tgj-2015 bet award recipient

Exactly two weeks separate us from the 2015 BET Awards!

Airing live on June 28th, the 15th annual showing of Urban entertainment’s biggest night is set to be hosted by ‘black-ish’ stars Tracee Ellis Ross & Anthony Anderson and (to date) has seen Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, and Chris Brown announced among stars tapped to hit the stage.

But, per usual, BET is saving for last its announcement of who will be the recipient of the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award.  Already listing legendary acts like Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, Prince, and Lionel Richie among its honorees, the 2015 trophy has been shrouded in murmurs that pop queen Janet Jackson will be its designated awardee.  But, that hasn’t stopped fans of other music royals – Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige, King of R&B R. Kelly, or Queen of Rock N’ Soul Tina Turner – from vying and eyeing the prize.

Alas, with no official confirmation, we turn to you – That Grape Juice faithful – for your weigh in:

Who should be the recipient of the 2015 BET Lifetime Achievement Award?

&

Should the award ever go to a recipient posthumously?

MARIAH ALL DAY…… Her accomplishments are unmatched!

    • mike June 15, 2015

MARIAH AND JANET deserve this AWARD, no matter how the Stan’s try to discredit what MARIAH and JANETS ACCOMPLISHMENTS are…they are two of the biggest seeking artist in HISTORY; they are huge and deserve the praise

      • Viktoria June 15, 2015

Michael Jackson should get it posthumously
he deserves it more than anyone else after all.

    • danyboo June 15, 2015

Marian came out in the early 90s so I believe she still has a minute to go before she can gt a lifetime achievement award even though BET running out of people to give it to lol they gone start throwing rappers in there in a minute but I think Stevie Wonder deserves it his catalog is sick and he still can sell out a venue but on Tina Turner to me should get one only of its and ike and Tina type deal because that period of time was when she really appealed to black music until she became queen of england

      • Tonio June 15, 2015

Normally it goes to someone that has a long standing career so it would make sense to go to Aretha Franklin. Especially since it’s BET and most people would know a lot of her music.

      • Tonio June 15, 2015

        Smokey Robinson as well

  2. Slay_Hive June 14, 2015

    BEYONCE!!! Who else??!!

    • Royalkev June 15, 2015

      Ha! Gotta love U!

    • Jazz June 15, 2015

It’s way too early for that. She still got several years to go.

  3. Alex June 14, 2015

    Beyonce!!!!! ????????????????

  4. Mark111 June 14, 2015

    Janet! Jackson!

    • Royalkev June 15, 2015

      ^Basically!!!!!

  5. Kemar (@S_C_Jr on Twitter) June 14, 2015

MJ, Janet, Mariah, Aretha + Tina should’ve BEEN gotten honored. Not to knock the former honorees but these artists have REALLY made an indelible mark on music + deserve their recognition; not only from BET but everyone! Since Janet is coming back, this would be the perfect time to honor them. Next year(s), the other artists should get their credit.

  6. Slay_Hive June 14, 2015

I’m just joking before bitter Queen crew and their f** h*** get in their feelings.???????? I think Janet deserves to be recognized and she has an album coming soon. The perfect and exciting exposure!

  7. It’s Barbie B**** June 14, 2015

    Aretha>>all others

    • rest June 14, 2015

Right? she’s been in the game before most of the other people listed were even born, and can still out sing them too.

  8. jjsrb June 14, 2015

JANET of course. It’s her year.

    • juicy June 14, 2015

her year to flop.. can’t wait to drag her by her new nose..

      • jjsrb June 14, 2015

FORBES: Janet is already one of the most successful pop icons of all time in every sense, and her legacy is not riding on how well a later record performs. If she focuses on creating a well-crafted album that has integrity and meaning, instead of reaching for top ten hits and blockbuster sellers, she won’t be lambasted in the media as some other older pop stars are. It’s tough to be on top of the charts and all over radio after so many decades, but really great music knows no age, and can come from anywhere.

      • hotters June 14, 2015

she might be successful but the B**** can’t even sing, it’s sad when rihanna has more range then you… *sips hot coco*

      • TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

@hotters If you actually knew what the f*** you were talking about, that tea wouldn’t be burning that h***** bump on your lip. Janet actually does have more range than Rihanna.

      • mike June 15, 2015

Janet Jackson is music royalty to mention her in the same sentence with ANY OF THESE NEW CHICKS should be a crime

  9. #TeamTinashe Stan June 14, 2015

You guys could only think of three male artists lol.

The only three females I feel deserve tgis honor this year is: Sade, Mary J. Blige and Toni Braxton.

I’ve always been rooting for a Sade to get this honor for years now but would like to see Mary or Toni who I think people forgot that womans impact in music.

People are only saying Beyonce because they just stan right away when they see her name lol but….. NO to that. Too early y’all and I am tired.
Janet I would love it but idk….
Mariah needs to find her voice again. The King of R&B, R. Kelly would be fantastic!!!!

    • King z June 14, 2015

What other male black artists would u suggest?

    • TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

Don’t come for Mariah just bc I just bought a ticket on the Tinashe stan train. I’ll jump off, catch a taxi, and drag Tin Tin to the far side of the moon and back.

      • #TeamTinashe Stan June 15, 2015

Nobody forced you to join #TeamTinashe though….. but don’t get PRESSED on me, I don’t think Mariah should get it this year because after when all the singers pay tribute to her on stage and its her time to perform I don’t want to be nervous and disappointed like what happened at the Billboard awards all over again. When the time comes I want her to kill it! 😉

  10. Rihanna Lately June 14, 2015

Aretha Franklin should have been the first on honored IMO. Aretha or Janet for me.

    • rest June 14, 2015

      yass!

    • Royalkev June 15, 2015

Aretha’s where it all began! Although I honestly can’t understand people’s fascination with her (music/talent wise), I totally see where you’re coming from. I’m not being rude, but I always wonder if you had to be there to really “get it” and appreciate her. If I had to choose an artists from that era it would be Diana!

  11. Keri Qween June 14, 2015

Well we know the answer to this one hands down ????

  12. Cc June 14, 2015

Posthumous acts should be able to receive the award, especially when even years after they continue to have an effect on younger generations. From having tink heavily sample aaliyah’S one in a million to having countless people continue to cover Whitney’S songs in song competitions, the impact is still there. I couldn’t name an act that is currently deserving of the award since Whitney and Michael already have it, but that shouldn’t keep people from being honered, someting to keep their legacy. I would definitely give it to mariah though, she just has done so much for music. From popularizing the melisma to uniting hip hop and rnb like she has. Many artists would not have a career if not for her. Even now she gives us those joints like faded and dedicated that continue to prove that. #livinglegend

    • Cc June 14, 2015

Didn’t realize Michael doesn’t have that award. He’d be a good contender

    • TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

I LOVE Faded! My favs on that album are Heavenly, Supernatural, Camouflage (lyrically up to par with Close My Eyes), Cry., Dedicated, The Art of Letting Go, & Thirsty. She really surprised with the overall maturity of the album.

  13. PAT June 14, 2015

all of them are worthy but the timing for janet to be honored this year is right for multiple reasons

    • hotters June 14, 2015

they should honer her with the worst singing voice of all time and give this award to Mariah.

  14. E Young June 14, 2015

It’s very difficult to choose one artist, because each artist brought something different to the music industry and are all legends. If I had to choose one, It will R-Kelly. R-Kelly is a great respresentations of what upcoming artist inspire to be vocally. I’m a little biase, because I am a fan, but he venture off during opera, trapped in the closet series, writing songs, he’s a artist who still haves it. He did a tribute to himself last year awards and he murdered the stage. He brought himself back up from his stupid decision he made.Don’t get me wrong though, any artist from this list will be great for a lifetime achievement award. All these artist proved themselves for such an award!

    • Rihanna Lately June 14, 2015

Trapped In The Closet was really innovating.

  15. Dxndi June 14, 2015

    B R A N D Y !

Like wtf, BET!? 20 yrs in the game. Grammys, movies, sitcoms! Not to mention, this girl slays yall stages (Whitney tribute; hip hop awards) Chardonnay refreshed that tired ass The Game, Zoe Moon bout to drop, and she’s been killing Chicago recently, what more do u need?

    • Lake Erie June 14, 2015

I’m die hard Brandy fan but don’t put her in this. She’s made a hell of a mark but she’s not qualified for this award yet. I hope you’re joking. Brandy still has another 15 20 years to go before she slows down. But right now, she is still in her prime.

      • TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

No Brandy’s commercial prime ended during the Full Moon era, but she’s still done so much, that I don’t a tribute would be a bad idea. Maybe they could gather artists like Jazmine Sullivan, India Arie, Sevyn Streeter, Chris Brown, and etc for a miny (30 minutes) tribute. Like Brandy Tribute at 6:30 p.m. & Zoe Moon at 7:00 p.m. It could work.

    • Royalkev June 15, 2015

I think Bran should get special recognition for all that she’s done in the entertainment world. She’s like a modern day Vanessa Williams (doing music, film, Broadway and television). I think 2019/2020 would be an excellent year to honor her. To be fair, there’s a few that should get this really soon… Whitney, MJ, Janet, Sade, Diana, Aretha, Prince (if he wasn’t honored already) are a few legends that immediately come to mind).

      • Royalkev June 15, 2015

        ———————————————-

This is what happens when you get out of bed after hearing Janet news at 1am in the morning! Whitney already received this award (and what makes it worst is that I recall watching her get it). Smh. Apparently, so did Diana and Prince. So at least some names can be crossed off the list. Ok, I’m really up now!

      • coolness June 15, 2015

If Usher can get a BET Honor like he did this year, then Brandy is definitely eligible for something of that nature. Didn’t they debut just months apart from each other in 1994? That means they’ve been around more than 20 years. Her impact may not be so visible due to her not being as popular anymore, R&B’s commercial decline and the dwindling appearance of skilled vocalists in popular music but it’s definitely there. She’s actually influenced a lot of singers not only in the R&B genre but in Rock and Gospel too. I didn’t grow up on here but a few months ago, I really got into the meat of her discography and I’ve BEEN playing her albums on repeat since then. Truthfully is everything 🙂

  16. Rihanna Lately June 14, 2015

Mariah Carey white ass doesn’t deserve any honors from BET. Until she acts are age, award shows might start honoring her cocky work. out of all her discography maybe 3 albums stand out. Emancipation, E=MC, Butterfly or Memoirs.

    • Ariana Grande Is Music June 14, 2015

True, compared to Janet, Madonna & even Whitney her catalog isn’t that strong. Same will happen to Beyoncé when she’s being compared to Rihanna, Britney etc.

    • TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

Why are you following and listening to a woman who you claim to dislike so much?

  17. Rihanna Lately June 14, 2015

Etta James? Nina Simone? Brenda Fassie? Mahalia Jackson? EBT is whack

  18. Lake Erie June 14, 2015

Of course I want Janet Jackson but I also would like to Tina Turner get honored too.

  19. Ariana Grande Is Music June 14, 2015

Maybe they should honor Janet Jackson this exposure will be good for her.

  20. Devine June 14, 2015

Aretha’s gonna win it this year. how are you gonna skip the queen of soul for tranet?

    • z June 15, 2015

Excuse me you are so disrespectful, calling JANET tranet. really thats un called for, i think Aretha Franklin is talented and of course has been in the game longer than JANET. But Janet is the 2nd female artist with the most R&B #1’S with 16. she has sold over 160 MILLION RECORDS WORLDWIDE. 6 GRAMMY AWARDS, THE ARTIST WITH THE MOST BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS MALE OR FEMALE 33 WINS, THE MOST SOUL TRAIN AWARDS BY A FEMALE ARTIST 12 WINs, 12 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS, 10 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS INCLUDING THE FIRST TO BE HONORED MTV’S ICON AWARD, 10 BILLBOARD HOT 100 #1’S, 19 HOT DANCE/CLUB PLAY BILLBOARD #1’S 27 billboard hot 100 top ten hits 25, 25 top ten R&B HITS, 9 TOP 3 ALBUMS, 6 #1 ALBUMS, TOP SELLING ALBUM OF 1990 JANET JACKSON’S RHYTHM NATION 1814, TWO OF THE HIGHEST RECORDING CONTRACTS (TWICE) 1992 VIRGIN RECORDS 50-60 MILLION 1998 RENEWED VIRGIN RECORDS CONTRACT 80 MILLION. ALSO SHE STILL HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE HIGHEST GROSSING TOUR DEBUT IN HISTORY WITH THE RHYTHM NATION WORLD TOUR. THE FIRST FEMALE ARTIST TO DEBUT AN ALBUM AT #1, FIVE SOLD OUT WORLD TOURS, BEST SELLING ALBUMS CONTROL-15 MILLION, JANET JACKSON’S RHYTHM NATION 1814-20 MILLION, janet- 20 million etc. ARETHAS GREAT, but janet has accomplished more. PLUS JANETS EMBARKING ON A NEW WORLD TOUR #THEUNBREAKABLEWORLDTOUR AND THE NEW ALBUM WILL BE OUT IN THE FALL. SO I THINK JANET DESERVES IT.

  21. Ariana Grande Is Music June 14, 2015

  22. Feather Duster June 14, 2015

    Tina or Aretha

  23. MUSICHEAD June 14, 2015

While I would LOVE to see Brandy get this, they gotta give it to Janet Jackson first. She is the definition of an entertainer plus she has had #1 hits in the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s.

However, I do wanna see Brandy get a 10 minute performance segment like R . Kelly, MJB and Usher got to sing a medley of her hits. The girl has 13 top ten r&b radio/sales hits.Give her that stage!

    • Ariana Grande Is Music June 14, 2015

Omg brandy is the vocal bible & better be honored too. Her Never Say Never album is timeless.

    • Lake Erie June 14, 2015

      Too soon.

    • Royalkev June 15, 2015

I’m with you, it’s just a bit premature. One day though …

  24. Missy the 1 June 14, 2015

If they give this award to janet over aretha or tina or even mariah then people need to boycott bet for real

    • z June 15, 2015

WHY, 160 MILLION RECORDS SOLD WORLDWIDE, 6 GRAMMY AWARDS,THE MOST BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS IN HISTORY 33 WINS, THE MOST SOUL TRAIN MUSIC AWARDS BY ANY FEMALE ARTIST 12 WINS, 10 BILLBOARD HOT 100 #1’S SINGLES, 27 BILLBOARD HOT 100 TOP TENS, 25 R&B TOP TENS, 16 R&B #1’S,12 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS, 5 SOLD OUT WORLD TOURS, THE STILL HIGHEST GROSSING DEBUT WORLD TOUR IN HISTORY,6#1 ALBUMS ETC,ALSO SHES PREPARING FOR HER MUSIC COMEBACK #THEUNBREAKABLEWORLDTOUR #SOEXCITED #NEWALBUMINTHEFALL THE QUEEN OF POP & R&B J.A.N.E.T

    • Pu$$iePopstress June 14, 2015

i agree. but the sad part is..there aren’t enough female rappers to tribute her. they would have to get male rappers to chime in to do it.

not that anything’s wrong w/ that, but still.

the lineup: eve, iggy azalea, and honey cocaine?

nicki and foxy wouldn’t dare tribute her

      • The Rundown June 14, 2015

they could always get Jason, freddy Kruger, texas chainsaw to tribute her since she looks just like all of them these days

  28. Lake Erie June 14, 2015

Some of yal Delusional. Yal naming artist that’s still not done making their marks. I guess I’m the only one on here who really realizes how deep it is to get one of those awards. It’s more than just and award.
Smh, anyways. I’m rooting for Tina or Aretha..

  29. Timberlake=? June 14, 2015

Ok if you ladies can say Brandy, I say CRAIG DAVID or MYA LOL.

  30. TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

I’m going to say Janet, because Mariah was honored by BET in 2012, Aretha has had countless tributes, and etc. Toni & Sade would also be great choices, but Janet’s new album is coming right around the corner, so BET owes this exposure to the Pop Icon.

    • The Rundown June 14, 2015

more like she paid for the exposure..

      • TheElusiveLamb June 14, 2015

Your trolling is cute. If these artists and stans can get into your brain like a subconscious thought & pours like Neutrogena, you might want to seek help love.

  31. The Rundown June 14, 2015

    Rihanna!

  32. Mark111 June 14, 2015

I don’t care if others sold more, non of them influenced a whole gen (some are now icons in their own rights) as much as Janet. Look at the MTC Icon SP, how many of your faves were there, fresh, young and new? Janet had Usher(icon!), Nsync(Icons!) and others as an opening act, her opening acts are iconic! Aaliyah was influenced by her (Icon!), Beyonce stanned for her (icon!), J.Lo was her backup dnacer (icon!), Britney was influenced by her and artistically used her blueprint(icon!) and Ciara is influenced by her(…) and so on. Name another female ware her students are iconic in their own right? Gaga & Katy (Madonna), no. Grande and XXtina (MC), nope. Name one and I’ll sit down.

  33. ????Rozer (Natalie La Rose)???? June 14, 2015

Janet definitely deserves the award but certainly not before Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, or Tina Turner.

    • ????Rozer (Natalie La Rose)???? June 14, 2015

      Aretha too

  34. da realest June 14, 2015

    Janet Jackson

  35. peace June 14, 2015

Either Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson(for sure) or Janet Jackson. They’ve really done so much for the music/entertainment industry.

  36. Flippers June 15, 2015

    Sade,Mariah, or Janet ????

  37. @JanetCIARA_ June 15, 2015

    Bittch! CLEARLY JANET!!

  38. Royalkev June 15, 2015

Tbh, there’s so many deserving artists, but …

    Janet Damita Jo Jackson!

  39. Lewis Muiga Mugo June 15, 2015

I think janet deserves the award more than the others. Mariah , aretha, tina deserve it too

  40. MISHKA June 15, 2015

This special award should not be given to any entertainer under the age of 50.

Janet is 49 so she should be up next year after her massive tour. R Kelly, Mary J and Toni Braxton will have to wait.

They should give it to Stevie Wonder, and have Bey, Mary J, and Mariah sing “As”. Now that tribute will make the event worth watching for.

  41. Jesus Lil Brother June 15, 2015

If Anita Baker wins, Dawn should tribute her. Dawn’s voice would be perfect singing Body and Soul.

  42. You wanna love it right bettor like you do then my funky money June 15, 2015

Janet Jackson got the most votes more then those other Artists however tlc are close to Janet Jackson votes

  43. Sandra June 15, 2015

Michael Jackson should get it posthumously

    • Viktoria June 15, 2015

      Totally agree with you.

  44. MeIAmMarie June 15, 2015

Mariah Carey deserves this more than anyone else she is the greatest singer of all time 25 years in the game a trendsetter icon legend please celebrate her while she is still here May God bless her

  45. Sandra June 15, 2015

It’s a shame that Michael Jackson hasn’t already gotten it. Nobody deserves it more than him

  46. Saisha June 15, 2015

    Stevie. It’s about time.

  47. Ahzaria Greene June 15, 2015

In my opinion I think TLC deserves the award. They’re the best selling girl group of all time and have made new accomplishments over the past few years. They are only getting better. It might just be that I’m a TLC fan and I’m not stating that the others aren’t great I like them all. I just like TLC a lot more.

  48. rellz June 15, 2015

altho would love to see it go to mary mariah tlc r kelly even usher and beyonce in future none of them can recieve it before aretha

  49. Shady81 June 15, 2015

I’m suprised Aretha wasn’t the first BET Inductee and Tina the second both of these women pioneered music to the greatest it is today BET is definitely slipping but I also heard rumors that they contact a star before consideration and it’s up to that star to say if He/She wants to be honored or not and I also heard Tina Turner declined numerous of times to BET’s offer so it probably will go the same route for Aretha Franklin and Janet Jackson as well you never know.

  50. Stephy. June 15, 2015

DEAD @ TL-FLOP winning the poll. And, that “R******” stan still pressed over Mariah. Her discography SHITTS all overs Whitney’s & Janet’s. Sit down H**.

“Women Lie, Men lie NUMBERS DON’T LIE” – Jay Z
    .
    .
Vision Of Love ALONE influenced a whole generation of new vocalist. That CAN be seen in TODAYS artist. Including Beyonce! And, even RIHANNA praised Mariah on multiple occasions. Goodnight.

Oh, and MICHAEL THE KING JACKSON should’ve been honored at the first annual tbh… The man’s influence & accomplishments (especially on a GLOBAL scale) SHITTS all over EVERYONE on this list & that have been honored. Including Mariah… MJ is my first FAV, period. And, then Mariah. HE DESERVES IT!

    • ran June 17, 2015

I like Mariah but Janet and Whitney changed the game in other ways.

Janet put R&B on the map. New Jack Swing came from Control. RN1989 made R&B marketable to massive pop crowds which is way it became popular among large white crowds. She helped make videos one of the biggest promo tools for music. Her tours also made her rival that of Rock and Roll Legends.

Whitney helped put female vocalists back on the map when Pop and Rock was taking over. Tommy mirrored Mariah after Whitney.

  51. RihYonce June 15, 2015

Janet !!! Because it’s perfect timing and her tribute will be the most entertaining to watch , and her legendary tribute is way overdue she shouldn’t gotten recognition years ago & she is about to kick off her new era , but Tina Turner would be a great tribute as well

  52. Stephy. June 15, 2015

Stevie Wonder & Aretha should’ve been honored back in 2001 smh…

  53. Shady81 June 15, 2015

    1. Jimmy Hendrix
    2. Marvin Gaye

    21. Another left field one Hall & Oates
    22. Miki Howard
    23. Minnie Ripleton
    24. Donny Hathaway
    25. Miles Davis. Those are a few I think should also be considered for induction but hey this is BET and sometimes they just don’t think outside the box but only within.

Baby face would be great he has his own catalog of hits plus he’s produced some of the greatest hits from artist like TLC, Toni, Usher, Boyz II Men, Madonna and many many more

    • Legend B June 15, 2015

It seems like they forgot about some of the pioneers.

    • Carry On June 15, 2015

Good list, Kudos… but everybody forgot about poor ole Phyllis Hyman.

  54. ran June 15, 2015

I think the people that need to be honored

    1. L.T.D featuring Jeffery Osborne
    2. The Dells/ Chi-Lites /Four Tops
    3. The Platters

    • Shady81 June 15, 2015

Those artist you’ve named are great as well.

  55. SpeakTheTruth June 15, 2015

A lot of the older contestants should’ve been got honored, but I think it’s perfect timing for Janet to get honored since she’s coming back with a new album and tour.

    • Shady81 June 15, 2015

It shouldn’t be about album or a tour and it should never be based on that in itself I mean I love Janet just like her next stan but Janet getting in there before Aretha and Tina is unfair to the two women one of the many icons Janet herself look up to get in after her even Janet wouldn’t fall for that.

      • Stephy. June 15, 2015

Goodbye. Whitney got the first honor… They obviously don’t care. Janet should get it next, period.

  56. ANTMO June 15, 2015

It’s always someone random when it comes to the lifetime achievement awards might be Anita Baker, Sade, Dionne Warwrick, Janet, The Temptations, Natalie Cole who knows

    • Legend B June 15, 2015

Since u said that, im betting Anita Baker.

  57. Legend B June 15, 2015

Im torn between Janet and Queen Aretha. The latter should of been one of the first recipients but this would tie in good with Janet’s comeback. Hmmmm……

  58. Sandra June 15, 2015

Michael jackson must get it!!!!! Why didn’t BET give him when he was stil alive. It’s LONG overdue that he gets it

    • Shady81 June 15, 2015

Because BET is backwards as hell and Debra Lee along with Stephen Hill don’t know what the hell there doing. That’s why I miss the original president of BET and it’s company brand atleast BET was on point you had the great music shows like Video soul, that Jazz show they had, Midnight Love or grooves something like that etc.

  59. Branstan June 15, 2015

I honestly wouldn’t mind ANY of those options because I know my history and know and appreciate all of those legends and icons! Bieber l however I would love to see Janet receive this! People always try to forget her legacy. She has done so much for these females today! Mariah could easily take it. Or TLC! Mary J! Of course there all deserving but my vote Janet!

  60. Carry On June 15, 2015

Stevie Wonder, I heard those songs in my mother’s stomach. LOL

  61. preston June 15, 2015

So many are deserving. TLc is my fave, but considering Janet has been around longer and releasing new mucis- i’d choose her. Faith Evans- unsung award!

  62. Nikko June 16, 2015

    TLC hands down…..

  63. Tumi-Anne June 16, 2015

I’m a huge TLC fan, but ate you seriously gonna act like Toni Braxton doesnt deserve it?? Her voice is of the heavens, she’s a microphone beast. If Toni Braxton doesnt get honoured in America, South Africa will gladly do :-). I am putting my money on Toni B and TLC when it comes to live performances

  64. Michael June 17, 2015

Since im a big fan of female artists I would say Mariah for sure! Janet and Aretha of course deserve it as well.

  65. REALLY_BET June 17, 2015

Honoring Smokey Robinson again BET— you gave him the last BET WALK OF FAME back in 2004. Smokey is deserving of alot, but to redundantly bestow another BET honor on him???
How can Charlie Wilson receive The LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD before Lionel Richie or Smokey?

Their music dept. has no knowlege. Smokey is no longer relevant– I can imagine the tribute featuring NE-YO, The Weekend or Trey Songz. At least give the audience D’Angelo crooning CRUISIN… this show is gonna be wack .
NEXT YEAR JANET JACKSON- TINA TURNER- SADE OR ANITA BAKER FANS WILL BE WAITING…

Smokey’s last hit was 1987– CONTROL was still bumping….

  66. hfdsjh June 22, 2015

Brandy, Mariah, Janet, Usher, Nas, Jay Z

  67. Sandra Emanuel June 28, 2015

Mr. Smokey Robinson should receive the McDonald’s award. He is by far an icon our his era a.d of this era. I was in awh of his humbling, inspirational words spoken from his heart, and all the honor he gave to our Lord and Savior. For with God we can do all things. He truly is an artist that has stood the test, ran the race an is humbled by his own success and blessings. People, remember his words. New artist remember the respect, courageousness, his fight and his struggle, in order for you all to be were you are. God bless & keep you Mr. Smokey Robinson. And thank you for your contribution to our legacy.
