Indeed, just a day after his daughter’s birthday, the ‘Crawl‘ crooner made his way to Instagram to lend a heartfelt letter discussing his emotional woes and maturity.
Is the oft-envied dancer finally taking steps in the right direction?

Geez, I want to buy this, but I can’t! I always supported Chris and wished him success during those difficult years after “the incident” (‘Graffiti’ era). I thought he was simply misunderstood. Then it appeared, time and time again, he positioned himself to welcome trouble in his life. It got to the point where I felt like defending CB was a task and that I’m only making excuses for him. I hate delusion! So, I stopped! I feel he’s wasting so much of his talent. At one time I thought he was the most talented guy in the industry. No disrespect to Usher! … Now I wish he had Ush’s class, dedication to his craft and discipline. Musically Chris isn’t even saying anything on songs anymore. I’m basically a disappointed fan and if all this is really coming from a sincere place I’d like to be down for cheering on Chris Brown’s comeback! …again! For now, that’s not a realistic option for me.
I H8 to say this, but he needs to hit rock bottom in order to change. It seems that all that he has been through is nowhere close to rock bottom.

You know, Chris’ career will officially turn a decade old soon. I think sometime in June. In these 10 years, at least five of them have been marred with controversy after controversy. Tbh, Chris is doing pretty good when taking into consideration his tarnished public image and the poor state of sales – especially concerning R&B. However, with his talent, he SHOULD be bigger than he is right now. I always felt that Chris would take that lane as the leading Black male in R&B/Pop to a global scale like Usher did in the 2000s for the 2010s. Yes, Chris is popular but at 26, think of where Usher was in his career at that age. In a nutshell, the ‘Confessions’ album. Chris will not change unless his career is truly threatened and is at risk of losing it ALL. Until then, expect more screw ups followed by hollow ‘apologies’.
Wow, I thought along the same lines as you did. I was waiting for Chris to really “pop” and have that one year where he really go mainstream. He had all the ingredients and even JT & Usher saw it coming! He received a lot of high praises from both of them. I also expected it, especially after that Grammy performance of ‘Run It’. I’m not minimizing what he’s accomplished, but hopes of reaching those heights are lost now. For one, it usually happens inside an artist first decade. Aside from that the commitment has to be there to do all that’s in the best interest of your career. Chris made some bad choices, but what’s even worst is that he continued to build a bad reputation. Again, I’m not putting his career down, I just wanted him to win big the way like I knew he could!

I’ve thought for years that something medical was the real problem with his behavior, and I, for one, will applaud his willingness to show some humility and attempt to grow. Growing up is hard, especially in the public eye.
