The rapper Nelly is to make an entry into the world of Country music this year, setting his sights on the arena following his departure from the Universal Music Group.

Full story below…

His plans come eleven years after the release of his smash hit single ‘Over and Over’ pulled from his ‘Suit‘ album, set to come to fruition with help of his manager J. Erving of the Atom Factory.

He revealed:

He’s a free agent on the label side now, and is working on a country-based HeartlandEP, which should be really interesting. He may be one of the first hip-hop artists to jump into that space in an authentic way with Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, so we think he has an opportunity to grow that base even more.

The rapper wouldn’t be the first performer to speed into a new genre’s lane. ‘There You Go‘ chanteuse Pink surprised the world when she ditched the world of R&B to find a friend in Pop Rock after the Rap princess Iggy Azalea ditched the Electro-Pop to pursue a career in Hip-Hop before signing to Universal’s Def Jam.

Country Grammar doing country music. Interesting…

I am not a big Nelly but hate to see people down. A Country album from a rapper is a risk just as a country singer doing rap. Hope it works out Nelly. At the end of the day music is music.

LOL they just had to add that Iggy shade.

What’s the difference? Nelly’s entire catalog is country music. Hell, Taylor Swift remade one of his beats into “We Will Never Get Back Together.” The new boss looks and sounds like the old boss.

For real? What song? I wanna look that up.

      • Delonjo April 29, 2015

I honestly don’t remember the title nor do I remember who sampled whom but what I do know is that when I heard those same opening bars in both songs I was absolutely floored. Is Nelly doing Taylor Swift?!

        Dang, and wow lol.

You never know what will work out.

This move to country music worked for Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish, maybe Nelly can make it too.

I think he will make an amazing Country album I always love his Country or HipHop/Pop songs. He was always the best at that be4 Nicki & Iggy. But funny how when artist decide to change to Rock,Country, Alternative or even Classical this site is all for it but let Nelly been like I’m making a EDM or full Pop album (even tho most of his biggest hits where mixed with pop) everyone would have been like……Trash/ Generic/ Mess. Lol But then if he sold like Taylor Swift 1989 people be picking up there faces.Lol

    • Lake Erie April 29, 2015

Right! Picking up their faces, claiming him and hopping abroad the bandwagon. I could go so deep with this comment you just said but it’s pointless. I definitely agree with you though.

So nobody’s going to complain and say that he is stealing something from white culture?…..How things change eh 😀

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 29, 2015

Country music’s roots did start in Europe but, country music as we know it is based in gospel and blues created by black culture..

      • S****** Blonde April 29, 2015

I stopped reading at Gospel…Btw, did blacks created classical music aswell?, since they invented everything. ALL MUSIC GENRES CAN BE TRACED BACK TO EUROPE. Even the ones developed in the US, among African Americans.

        OOOP Anastasia provide dem receipts!

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 29, 2015

        @Onyx

You’re being an idiot. You can stop reading at gospel? Why don’t you research what you’re talking about before you say anything!

Yes gospel and blues play a huge partin shaping the sound of ccountry as we know it know!

Next I didn’t say blacks created classical music!

If you would have followed my train of thought you would have gotten that.

Let me break it down in baby steps..

        Classical music= from Europe
        Jessie Norman = Black

Rap Music = African/ African American

        Eminem = Caucasian

        Do you get it now?

Lastly you can capitalize your letters all you want. But the majority of the music we listen to that was created in America, including your precious rock and roll can be traced back to Africa.

Do you stay steam pressed about that forever.

Next time try reading the full story before drawing your own ridiculous conclusions, then you won’t look so dumb.

        Bye now. 🙂

I don’t see a problem for different people exploring music originated by others, as long as you are respectful of the roots and traditional of the music and not using it for exploitation.

Like Eminem doing rap or Jessie Norman doing opera.

It’s about being authentic and not exploitive…

  9. Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 29, 2015

Here this is for the ignorant who think rock&roll, blues, soul, jazz, ska and many more music started in Europe when it came from Africa/African Americans.

1 receipt. I can pull more if you like…

      And Caribbean countries..

Ask the rolling stones, the clash, police and many more where they got the music from and who their direct influences are.

Lol. The fact that many white people think they created EVERYTHING, even now is hilarious to me!

Keep living in delusion. The proof is out there..
