy on social media don’t know nothing but sissy pop music. NWA more than deserves their nomination. You don’t know Hip Hop or much about music in general, so hush. Go lick your phone wallpaper with Nick Jonas embarrassing himself trying to impersonate Marky Mark.

    • JM October 9, 2014

NWA is iconic in hip hop. They helped start the west coast/gangsta rap movement and brought political and racial issues to the forefront of popular music. Their debut album is considered one of the greatest rap albums of all time. From the group came Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy-E (R.I.P.), true hip hop legends/icons. Learn some basic knowledge about hip hop culture before you talk.

  13. DMWN October 9, 2014

Dumbasses. Last time I checked N.W.A, Chic, the Marvelettes, the Spinners and Bill Withers were all black, so try again with that tired “racism” excuse. Janet has the most PATHETIC fans of all the fan bases I’ve seen. They’ll use ANY excuse to justify her inadequacy. Sorry but she’s just Michael’s sister.

    • Winning October 9, 2014

Yup, but it’s all kids on this site what can you really expect? Not much at least i don’t.

This “sister of Michael” sold over 140M records, is the second most awarded female artist (most awarded living female artist), has 5 sold out world tours that broke records world wide and influenced all your faves. Pretty impressive for just being ‘Michael’s sister.’

  14. Retromaury October 9, 2014

SCREAMING @ u girls being mad that Madonna was nominated AND INDUCTED the same year she was inducted.
I mean SHES THE QUEEN OF POP. She is Rock & Roll. A true GLOBAL SUPER STAR unlike Janet Jackson who’s only really known and influential in the U.S and a few other English-speaking countries.

Madonna, at 56 can still book stadiums all over the world.
Whitney is dead and Janet is a gold digger who has been erased from Pop culture.

    Deal with IT!

All of that doesn’t change the fact that the 3 aforementioned women are not inducted into the R&RHOF. You’re both fool’s if you’re think this ain’t about racism as much as it is about politics and sexism.

    • Realest October 9, 2014

Not more of a fool than you saying NWA has no relevance in music culture. Stop obsessing over Beyonce videos on YouTube for an hour or so and actually educate yourself on music his trot before you try and shade something’s ou clearly know NOTHING about. It makes you look ignorant and foreign !

  18. Stephon October 9, 2014

Green Day??? OVER WHITNEY HOUSTON!!!!!??? Wow, they need to change the name to MUSIC Hall Of Fame.

    • Madbrax October 9, 2014

Green Day is a rock band and have had huge success for 25 years. Whitney was a, r&b/pop singer who only sang, she didn’t write nor produce any of her work, and many of her hits were covers. that’s why she wasn’t nominated.

      • Stephon October 9, 2014

Ooops, well I guess that makes sense

      • JJ October 9, 2014

Do you realize the other artists inducted who did not write ?Elvis, Etta James etc.Whitney was an exception producer of music. She produced the bodyguard, various works since the 90’s. Vocal abilities are like instruments and she was the best with influencing a generation. She is worthy of an induction.

I mean I would think someone speaking/commenting with such an opinionated/firm stance would at least know more than Beyonce’s Set list and era specifications. There is more to music then arguing with the Navy about bey and Ri… Smh

      • Eloviano October 9, 2014

Sade and Whitney deserve a nomination and will someday get in.
Janet though is just a less talented clone of MJ, who is already in so that’s enough.

    • um October 11, 2014

You idiot, you clearly don’t know Janet’s work to say
such lies. Did you know that Michael got more from
Janet and other artists than Janet ever got from him
or other artists? Get your facts together. I love MJ
to death, but he wasn’t the creator and innovator
of everything you see in music! #TRUTH

  24. How Many Drinks October 9, 2014

    Mess.

  25. Madbrax October 9, 2014

sorry to break it to you pathetic fools, it’s not racism. a lot of successful white bands/singers are not nominated their first year of eligibility.
let’s get one thing straight, these are NOT Rock & Roll artists! they don’t care about movie success either so quit f*cking bringing that up.
Whitney is a R&B/Pop singer. They take that into consideration as well as what she contributed musically, which is not much! she was just a voice, she did not write nor did she produce any of her music and most of her hits were COVERS of other people’s work. that is another huge factor. she will probably never get nominated. deal with it!
and Sade isn’t that much of a massive global band, and btw all the guys in the band are white and she’s half white so f*ck off with the racist s***. they will get a nomination soon enough.
Janet, well she is good but she’s only a successful r&b and pop artist. that’s it.

    • ithl123 October 9, 2014

The Rock and Roll hall of Fame encompasses many different genres of music, not just Rock and Roll specifically.

Also, the criteria of the RnR Hall of Fame is 25 years after their first release and the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

The aforementioned artists in this post (especially Janet and Whitney) meet that criteria. Every female artist after them has been influenced by them in some form and has name checked them as being major inspirations.

      • madbrax October 9, 2014

being name checked as influences by artists does not make a nomination and they don’t give a s*** about that lol. and there is more to just 25 years, not all artists get nominated the first year. Bon Jovi and Dolly Parton who have both contributed much more than Whitney and Janet did were not nominated. it takes much more than what they contributed

      • ithl123 October 9, 2014

Being name checked by artists that came after them, and having those artists say they were inspired/influence by them falls right in line with the RnR Hall of Fame’s criteria that the artist contributes to “the development and perpetuation of Rock and Roll”. In this case, you gauge an artist’s impact based on the influence they have on those that come after them, and and their influence on their genre of music/the industry as a whole. Janet and Whitney’s impact on virtually every female artist that has come after them is be a huge factor based on the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s criteria. Thus, making their continued snub very controversial to those that realize that the rock and roll hall of fame does not just encompass “rock and roll artists”

    • Spunkypoop October 9, 2014

Successful Pop R&B Rock and Soul Artist. @Janet Jackson boo boo! She was number one on the rock charts with “Black Cat” and She was the only female artist to have number 1’s in all genres of popular music. NOT EVEN MADONNA had this achievement.

      • Essa October 9, 2014

“Black Cat” did not go to #1 on the rock chart. It peaked at #10.

      • ithl123 October 9, 2014

“Black Cat” peaked at #1 on both the Hot 100 and the Rock Chart simultaneously. She was the 1st artist to have a #1 on both charts. It peaked at #10 on the R&B charts…. which is amazing that a rock song peaked at #10 on that chart.

    • Blow October 9, 2014

  26. Madonna stan October 9, 2014

    Who cares?

  27. ithl123 October 9, 2014

As someone said earlier, it’s sexism. Janet, Whitney, Sade, Diana Ross (as a solo artist), Cher, Barbara Streisand, just to name a few have yet to be inducted. There is no argument that can be made for Green Day being inducted before the legendary ladies. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame encompasses many different genres and Rock and Roll itself has it’s roots in R&B and blues, so there really is no justification for excluding these women.

    • LB October 9, 2014
