She may have been one of their highest selling acts to date, but it would seem Ashanti‘s relationship with UMG’s Def Jam is now a far cry from what it was when she was signed to the label.

For, in a new interview with Hip Hop outlet ‘Vlad TV‘, the singer/actress revealed that the label recently blocked an attempt she made to have music from her Christmas album ‘Ashanti’s Christmas’ placed in a Christmas movie she starred in back in 2013.

Damn this is a shame. Ashanti has taken hit after hit since the fall of the INC. Hopefully things can get back on track for Ashanti in the new year.

No Shade, but it was gonna flop anyways… Ashanti was the temporary replacement for Aayliyah… Then, Beyonce took over & her placement was no longer needed. She looks beautiful tho.

    • Molly January 2, 2015

Ashanti to me was nothing like Aaliyah.

      • Brian310 January 2, 2015

@Molly Thank you I thought I was the only 1 who thought that. Lol

    • BeyRihLiyah January 2, 2015

  5. LB January 2, 2015

Sam, it wasn’t blocked it was rejected as she stated in the video. There is a huge difference.

    • MusicLife January 3, 2015

Explain..? I don’t see a difference. Either way Def Jam said no we will not allow the music for this film.

  6. LB January 2, 2015

The album was rejected in 04′, DefJam’s it girl then was Christina Milian, did you think they’d release the competition’s music Ashanti? The music business is shady.

    • MusicLife January 3, 2015

Wtf? Christina Milian was never an it girl! She had one hit ppl know of and that sold “dip it low.”

The album was released in 2003 so I don’t know what u mean about Def Jam rejecting her Xmas album from then too

Ashanti made much more money for DJ than other artists

She hasn’t aged one bit. You could almost convince this is a FBF interview.

  14. caribbean native January 2, 2015

    Sigh def jam is trash……

    • MusicLife January 3, 2015

Clearly they have no idea how to sell their back catalog. Lost opportunity for them

  15. Marcinis Hall January 3, 2015

She released that album in 2003. I need her to get her years together, lol.

But yeah, that’s shady. ASHANTI was the only thing worth something on Def Jam for a long time. They should still be kissing her ass.

    • MusicLife January 3, 2015

She was only off by a year so not too bad on her part. Dumb of Def Jam I mean the songs would sell and make DJ more money
