Leona Lewis is US bound once again!

Fresh from rocking London with a showcase of new material this week, the songbird has revealed that she’ll be nesting at a new American record label.

It’s a move which comes after she left Simon Cowell’s SyCo last year to join Universal’s Island Records UK.

Details below…

Taking to Instagram, the ‘Bleeding Love’ belter announced to fans that had inked a major new deal with Def Jam for the American roll-out of her new music.

The confirmation comes on the heels of a statement from Island’s Darcus Beese, who told UK publication Music Week that Lewis had inked a lucrative four-album deal with Universal Music – which houses both Island and Def Jam.

Word has it that the X Factor winner is a priority act for the Island and Def Jam labels and will be the focus of a global push this year when new album ‘I Am’ arrives. Lead single ‘Fire (Under My Feet)’ is due any day now.

***************

Echoing earlier sentiments, we’re elated Leona is receiving the backing she deserves. Her talent is too immense to be contained locally.

Randomness: Interestingly, Lewis’ arrival at Def Jam comes as fellow powerhouse Mariah Carey departs. As many will recall, the comparisons to Mimi were rife upon Leona’s debut.

In any case, peep some of our favourite moments from the Londoner below…

Sam I see where you’re going with this, but it’s all about Ariana Grande being the mosquito in Mimi’s ear now, not Leona Lewis. Still, I would love to see all three mainstream at the same time with whistle notes all over the radio. Lol.

Still, I’m happy for Leona (I really am), but I don’t think Def Jam is going to do anything for her. I can see this deal going the same way I saw Kylie Minogue’s. Looking forward to the I Am album!

Yeah I thought about 2005 when Mariah went to def jam too. Look how long that lasted. I think she is just too boring. That is why she doesn’t connect as and I wouldn’t sign her to a USA record deal. I mean she is a two hit wonder. And people only remember 1x hit.

she’s yet another washed up b****, joining Keri Hilson and Ashanti etc

  3. boy April 16, 2015

Well couldn’t she buy herself some personality? She is boring as f.u.c.k Like Jordin Sparks 2. You are or you aren’t hot. Just that. You can’t fake it to be ‘cool’. Just ask Fakeyonce with her 5th grade education. Just sing your dang karaoke Whitney en Mariah songs. And she drops the mic. Byeeeee.

    • Slay_Hive April 16, 2015

I was with you until you said Beyoncè has to fake it to be cool. Beyoncè is beautiful and a mega talent and that speaks volumes over your personality. She’s draws people in because She is so interestingly mysterious and talented all wrapped in one.

Congratulations are certainly in order for Leona but signing with Def Jam can prove to be a major mistake as they have proven when it comes to promoting their artists.

  5. Bitchpleaseeeeeeeee! April 16, 2015

What makes a person boring though? Please somebody tell me cuz I just don’t get it…………

    • OMG Logic!!! April 16, 2015

Not being interesting. Lacking that “it” factor. Leona has the talent, but she has no “it” factor. On the other hand, Rihanna has NO talent whatsoever, but has a big “it” factor.

    • MusicLife April 17, 2015

Boring for me is no personality outside of music. Meaning I don’t care to know about your life/family/etc. you release music but outside of that I have no care for you beyond that. I don’t even care to follow u on social media. Also boring celebs are those one a for me which I wouldn’t care to meet/chat with/etc.

Do I smell an Urban Leona is on the horizon, I like Her. But if Def Jam makes her priority she should be great but if they do all this and do make return on investment then they will drop her (ie: Teairra Mari , Amerie & Chirstina Millian) but they don’t really have big named female Vocalist over there so I see them doing everything they can – perfect timing .

    Happy for her

    • I STAN(D) IN LINE FOR HYDROQUINONE) April 17, 2015

      Don’t be

  8. SipTheTruth April 16, 2015

And lets be clear..mariah flopped on def jam because of her unrelatable diva attitude, non commericial songs and ariana grande.

    • OMG Logic!!! April 16, 2015

Girl, you tried it with that Ariana shade. No one is checking for MC Lite, so she had no part in Queen Mariah’s last album flop.
She flopped because she did not promote at all. Had she released the album within a month or two of releasing her top 20 #Beautiful, she would have easily moved over 100k albums first week. Instead, she procrastinated and allowed the general public to forget all about her album.

      • TheElusiveLamb April 16, 2015

Mimi let that album go to waste. It kills Memoirs and E=MC² combined. I think she just wanted to be let go so she could reunite with LA.

      • XYZ April 17, 2015

no, honestly she flopped because she is a laughing stock nowadays. her Diva attitude gets on everyone’s nerves. I know a lot of People, who used to love her and her Music, but simply can’t stand her these days.

      • TheElusiveLamb April 17, 2015

#Beautiful went platinum and if the album was dropped with a healthy promo campaign, I’m sure she would’ve been in the 400k range now. I agree that heavily overblown diva image has damaged her, but she’s been this way forever and still is the third top selling female artist of all time, so…

there isn’t one post where people wouldn’t bring up BEYONCES iconic name

  10. CS April 16, 2015

Can’t you just shut your mouth up and appreciate what these artists are doing? I mean, if you think you can do better so go ahead and do it, stop talking s***

  11. LB April 16, 2015

YAAAASSSSS Leona take over, cannot wait.

  12. cocobutta April 16, 2015

  14. Indie April 17, 2015

Mariah Carey actually really likes Leona Lewis, I’m pretty sure i remember her and Nick both post Happy when it came out.

Lionna is a global talent, it’s just that Simon Cpwell would nt let her have tha cross over Urban sound that we all yearned from her, she needed that balance between po and R&B which is exacty what she was doing before she was famous and being Sycho they kept her doing everything but R&B, stupid move! I look forward to hearing her do what she loves and i bet the music will reach new levels,

    • I STAN(D) IN LINE FOR HYDROQUINONE) April 17, 2015

Mariah should just retire and take care of her babies, she’s worth over half a million or so, she’s a legend no need to still want more cos nobody checking for her anymore

      • TheElusiveLamb April 17, 2015

I’m pretty sure you care bc you’re in every Mariah post, so…

  15. I STAN(D) IN LINE FOR HYDROQUINONE) April 17, 2015

  16. I STAN(D) IN LINE FOR HYDROQUINONE) April 17, 2015

she tasted a little bit of success and she spent a longer time just relaxing…

  17. you wanna be on tv I bet April 17, 2015

Good luck to her on a new label

  18. butlerny April 17, 2015

I presume all the comments are from the USA?
You have not seen and heard Leona develop over the years like here in UK and europe.
Simons label left her sitting about while he concentrated on one direction.

“I got you” a disco 90’s inspired stomper “Thank you” the new bleeding love “Thunder” so many coming get ready as Universal Island are planning a worldwide campaign Are you ready?check out MTV review http://www.mtv.co.uk/leona-lewis/news/we-love-what-weve-heard-of-leona-lewiss-new-album-so-far
