‘All Hands on Deck’ diva Tinashe is entrusting her second album to some very capable hitmaking hands – Max Martin and Dr. Luke.

Sharing chart-topping names like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and many more between them, the duo have respectively baked up some of the 21st century’s biggest hits.  Now, as a recent interview with our buds at SPIN magazine indicates, it seems the ‘2 On’ singer is ready for a piece of the pie.

Giving fans a heads-up on the sonic direction of her sophomore effort, Tinashe talks going EDM for her next project, dishes on rumors she’ll be featured on Janet Jackson‘s comeback album, and more.

Read it all below:

Tinashe on Janet Jackson Collaboration:

“[Not true], but I’m 100 percent ready and waiting.”

“With [album #2], I have a very much clearer direction going into it of what I wanted as opposed to just shooting darts at the wall”

With Dr. Luke, I’ve actually been in the studio with him for five days total and we’ve made a handful of records,” she says. “With the second album, you always want to push it forward and I think that that one thing I was looking for from him was those big hooks, those super catchy, huge, smash hooks while still integrating that into what I do.”

“[With album #2] I’d like to play with some more tempos, to not have it all be in the mid-tempo range even though a lot of my music is.”

“…the fastest song I’ve kind of ever really put out is ‘2 On,’ which is really only kind of like an upper/mid, 95-beat jam. I’m not really interested in doing like, down-the-middle EDM songs, but I’d like to figure out how to do that uptempo. I’m definitely trying to make songs that are hooky enough to cross over.”

“I need to get my No. 1,” she says with determination. “I am so impatient that I’m already thinking so far in the future. In my head we’re in 2016 and I’m winning my Grammy for this next album that’s already come out.”

Reporting she’s already 8 songs deep with Martin, who is currently celebrating his 20th chart-topper with Taylor Swift‘s ‘Bad Blood,’ we have to say we’re not mad at the crossover route the singer is heading with her next project!

I can’t wait! her last album slayed me and so did her mixtape Amethyst

    • maurice June 3, 2015

What exactly has your fave been slaying lately, other than the top 10,000 position in the UK with ‘PinkPrint’.

      • June 3, 2015

so what did that had to do with what queen said, do you people just get up everyday, and try to be the biggest sc-mbag ever.

  2. ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) June 3, 2015

I gotta be honest, I haven’t really listened to her music other than that one 2 step song that was played on the radio all the time. I don’t get the hype behind her based off that song but I’ll give her album a listen to see if I feel differently. Anyway, congrats and good luck

    • Mark111 June 3, 2015

That’s the thing, 2 On is the worst song on the album. She’s more deep than a hip hop beat with soft vocals on top. She’s a true artist imo. Give her album a listen on Spotify.

      • ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) June 3, 2015

Ok I definitely will then. Keep hearing good things about her..

  3. Mark111 June 3, 2015

So we’re getting another Jackie? We’ll see, but TinTin can write and go the mile with content. If this turns out great then it’ll show that they gave Ciara scraps for her album.

    • #TeamTinashe Stan June 3, 2015

Tinashe has already done pop music tho if you know about her early work.

      • Mark111 June 3, 2015

        That group crap?

    • #TeamTinashe Stan June 3, 2015

Yes that horrible group crap lol and also Watch Me Work, All Hands On Deck, and Dollar $igns.

  4. Slay_Hive June 3, 2015

After listening to her first album, it is clear that she needs more pop up tempos and urban 2 on-esque type tracks if she ever expects to crossover, sell decently and have longevity. Just don’t abandon her true self. I don’t really see it for her tho.????

    • Mark111 June 3, 2015

OC, all the pest listen to is their rouch queen. The reason you guys get sh1tted on in these posts.

      • Slay_Hive June 3, 2015

How did I know you were going to reply? I listen to several artists and love different genres as well. I just don’t really care for this b****. She is mediocre at best and her pen game is not even that hot. Maybe that’s why she sold 17k and only has one semi-hit??????????????
        .
Lastly what kind of “straight” man listens to Tinashe, Rihanna, aaliyah and Mariah and go back and forth with queens on a blog, throwing weak shade? An undercover feminine FAAG! You’re only foolin yourself Ma’m. You stay losing and getting clockedt Ms. Markeisha. Now run along, d***** your musty loose stank box asshole and prepare for the next big diick t*****.????????

      • Mark111 June 3, 2015

If you had of worried about your hairline instead of my sexuallty, maybe you would still have it. BTW, I don’t listen to MC albums and my music is more than just R&B. My favorite band has the #1 album in the US right now. 🙂

      • Slay_Hive June 3, 2015

I’m not worried about your sexuality. Its just completely clockable on this blog. I have no problems with you taking t***** diick on the low. Do you hun!
        .
You just named seven Mariah songs that you like about a week ago and claimed to be a fan. Quit lying girl and no one cares about your “taste” in music. I didn’t ask!

  5. Barb-wire June 3, 2015

That’s not a bad idea Tinashe, those uptempo songs will enter in the BB100 but make sure you don’t lose the “Aquarius” originality and go pop.

  6. Jhené Aiko Stan June 3, 2015

I’m glad she’s staying away from generic EDM, it won’t suit her. I can also appreciate and respect that she is clearly stating she’s making music for the charts. Nothing worse then artist who do so but then try to give their music depth as if it’s only purpose wasn’t to get played on radio. That be said, 2 On is her most radio friendly song and it’s also her worse song to date. Im expecting much from a more up-tempo sound but we’ll see. I think she’s a niche artist but who knows, maybe I’m wrong.

  7. Rated R June 3, 2015

Oh Lord . Tinashe Tread Lightly, this is risqué . I get the crossover part and wanting to expand your audience but do not forget that you are a R&B/Hip-Hop artist and there is a minimum of Pop songs that can come from you . Pick the right one meaning the one that has that R&B undertone but has That Pop spirit and not the one the tosses the artistry out the window and your singing about lollipops and generic topics with a generic , fist pump-let’s go to the dance-floor type beat . This can either make you or break you . I would like to see her work with Rico-Love for like a “Motviation meets Sweet Dreams” , Danja , Timbaland or even drakes producer 40 ex. JoJo Demonstrate that can give her that next level urban sound , pop delight all wrapped in content . The wrong move as seen by Ciara can really mess up your career if you go too pop . The theme should be content , content , content! And the rest will follow , I do not want another ‘Jackie’ Album (no shade – just referencing the producers mentioned and how easily it can be to create the same material and sound) Good Luck .

Love this comment very well put

  8. Quinton251 aka Lil Wayne Stan June 3, 2015

She’s very talented her first album, was pretty dope. All she needs is that one hot, to go to the big leagues.

  9. #TeamTinashe Stan June 3, 2015

@Slay_Hive stop it because we can ask Beyonce’s ghost writers about her pen game that her father paid to shut producers/writers.
Stop being negative boo boo. Understanding if you’re not a fan but why give advice if you don’t “see it?” does that even make sense? You can take yourself to the “Far Side Of The Moon” with your Elvis Pressedly lookin’ ass.

    HASHTAG: #BeCarefulBooBoo 😉

    • LethalWeapon June 3, 2015

Dead @ Elvis Pressedly looking a**
Uh oh drag ha Miss Kachingwe!

    • RihYonce June 3, 2015

Please stop it ! Beyoncé has input on everything she releases , writing your own music doesn’t make you better than other artist , what good is there writing your own songs if they all flop , you write with people to expand your ideas go beyond what’s just in your mind , so down try to down play her writing like she didn’t write the majority of DC’s biggest hits and got awards for it

  10. #TeamTinashe Stan June 3, 2015

Don’t follow the article as it isn’t all the way true. She already stated that she is still giving you her real self (Alt-R&B). 2 On and All Hands On Deck were great for her because she got the chance to do high tempo songs for the first time as she never had one. Can’t wait for TinaSlay Slay!!

    • BeyRihLiyah June 3, 2015

lmaooo calm down you act like this hoeee is so sophisticated and deep she basic as they come

  11. Lake Erie June 3, 2015

I was about to feel some kind of way if she got on a joint with Janet Jackson before Ciara.
But good luck to Tinashe, i only liked “pretend” from her, don’t care for 2 on at all unless I’m out kicking it and drinking.

    • Shady81 June 3, 2015

At this point I don’t think Janet’s even giving it a thought to working with Ciara, hell back in 2008 Ciara just stamped herself onto Janet’s feedback song with that god awful remix that Ciara did herself along with her producers I think If Janet picks someone it would be at her own choosing and how she feels about that artist and there music Janet had great pair ups and then there are those that are not so great due to being a victim of a fad and the forgettable, like I said Janet would pick whose right for her just because Ciara and Tinasha plug for a duet with Janet doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen and at yhis point Ciara’s already got her duet with Janet with that god awful feedback remix and come to find out she didn’t get permission from Janet herself or her people so that’s definitely out of the question, as for Tinasha will
wait and see how Janet feels.

      • Lake Erie June 3, 2015

Lol!! Yea, i didn’t like that remix either. But yes, I know on her interviews for this up and coming era (hopfully) they’re going to ask her about Ciara and Tinashe and I can’t wait to her hear response. I think I remember her saying my boo is very talented (CiCi). But you right. We shall see. 🙂

  12. Chillin June 3, 2015

Honestly she is just a carbon copy of Ciara in my eyes..granted she writes her own..her “image” is that of Ciara..but i guess there is room for more than one

  13. LC June 3, 2015

I’ve pretty much liked every song I’ve heard from Tinashe with the exception of The Stunners songs and 2 On. I don’t think she’ll go too pop because that would be too much like The Stunners but I’m glad there will be more uptempo catchy songs on the next album. She’s given us enough mid-tempos to last a lifetime and although those are typically my favorite songs from her, I want her to win and uptempo is the way to make that happen.

  14. Tranet Ghost whisper jackson June 3, 2015

SCREAMING at this rodent b**** talking about getting a number 1 song and winning a Grammy. She should remain humble. I thought she didn’t care about sales kiiii. She’s not going to won even in the urban categories. maybe a number one on the bubbling chart

  15. JS June 3, 2015

…I lowkey thought ya’ll work in the music industry….????????????

  16. RihYonce June 3, 2015

I loved Aquarius ! It was a great album it’s crazy because I couldn’t stand her only because of the “2 on” song until I listened to her album , can’t wait to hear what’s she has coming

  17. cruz June 3, 2015

This sounds terrible, she is so much better than that generic Dr. Luuke crap that sounds like everything else on radio. Stay in the R&B lane PLEASE – Aquarius was one of the best R&B records of the last few years!!

  18. bb August 27, 2015

I want u to get that nbr one too Tinashe but your label will never promote u like they do Miley bc u are mixed with black.
Hire Ant Demby, or Troy carter, or Alcia Keys new mgt team to help u cross over.
Doont foget to do a radio tour on top 40 and urban stations, and multiple TV performances in Europe , Canada, and US.
That’s why u need new mgt. U can get into arenas in Europe with John legends manager.
RCA will not help u crossover so foxus on mgt team wth resources to help.
Do more intl music festivals in Europe too like Lana Del Ray did.
