Ariana Grande and Jessie J hit headlines globally last week when news that they were planning to re-record R&B classic ‘The Boy Is Mine’ hit the wire.

Debate erupted here on TGJ and on social media, with many voicing their displeasure with the idea of the Brandy and Monica duet (released first in 1998) being re-dressed for a new project by its producer Darkchild.

Prior to now, Grande and J have been notable in their silence on the matter.

However, during a press run in Australia this, 21-year-old Ariana finally shared her view on the furore…

Speaking with Shazam Top 20, the songbird revealed:

“I don’t think I am {remaking the song}. I saw that on Facebook … I was like “Am I? I don’t know.  This is the first I’ve heard of it.

It’s one of my favourite songs….It’s so iconic, it’s so perfect. I was excited by the idea but it’s just an idea. It’s a rumour.” {Source}

Peep the video below…

Granted we were open to hearing a fresh interpretation of the track, when weighing up the pros and cons, it doesn’t seem like the risk is altogether worth it for either Ari or Jessie and this point of their careers.

    I’m not here for any remake of this song. Period. Jessie screaming and Ariana’s unaudible lyrics. No thanks.

    Good. I’d rather see Ciara and Rihanna remake the song. Imagine how dope it would be visually.

    If he truly wants to remake this song, he needs to do it with the right people.

    Toni & Tamar
    Beyonce & Rihanna
    Ciara & Mya

    Those really are the only 3 duo’s I PERSONALLY see fit, vocally, to pull it off without scaring you away from it, more so Ciara & Mya or Toni & Tamar (the two sister fighting over the same guy would be funny twist to it).

    At the same time, just don’t f*** with it period if you’re not going to do it right. I mean, Sam Smith remaking “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay”? No.

      That Toni & Tamar duet should happen, but not with this song. However that’s a good plot for the song.

    We all know I love my Princess Ari, so I’m happy it’s a rumor. I was not ready for anyone to touch Brandy and nurse Monica’s classic.
