What’s more, Rih is routinely touted as a “rival” to the better-selling Beyonce, who once upon a time was the main chart-thorn in the side of Ashanti’s dominance. Actually no. They were found not guilty on all charges and even if there were ANY truth to the allegation it was going on long before Ashanti entered the picture. Let alone that it was only an amount of a supposed 2 million dollars in drug money. That was not enough to fund budding careers for both Ashanti and Ja Rule. Ashanti’s name alone through her time of relevancy brought in over 200 million to the lable (MI/DF). Tweet was talented and under Miss who had a lot more than 2 mill by her side. She just never popped.

The only thing they have in common is that both WERE on Def Jam and both released they’re first 3 albums back to back. Beyoncé took Ashanti spot as hottest chick in the game, but the fall of Murder Inc is what killed Ashanti and that was because of 50. Also in 2004, people gave her crap for not being able to dance because that year some girl from Atlanta came out and was killing the dance foors. That’s why Only U had two videos, a regular and a dance one. But I don’t care what anyone say, Ashanti popped out of nowhere right after Aaliyah passed. Before Aug 25th, I can’t tell you where she was, but a few weeks after she was everywhere. But she only had one year of ruling, to me she’s the same as Ciara, came up too quick and had no core support. That’s why they fell to flop land so quickly.
I always felt like Ashanti had better singles than albums, she should have did what Rihanna, and Jay did and release albums yearly to get a solid fan base and she should have focused on delivering strong singles to support her albums like she did on her 1st album. Her not dancing wasn’t the issue because Rihanna hardly dances neither does Katy and they are successful. 50 didn’t kill murder inc. the financial problems and dirty money killed them along with IRV Gotti inability to network with people in the industry…Ashanti mentions in a interview on the breakfast club that he had a bad reputation in the industry and because her and Ja were associated with him they got the bad end of the stick as well and she had to really work hard on getting rid of that perception that people had about her due to her affiliation with Murder Inc. I truly feel like Aaliyah would have been to Beyoncé what Prince was to Michael a strong and competitive rivalry against someone who was just as hard of a worker.
I also recall Beyoncé pushing her album back because she couldn’t get a hit. Work It Out flopped so hard and was supposed to be the first single to Dangerously In Love. So had to jack Amerie sound to pop, cause Naughty Girl wouldn’t had pop off her career. And she would still be in DC.
Funny how that works huh? Because from what I recall, Rihanna’s career didn’t really start to “pop off” until she decided to change her whole identity. Guess she and Beyonce have a tad bit more in common than we thought.

They are so gorgeous. I used to love Ashanti. Her debut album & Chapter II singles still get a spin on my iPad. I still like her and Braveheart actually has some songs worth a spin. Rihanna is my b****. She’s unapologetic. Her cute discography and bold fashion keep her above the rest, and doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon.
