Usher fans have called on MTV to celebrate the entertainer’s work this year, taking to Change.Org to launch a petition asking them to hand him his very own MTV tribute special.
Their request below…
Made before the release of his next studio album, the request to have the icon celebrated by MTV comes fourteen years after he honoured Janet Jackson during her MTV Icon special alongside Pink, Mya, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and N’Sync.
Now, after a raising a new generation of R&B princes, Usher-according to fans- is just as deserving of a special akin to Jackson’s.

IKR! She seemed so whole after TEOM. 2005 – 2008 was amazing. Her interviews were so cute in that era. I don’t really like her interviews now 🙁
In 2009 she was sad. The miscarriage obviously took a toll on her. I like the George Lopez, Alan Carr, and Under the Skin interviews during that era though. She has some ok semi normal ones since. (Live with Kelly and Michael, etc) The Late Night interview and the Ellen interview seem normal. I’ve had two conversations with her since May and she still was the same funny shy girl she’s been since I’ve been apart of the Honey B Fly club. I’m guessing the reason the actual last few awkward like interviews are bc the camera is watching her, and she was trying to avoid that her and Nick are divorcing, but I know she’ll return to form. Strongest b**** in the game. MC.

Usually I’m in NY with my fiancee so I’ll just run into her. If you join the Honey B Fly club you get e-mails and etc that other Lambs and the general public don’t know. I did however buy two VIP tickets at $1500 a piece for the 15th of July and 24th of May for the Las Vegas residency meet and greet. All of those tickets are sold out. The trick to meeting her is to never leave the concert and stay around her team (mainly Rachel) so you know what hotel to stand near. You can get a meet and greet for free that way. If you’re nervous, she’ll force you to talk, so it’s always fun to talk to MC. You can tell in person she’s genuinely sweet. She loves the Lambs.
Definitely long overdue and deserved. MTV owes him after giving the Video Vanguard award to that biitchass fraud Timberfake before him.

Usher was the only male solo star reigning on MTV during the 90’s, and he survived the mickey mouse club invasion on pop music in the early 2000s and became an even bigger solo star after that. The only male solo artist to have a Diamond certified album in the last 10 years. Every male star in the last 20 years from Justin Timberlake to Bruno Mars has copied from his aesthetic. Usher definitely deserves this special, he is an Icon.

Usher totally deserves this. Usher should be sitting in JT’s position except he doesn’t really produce and write the majority of his own music. After that Confessions album went diamond, his career got mishandled and people slowly lost interest. I kinda think he abandoned his fan base by trying to go pop. He needs a career rejuvenation though because he was on top

This very well deserved, he should’ve been gotten this award like 5 years ago he made such a great impact on the industry and he is leading these young boys out here , he also needs a Video vanguard awards as well he should’ve gotten his in 2012/2013 so he better be getting on this year because if he doesn’t it’s going to be very messed & overdue anytime after that , & I really hope he brings it with this album and show everyone he’s still the king of R&B
He should have BEEN honored at least 4/5 years ago when he experienced a career resurgence with RvR. I’ve always felt that out of the big Pop stars of the 2000’s (him, Britney, Xtina, JT and Bey) he was somewhat overlooked. Remember when he presented that honorary American Music Award to Beyonce in 2007? I was so proud of her but I kept wondering why Usher wasn’t the one receiving it. Anyway, he was awarded a BET Honor last month. At least that’s something.
1st thing first Christina is not a legend. She’s successful but she never achieved as much as Beyonce, Britney, JT, Usher, etc. overall. (No offense just my opinion)!
2nd Usher did get honored, I’ve seen him get honored in 2010 during RVR era and before too post Confessions era. Sure in last decade he may not have gotten honored as many times as Britney, Beyonce (gotten overlooked sort of too) or received the MTV Vanguard award like JT currently. He’s still doing well and did outstanding overall. He influenced many other young superstars, proved to be a terrific coach on the voice, won lots of awards, dominated the charts, etc.
3rd Usher’s latest song “I Don’t Mind” is doing very well and charting fine. Usher is not a has been, u all have to leave him alone. It’s the impossible music industry’s fault he struggled last time. 2012 was the worst year for many R&B singers, not just him and a depressing year for music in general. Every superstar goes through a hard phase (I.e Britney spears for ex) then they all will def come back even harder. (No offense, just my opinion)
4th Sisqo was never huge to begin with. Nobody remembers him! Usher had way more longevity (since the 90’s) in his whole career than Sisqo’s one major hit in 2000 and with the Band Dru hill. Usher’s whole career >>>>>>>>>>>> anything Sisqo released. (No offense anyone just saying)
